I'll call her Colly. I'm following the same pun as Nappa/Cabba, so Broly/Colly.

I'm going for more of a Vegeta/Tarble approach.

Meh, Cabba is named after the same pun as Nappa, and Vegeta and Tarble share the same pun. So, i'm calling her Colly until we got a name.

yeah I can see this going the way of that 'female' demon in YYH that was a cross-dressing male, but I doubt that is the case because if they are male why make them Broli-but-not-Broli?

I wouldn't be surprised, given how often "powerful villain that appears to be a woman, but turns out to be a dude" is definitely a thing in shounen, if less common now (I think...).

Although, going by what tiny glimpses we see of her demeanor, I think it looks more like they're going for the old "waifish, sympathetic female character who loses control and has a Superpowered Evil Side" bit instead.

I was not expecting to see Frost back. My guess is he puts on the full smugness over not getting punished for his actions, and then gets killed early into the arc to show it's not the same ballgame any more.

I wasn't thinking like Launch, per se. More the idea of introducing a female villain or adversary by establishing that normally the character is a sweet, innocent girl who fits more traditional gender roles, but who can't control their change into something monstrous and dangerous that becomes a threat. The result is kind of like a werewolf, thematically, through not quite the same exact thing. Expect scenes like her begging her opponent to stop before she can't hold herself back any more.

Admittedly, it's a trope more popular in the West than in the East (especially in the Silver Age of Superheroes, where it feels like half the female supervillains were basically evil split personalities), but I've seen it in anime and Japan-centric video games from time to time.

Except Launch is entirely played for humor and is in no way a serious adversary for anybody, nor is her transformation played for anything except the gag it produces. Good! Launch is barely a character at all.

What I'm referring to is a pretty distinct set of character tropes - cynically, its kind of a "have your cake and eat it too" by having a female villain that can also be played in a more traditional sympathetic, "victim" role.

Man. I'm pretty Late to the Party. I was catching up first on some Wrestling, then on the second season of Voltron: Legendary Defender.

So to summarize:

  • Krillin is stil a little freak out by the dudes who killed him;

  • 18 calls him out on getting shot;

  • Roshi gets to show his masterly side again;

  • Baba apparently SMELLS fortunes.

And as for the preview of the Universe 6 arc: First female Super Saiyan, and she's Distaff Counterpart of Broly of all people. Can't wait to hear what everyone's favourite abridgers have to say about that especially considering the latest movie they just finished abridging.

I gotta say, while I'm not really a muscle guy on my women (despite know there are times where it makes complete sense), I rather like that this form makes her stand out. I mean, I never really believed we'd get a Female Super Saiyan, but not only do we have one but she's a Brawn Hilda as well.

I'm wondering if this was Toriyama's idea, or Toei's. On the one hand, as a female Broly Expy, her coming from Toei makes sense.

On the other hand...well, the Bird Mangaka is all about subverting our expectations, and none of us ever expected something like this now did we? Dragonball Minus shows that he is willing to take stuff from Toei and make it canon in it's own way (even before that, he canonized Bardock back in the Frieza saga).

I suppose we'll just wait and see if she shows up in the manga.

Female Super Saiyan...never thought I'd see the day.

I'd be highly amused if we got confirmation that Toriyama did, in fact, watch the anime and think a few of the idea there were worth using. Given how rarely writers give feedback on that thing in general.

In any case, as long as Fembroly is well written, we shouldn't have anything to complain about. The big problem with Broly wasn't just that his design was that of a big uncreative muscular Super Saiyan, but that there wasn't an effort made to at least make that interesting. No personality besides liking to hit things. Terrible backstory and reasoning for what he does. The whole thing is an excuse plot to have him swing his muscles around, which is always less exciting than it sounds on paper. It's the problem with a lot of the movie villains, even the ones who - conceptually - have the potential to be pretty interesting.

All I hope is the fact that ends up not being a complete broly clone and you know has an actual personality among other elements that make up an actual character.

So, among the gods of destruction we have:

  • A small dwarf, with a fat servant
  • Ganesha, with Gowasu, who is crying internally
  • Some Fox, with a really tall servant
  • Egyptian Girl (Best girl) and long hair angel
  • Robot
  • Pennywise, Harley Quinn, a smug looking kai, and a Sith lord.

My god Toriyama, what were you drinking?

Oh yeah, the gods are named after alcoholic drinks. One of them will be called "Vod", mark my words.

So...

What poor sap do you think she's gonna steam-roll?

I mean, it's hard to tell where she stands on the strength meter. Legendary Super Saiyan shouldn't be as powerful as Blue, but who knows.

I figure that the master of worfing and Prince of all Saiyans himself will have the honour of getting his face punched in first.tongue

Well, that'd actually be new for Dragonball (there have never been two female fighters who were close in power that were around during the same arc, because the villains or heroes of the next arc tend to be stronger then those who came before).

....Despite being a guy who's always enjoyed a good Designated Girl Fight (even when I find myself criticizing the predictability of it), I'm kinda hoping she fights someone besides 18.

To say nothing of the fact that if she's as much of a Broly Expy as she looks, then 18 would be utterly wrecked, and I doubt anyone wants to see that.
