@Soble Art aside, DBM just isn't that good. And the fact that it is based entirely on what ifs and past events doesn't make it feel like a continuation, as is the fact that it is entirely about the tournament instead of an arc based stiry. It definitely has more of a gaiden feel.

I kind of wanted 17 to be knocked off here, since it sounds from the spoilers that was basically what the situation where he gets knocked off is like anyway.

[up] I'm getting the feeling that 17 is going to be the sacrificial lamb to hype up whatever Toppo's new power up is.

What drags Super down is that it's technically an interquel to Z's epilogue, so things can only progress so far without changing the ending. GT at least takes place after Z's ending, which gives it much more room to do things.

I'll add on a third thing, which is kind of a pet peeve too; the change of timeslot. Unlike Z and GT, Super is explicitly airing Super in an early morning time slot targeting kids and you can really see it in it's pacing. I almost wonder if Goku's regression was done so severe, not just because Toriyama wanted to "course correct", but because they wanted to heighten Goku's Kid-Appeal Character status?

Maybe that also has something to do with why they've toned down the visible damage and blood so much.

That actually makes sense. Super is tame compared to its predecessor in terms of violence.

Well keep in mind GT came out in the 90s. Violence was a lot more loose back then.

On another note, anyone else amused by how we thought Dypso had the upperhand against Freeza, but the latter is all "Lol nope"

Not really. That's pretty much classic Frieza.

The bulk of the fight against him is him just Lol!Nope-ing everything. This ain't nothing new.

Heh yeah it was funny thought its looking like Dyspo has something up his sleeve next episode pushing Frieza to Golden mode.

Though man that's a sad thought, the idea that this show is purposely being dumbed down & declawed for kids. Damn what sad times we live in.

I mean, Dragonball was never really citizen Kane. It's always been a goofy, doofy show at heart, like a big shaggy friendly dog. The problem with Super isn't that it's a show for kids, because Dragonball's always been a show for kids, it's that it's a badly made show for kids.

It's not that Super became a kid's show, but the standards for kid's shows have changed in a way that hurts DB by not allowing it to keep the same tone and level of violence/bloodshed it had.

It's super jarring.

Indeed DB has always been a kids show but it is being made very differently now.

Things have changed & not for the better.

I mean the Star Wars cartoon's are for kids & they still manage to make em with some bite.

[up][up] Not that I'm defending Super, but I would put the Goku Black arc as having the darkest tone of any Dragonball arc period.

I don't know. The Goku Black arc isn't the first time the entire population of earth (children included) has been wiped out. I actually think the way Zamasu did it was quicker and cleaner than Super Buu's method (what with using single beams that blasted through the victims and likely left a lot of bodies behind).

Think he means general violence. I can count on my hand how much blood we've seen, less clothing damage, and hits don't have as much impact.

This is something the manga can get away with at least. There's glorious amounts of violence in the Super manga

The Black arc SHOULD have the darkest tone but no-one gives a shit within the story.

People gave more of a shit in Z in general such as the Buu Saga at the very least.

The only person who didn't give a fuck was Gotenks.

Also Zamasu's immortality is a good a example of the toned down violence. How every hit he gets shrouds his body in smoke is weird.

I just think this is all examples of bad writing as opposed to tuning it down for kids. The only way that's really happened is taking out all the blood, and that's definitely not Super's core problem by a long-shot.

[up][up][up] Or how Goku and Vegeta get stabbed multiple times and don't shed any blood.

Yeah, I should have specified that better. I think One Piece in particular is the prime of example of that to because I believe it had the same time slot during it's entire run so far, and you can definitely see the tonal change with censorship in the anime Post-Time Skip.

I got bored, so I made a poll about Dragon Ball Heroes.

What's your favorite crazy bullshit from that game?

Good lord, I had to google half of that to know what was what.

I still think the best one are the video game related ones.
