What is up with this comparison to Superman lately? I get the vibes that Jiren is the Superman of the DBZ verse but their characters are vastly different. As heroic Jiren is, he's still incredibly stoic while Clark is someone who's very friendly & tends to bring the best out of a person. Hell, that's probably why Toppo is leading the Pride Troopers instead of Jiren while Mr. Kent has at times lead the Justice League.
Because he's the still the Superman character.
Even if he's not exactly warm & nurturing he gives it his all to save people with the same devotion Supes has.
Also the comparisons has been going on for a while, as far back as when he was first revealed in the OP. I mean this isn't exactly the first time we considered a Superman VA to voice him.

What are you talking about? Are you trying to say that fighting random poachers on an island can't boost you up to a level at which you can trade blows with a God of Destruction?
Please.
Also, anyone else notice how Toppo suddenly has a six-pack now? Just thought that was interesting.

I'm enjoying it, really. Setting aside the question of where the power came from, it's been a delight to see 17 work. He has a cool design, a fighting style based on mobility and attrition that's not really seen amongst the other main cast, and his surly attitude contrasts nicely with that of the characters the show usually favours.
I still got money one one of his adopted kids being Uub.

I think they meant already existing non-saiya-jins...
Otherwise that wouldn't make much sense...

In this case the comparisons make more sense though.
Jiren is an alien superhero part of a hero team that while primarily sentai coincidentally reminds me of the Legion of Superheroes. He is the strongest member of his team with a brawler fight style & faux eye beams.
What really sells it is his ethos as Jiren is a man who values life above all else & deeply devotes himself to helping people exactly like Superman. His cold exterior you can easily attribute to this being a shonen & Japanese product who usually makes rivals brooding & silent guys.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's funny, it's almost as if it they're wanking Android 17 off to pander to some massive fanbase of his, but was he ever that popular?
Who would be offended if 17 was "only" SS 3 tier instead of freaking god tier?
I assume you're talking about manga Jiren, because none of that nuance exists in the anime unfortunately...

Maybe the manga will go past the anime and we'll get some more backstory for him. Still won't fix the anime itself, but oh well.

Imagine if 17 was with Goku and Vegeta when they fought Kid Buu. While Vegeta is getting pounded into the ground, 17 steps in and starts trading blows with Kid Buu. That's pretty crazy.

I'd say Tim Daly or George Newbern for Jiren, but since the guy barely
has a personalitytalks in the anime there's little point to that Actor Allusion. It's still an idea for Toppo, though.edited 28th Jan '18 12:53:28 AM by KnownUnknown
