Wha... when did Goku retire? He died. (And kept training in heaven, either way). Krillin gohaned himself.

Krillin had a power level of 75,000 following Guru's power-up.

For a human like Tien, no amount of mountain training is going to reach that naturally.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

[up]x5 Actually Kuririn is called the strongest Earthling in the manga as well, in the Boo arc.

And the fact that Kuririn stopped training is irrelevant with the lead he had, which makes it easy to argue he's stronger even before Toriyama's comment.

There's nothing ridiculous about Toriyama's comment. It just means Ten's training didn't let him grow strong enough, and there's no rule that it WOULD have to be enough

[up][up][up] According to V-Jump, yes. I would argue there's absolutely no evidence of that in the story, but whatever. That's just 75'000. That Krillin has let go to rot.

That's.... what?

Oh so it's actually in the manga. It's still completely retarded, but I guess it's unarguable canon now.

There's something morbidly depressing about Dragonball. Train for ten years, doesn't matter, get a head pat form some green asshole's the important thing. Sometimes I wish this series had just ended at the 23rd Budokai.

Yamcha also said the Krillin was the strongest human on Earth. In the manga. In the Buu Saga.

Tien should really get with the times.

Training like Rocky won't make you stronger, ya gotta train like Drago.

Wow, there's no need to be that salty or throw around words like 'retarded'. You don't have to like it, but you have nothing to base your argument on except demands to rules that don't exist.

It's impossjble to dictate a minimum growth for Ten's training.

True, the only rules that have been broken here are the rules of good writing but... god, this is Dragonball, was I really expecting even the slightest bit of dignity there. This series has been doing that since Goku drank the Super Holy Water and just randomly powered up. Super Saiyan, potential unleashed, yadda yadda... it's really a big "what not to do" guide at times.

HAH

There are no rules for good writing.

And Ten being stronger has nothing to do with good writing

I don't see how it's (necessarily) bad writing that a huge difference in strength couldn't be overcome by training methods that had been stated to be ineffective at that point.

I don't even mind Tien being weak, I mind that hard work is displaced by Saiyan powers and old men just grabbing your head or doing a dance and suddenly becoming the strongest ever. There's just something... depressing about it.

While the power ups were often arbitrary, I don't think being inconsistent about it would have made things any better. We've gotten a glimpse of what that looks like in Super and it's not pretty.

[up]I mean, he really didn't amount to much either. It's one of the (many) BrokenAesops in Naruto that people bitterly rail against.

[up][up]Rock Lee was actually really goddamn strong. Like, he wasn't the strongest, and he got no fights after a while, but thanks to hard work and gumption he was consistently one of the strongest fighters among the rookies. I'd put him ahead of the rest of them aside from Naruto and Sasuke obviously (yeah, I'd put him above Sakura because she has zero answer to his speed). As for Might Guy... shit. He was Rock Lee, but older, and actually got fights. Really, really good fights.

Rock Lee was underused but it's not like his training counted for nothing.

[up] Super is just bullshit that doesn't bother giving even a cursory explanation. It's exactly the same sort of shit that happened in DBZ just without bothering to insult anyone's intelligence.

Honestly when you have no job, no hobbies, no family and no other commitments training isn't THAT hard especially when you forgo the much more difficult methods to train at your own pace

Rock Lee is still strong compared to a lot of the other protagonists. He just stopped getting fights after part 1.

That's one way of putting it.

There are plenty of strong guys in Naruto without any bloodline tricks at all. Heck, Aside from Hashirama most of the Hokage are that - Tobirama just developed a bunch of great techniques and had really good water control, Hiruzen had one really good summon and loads and loads of conventional techniques, Minato mastered one of the strongest techniques in the setting and developed another personally and Tsunade weaponized a medical technique to an absurd degree.

Rock Lee is impressive for where he is because by Naruto standards he's disabled, but you really don't need special bullshit powerups to be good in Naruto... it's just that certain characters do get them. Which sticks in my craw something fierce.

I don't think he counts as disabled. I doubt most people are particularly talented with chakra and such, he just decided to become a ninja despite all that. And while impressive and all, the message becomes a bit lost when he's not actually allowed to win any of the fights he's given, and then just stops getting fights.
