It even kind of sums up Zeno's supposed role in this arc, somewhat. :p They want to host a really fun tournament and they'll destroy everyone to make it happen.
(3) The idea of a clown whose job description is "bring balance to the universe by blowing shit up?" That scares me far more than pink spiky hair or golden abs, let me tell you.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I love clowns, and I will never understand how Monster Clown completely overtook Non-Ironic Clown as the general reception to the craft in the public consciousness. Maybe it's because I went to see one of the big circus's as a child, and the most impressive thing, to me, was the sheer athleticism and comedic timing involved in being a circus clown, what with the slapstick and all.
It is a shame that Monster Clown has become so pervasive.
I mean, I think someone is going to have to eventually start bringing back Non-Ironic Clown, for no other reasons than to counter the former trope.
Getting back on topic with Dragonball...I hope the wolf guys get a good showing even if they are going to be beaten. Like I said, animal characters who can fight at such a high level have been pretty much non-existent in the series, so it'd be cool to see.
One Strip! One Strip!I blame the internet.
Only half joking about that too. My guess is that people started using the internet to spread the existence of the Monster Clown trope around, and since they found it funny, they used it everywhere...until, as is often the case with things like that, it was everywhere, and usurped the idea it was supposed to be parodying, instead become the standard.
So as usual, humanity proves Why We Cant Have Nice Things.
One Strip! One Strip!Sad Clown is best Clown.
Creep Clown is goodbye.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I actually have plans to counteract the trend, in the form of a clown superhero. She's fun, strong, and funny. She's a master of monkey-style kung fu, and her superpower is that her lungs are filled with life energy, allowing her to inflate and bring to life giant balloon animals, which are about as strong as their Real Life counterparts. She can also blow on wounds to heal them. Her superhero identity and her day job of children's birthday clown are one and the same, and her true identity is not public knowledge.
I'm pretty sure that general perception of clowns is not Monster Clown, but rather, it's more of an internet thing. Or a USA thing.
Well, in Argentina at least, clowns are seen as, well, guys trying to make you laugh.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI think we can blame Pennywise for at least some of that perception.
But I don't think it's just a USA thing. One backstory in Mobile Fighter G Gundam revolved around killer clowns.
@Soble Just because you don't understand the fascination, doesn't mean it's wrong. They're new fighters, of course people are fascinated.
Anyway, Goku was fighting him in base on the intro, doesn't necessarily mean that will be the case on the show proper.
Plus, Buu and Gohan need to win their respective fights. Goku winning his fight wouldn't mean much if Gohan and Buu lose theirs.

But clowns. And evil steroid Super Saiyan chicks. And evil space demons! The wolf guys might be one of the least bizarre things about this tournament!
20 credits says that Goku beats Jon Talbain in base, Vegeta probably beats the opera singer in Super Saiyan 1. and that Goku unlocks Super Saiyan Gear Segundo during his fight with Bug Man. Exactly like the intro.
And when all three occur exactly as prophesied you shall name your firstborn child Soble, boy or girl, I don't care.
I mean, the show's had 70 episodes to convince us otherwise. I stopped being an optimist when Big O didn't get a third season while Sword Art is still going. Liking anime at all is just a slow, painful transformation into being a cynic.
Not that I don't imagine the other fighters are going to get some cool moments - lest Krillin's training episode and the appearance of Androids 17 and 18 be completely for naught. But I expect Tien, Krillin, or Buu to get disqualified for some ridiculous thing like "no bald fighters" or "no head-tentacles allowed."

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I like how he said "budget doesn't matter" and then actually pointed out the reasons why it does matter.
You know, since the budget determines what equipment your teams have, what companies you outsource to, who you hire, how many teams you can put on rotation so everyone has more time to work on what they need to work, and lots of stuff like that. They even said it themselves: The better animators cost more money to hire.
But it seems to me that they're thinking of budget in terms of episode to episode, when I'm thinking of budget as in the budget for the whole production. You know, the budget that itself gets spread into the budget for each episode, which in turn determines who works on what, how much they have to work with and how many people are working on each thing.
I agree on the point about their schedule being shit and lacking preproduction, though. They should've been months ahead when they started - they knew it was going to be a long runner.
Also, they both agree that the fight between Vegetto and Zamasu was awesome... honestly, it's just not that good. I wouldn't even go as far as calling it 'good'. Sure it has fluid animation, but this isn't a dance sequence - this is a fight, I need some fucking impact.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariYou're expecting too much. I mean, it'd be nice, but I doubt it. Buu and Gohan are there to fill slots, and will do what the author wants them to do.
I admit, I'm hoping that Toriyama subverts our expectations in a good way this time and actually does have other characters besides Goku win their fights (I mean, he doesn't really have much choice), but that's not really his thing.
If Goku loses, it'll be to create tension because he's not there to save the day and make it more dramatic when he arrives in the nick of time right when everyone else has been beaten to within an inch of their lives...or are already dead. And almost everyone on that team has died at least once (Fat Buu is the only exception).
One Strip! One Strip! It's more depressing if you're a Yamcha fan.
At least the others were considered worthy of fighting. They chose Roshi over him...likely because they knew he'd fight the strongest possible opponent in the semi finals and get stomped like he always does.
One Strip! One Strip!

........which actually makes them a whole scarier, actually.
DAMMIT MARK, STOP HITTING HELPY!!
