In Jiren's case I mean.
Helps that the few spoken lines in his very short appearance gives us a clear, simple, direct, & succinct characterization of him. He traveled from planets across the stars to help his teammates, did not kill the monster instead just capturing it, turning down the tournament for the very moral reason that winning would condemn countless innocent people to oblivion meanings its a loss either way, & when he accepted stated that if anything, anything were to happen in his universe he would drop everything immediately & head there at once meaning that even as great as Jiren's supposed grand wish is its second fiddle to the salvation of the innocent.
All this in less than 5 pages for in those few pages you understand everything about this character & more. A pure character establishing moment.
Indeed especially if some of their members are rich themselves & thus have no problem using their finances to support the PT's.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Sounds like a "simple" character...
Avionics.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Wonder how Toppo compares to Sidra now. Frieza could contain Sidra's energy of destruction, but couldn't stop Toppo's. Of course, Sidra had no idea how powerful Frieza was and just gave the assassin leader a tiny portion of his energy, whereas Toppo knows how strong Frieza is and would not be sandbagging.

That's the point really.
I mean DB is not exactly the franchise you got to for complex, multi-layered characters but they have to be distinct & generally interesting.
Jiren's inherent simplicity as an unambiguous hero is interesting when you realize he is the first morally righteous rival for Goku especially since his last rival is an assassin which makes for a fun comparison.
Though it should be noted I do love superheroes so I'm biased.

Tao can't really be seen as a rival...
He wasn't even a final boss...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Wasn't it though?
Especially since he thought he could block Toppo's destruction energy.
It occurs to me... Toppo continually says that he's made up his mind, and Frieza fails to stop the his destruction ball, even though he earlier stopped a similar (but smaller) attack from Sidra...who was continually shown to be indecisive as a GOD.
Fridge Brilliance about how you need resolve to be a God Of Destruction maybe?
One Strip! One Strip!I'm a little peeved at that. What was the point of Freeza being able to resist GOD-energy if the only other time it was going to matter, he fails horrendously?
I'd have preferred if he actually did resist it like before and then Toppo just bodychecks him. Same effect, but Freeza gets to back up his smacktalk.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Taopaipai may not have been the final boss but he was definitely the most dangerous asset the Red Ribbon army ever fielded. After fighting him Goku curbstomps the entire RR Headquarters with about zero difficulty.
"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"Freeza is the perfect heel, entertaining when winning, and absolutely spectacular when losing. Especially when he gets owned this hard.
I wonder if they going for an ending where Goku and Jiren are the only two left when the time runs out, and Universe 7 takes the win because Freeza is still on that ledge out cold and completely forgotten by everyone.
Would be funny, at least.
Alright. Finally watching the dub black arc.
I know that it was a bit of a bust in the end, but since I'm watching it with someone who's never watched it before, it's gonna be an interesting to see it all over again. Especially since it's the dub.
One Strip! One Strip!

In Jiren's case or Gladiator's?
That is oddly accurate for a character that only spoke for 3 pages. Good job, have a medal
