I have fingers crossed for an expansive roster. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 had the best character roster of any Dragon Ball game yet, but the regular Budokai titles were never impressive with their rosters.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.According to dragonballzkai.net and nerdacy.com:
- You can cancel special moves.
- There is dialogue during the fight and will have voice acting.
- Tenshinhan and other minor characters confirmed.
- Characters show facial expressions when striking an opponent or taking damage.
- Demo ended showing the new futuristic city with the new fighter wearing the Capsule Corp. jacket.
- The new fighter and new area is key to the story.
- Footage was very early alpha in-game gameplay.
- There will be destructible environments. Dimps is aiming for full destruction; basically what you would see in the TV shows.
- “Big” character roster that will feature new characters.
- There is one “Mysterious” character that is a combination of various other Dragon Ball characters.
- Players can traverse the levels. Free-roaming in very large spaces. You can be fighting on a platform, go in the air, and then fight underwater.
- Real-time facial animations. Characters express emotions when hurt, injured, etc.
- Real-time transformations! Yes, you can go super saiyan mid-game. This also means that there won’t be separate characters for normal and super saiyan.
- Game is built on the Havok engine and is “new-gen first”; but will be a cross-gen release.
- Releases 2015.

We already have that, his name is Cell.
Also, Fusions. And Super Buu. I get what they're trying to say here, but this isn't exactly new to the franchise.

Alright, time for some cynicism.
Okay so... KA ME HA ME-NOPE!
Which I will disapprove of if they use Kai's actors, or somehow botch Frieza and Cell's transformations, like they did back in the Budokai and (IIRC) Tenkiachi games as well.
The new Dragon Ball Z for PS 4 and Xbone, starring popular characters: like Yamcha. And Puar! And Krillin!
WOW, none of the other fighting games have ever done that before!
How destructible do objects need to be?
Well... shit... I can't criticize that. I've never seen those things in any previous DBZ video games.
Really. Is this really worth adding to the list of "Features"? Is the game going to be even 30 percent more "dragonball" because Goku squints when he gets hit? Or are we going to have more of that awkward, mid-fight dialogue from Tenkaichi 3 and Raging Blast 2?
Ugh... I'm pretty sure Tenkaichi 1 was the only that did that "Make transformations into separate characters" anyway.

I'm gald you at least warned us about cynicism you would have in your post.
There's always gotta be someone to rain on the parade and keep expectations low.
Can we expect more of the same from you as more information about Dragon Ball Xenoverse is released?

Neat.
In the 22nd Budokai. The Yamcha curse stopped being funny, now it's just...sad.
First tournament, he gets Roshi. Next fight, he does relatively well against invisible man, but gets his ass stomped by a mummy. 22nd Budokai, and Tien's up first. And the very next tournament he has to fight 'Kami.
It gets even worse in Z. How is that even possible
Oh well, at least Krillin is doing nicely. The fight between him and Chiaotzu was awesome, though having watched all of DB as a kid, I know this won't stick...

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018The game is by DIMPS? They've... they've come back? I didn't think... uh... buh...
CAME.
I think his worst moment is the Uranai Baba spot, actually. He at least has the Sokidan against God, and it's also funny with God's antics. Then it's just the Saibaimen, which happens after he beats it down and leads to Kuririn being awesome, Gero which introduces the energy sucking and creep factor of the Androids, and Boo who eats them all at once. But against the Mummy... there's just no point to it. We already know Goku is way stronger than him at that point, and he doesn't even have a real fight with Mummy, just one-shots him and belittles him (and by extension, Yamcha). Everyone that follows would be no fucking different if Yamcha had succeeded in knocking him off the edge and decided to retire there, leaving Devilman to Goku.

Enlighten me; which were the DB games DIMPS worked on before, and what makes them sperm worthy?
Good point there. Man...I almost feel bad for the poor guy. He was prone to being owned, since the very beginning. That's not even hyperbole, guy was no match for a Goku with a full stomach, though to be fair, no one in the first arc was.

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018![]()
I don't really like the Uranai Baba portion of the story. I felt like it mostly lacked tension due to how easily Goku was dominating the fights. The Red Ribbon stuff is like that too, but I can forgive it since fighting wasn't the priority there - adventure was.

I agree Krillin vs Chiaotzu was awesome. Yamcha did at least get one good moment there - he got his own theme song.
I've always wondered why that was in there, I guess it is becuse his voice actor is also a singer.

Budokai 1 - 3, Shin Budokai & Another Road, Burst Limit, Infinite World. They're the ones who really started making quality Dragon Ball games and actually helped the franchise revive itself in Japan.
That's a significant part of the problem I have with the pre-Daimao story. It's mostly just Goku walking all over people.
Kuririn vs Chaozu was the best part of the 22nd Budokai. Kuririn always got one of the best fight in each of the tournaments - even the 25th.

Yeah, Goku2stronk kinda gets old sometimes. The horribly one sided fights were still pretty funny, and fun to watch, though.
Funny how we see Dragon Ball's ridiculous power escalation from the very beginning. General Blue, the only villain who came closest to being a genuine threat to Goku in the RRA, is one shot by Tao. With his tongue. It's supposed to raise the stakes (I...Think?), but it's beautifully over-the-top, and Tao is relegated to joke duty once Goku climbs up and down a pillar for three days.
Speaking of Krillin, gotta love Dragon Ball's first "plot hole"; Krillin flinging boogers at Master Roshi, after winning a fight because he didn't have a nose.

Can't say much for the rest of the games, but I heard spectacular things about the Budokai series.
@Baba: The fights were redeemed for Goku Vs Gohan.
Question, for all of you; what are your favorite opening themes? Lately, I can't get "DRAGON SOUL" out of my freaking head.

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Dragon Ball's first plot hole happens way sooner than that. I mean, that's the second story arc for cripes' sake. Arguably the first chapter has one.
The Budokai are the most popular of Dimps' work, Shin Budokai / Another Road are PSP games in that style but with better gameplay (and original, terrible, stories) Burst Limit was their only PS360 gen game that was fun but lacking due to the transition and Infinite World is the last PS2 game that built off on Budokai 3 and is the BEST GAME EVAR.
Yeah, DIMPS have a pretty kickass record when it comes to Dragon Ball games, even the data carddass series, Dragon Ball Heroes, is pretty damn good.
Budokai 3 in opinion remains the best 2D Dragon Ball game ever. It has such a Street Fighter feel to it and the story mode has an insane amount of replay value to it.
The classic adventures of Dragon Ball didn't feature Goku effortlessly beating everybody, he actually got his ass kicked by a lot of people; Jackie Chun, General Blue, Mercenary Tao, King Piccolo (twice!) and even freakin Yajirobe.

Dragon Soul is incredibly catchy. But hands down the most addictive opening theme for anything Dragon Ball related has gotta be Ore wa Tokoton Tomaranai
. Every version of that song is awesome!

@Fire Shadow: Goku was more or less even with Jackie Chun. I concede to General Blue, though the sheer luck Goku has facing him makes up for it. As for Tao; his intro was awesome, but it's a shame he becomes such a joke, after Goku's three day training. I haven't reached "shit's gon get real" yet, so I can't say much about Piccolo, or Tien. However, pre-22nd Budokai, only a few fights were a true challenge.
But the fights still are entertaining, even when Goku be trouncing on bitches gets old. Everything's just so...Energetic.

"Curry killed the pussy hoping that I could kill the hate in you" - Curry, D. "TABOO | TA13OO." TA13OO, PH, 2018Honestly, Krillin puts in the best showing of any human in the series. From the moment he's first made rivals with Goku - who, as noted, spends the entire beginning parts of the series just trampling everybody - Krillin is consistently put up against people who far outclass him in terms of power and ability. Fighting Goku in the 22nd Budokai, fighting Nappa, fighting goddamn Frieza, etc.
And despite being so thoroughly outclassed in every fight he's in, he always puts in a damn good showing, and rarely actually loses - frequently holding the line until someone stronger can pick up the fight. Krillin is a beast, not by virtue of being stronger or more capable than others, but by pluck, determination, and stubborn refusal to take his curbstomp like a Yamcha and die when he should. He's the show's Action Survivor, to complement the Action Hero Saiyans.
Ironically, the three times he actually does die are pretty anticlimactic one-shot kills - with the exception of one instance where it happens offscreen so we don't know how it went down. If Krillin gets to throw a punch, shit is about to get real, and he's going to be walking away from it intact, regardless of what he's fighting.
