The thing about the Yu Yu Hakusho manga is that it's one of the rare cases in which the anime is honestly better than the manga, in my opinion. It's got better pacing, it's got pretty good art and animation, it does justice to the characters and their struggles, and even though it IS censored somewhat, it's not to the extent you sometimes see in the transition from manga to anime.

So, it's one of those rare cases where I recommend watching the anime over reading the manga.

Shulgo, I hope that wasn't supposed to be a counter argument.

But seriously, after the manga ended, we got this little thing called Neko Majin, which eventually crossed over with Dragon Ball. Both Majin Buu and Goku were strong enough to defeat the titular Neko Majin while Vegeta fled, in full resignation he couldn't beat Neko Majiin. Not only that but Goku was with Uub, taking a break from training him to visit his family.

In my opinion, the gag manga had a better sense for what a Dragon Ball sequel would look like based on where the Buu arc and epilogue left us than any would be Dragon Ball sequel actually released, more than Dragon Ball Online even.

Negima's Tournament Arc was easily the best. So many cool fights, a lot of straight up upsets, behind the scenes stuff, funny combat commentators and a final fight that was just awesome.

I'd agree on the whole to preferring the YYH anime to the manga (though I adore both), with the big exception of the way they handled Keiko and omitted Yusuke's mom. The only time I ever approach that with Dragon Ball (not counting Super) is with the Buu Saga.

As for the Dark Tournament, the things I think Super is best served adopting for the upcoming tournament is the well-implemented dual-narratives and subplots, and the way the teams could agree on entirely new rules before (or even during) the fight. Both of which would do wonders for keeping the plot both moving well and entertaining.

Though also plotwise my idea of "what's the best/worst punch to the gut move they could pull on us" for the Krillin family involves someone from another universe being a dude that does machines, and essentially pulls a version of the Dr. Ichigaki plot on 17 and 18.

[up] I may not make a lot of friends when I say this but I didn't like the tournament arc of YYH although I will admit that some of the fights and character arcs were okay. The Dragon Ball anime spoiled on the adventures of the heroes as opposed to the tournaments of early Dragon Ball where things weren't as serious and "edgy". YYH is similar in that I prefer the early adventure arcs and the Sensui arc as opposed to the tournament arc and I admit that I considered the tournament was a waste of time. With that out of the way, I don't see Dragon Ball tournament as dark as the Dark Tournament although they were tense even if it was silly and lighthearted.

Dragon Ball hasn't had a proper tournament since Goku won one, which shouldn't be that surprising, in hindsight. The one they had after that was interrupted by Babadi, the one after that was cut short when Goku flew off and the Universe Six challenge was more a dual gauntlet invitational in the same vein as Fortune Teller Baba's. So yes, I'd say a proper tournament is welcome.

What bugs me, surprisingly, is why Goku is irrigating his farm with what is basically a water tower. That would suggest he's producing enough crops for a whole town, and if he is, then he should be rich, or at least self sufficient enough not to be worrying about money. He could feed his family before the farm too, so saiyan appetite isn't the issue either.

And how is walking around with 300 tons of water on your back not equivalent to at least some of his training routine? I get that he'd have to take if off to do sit ups and such but it seems like it'd be a nice warmup.

I hope U6 King Vegeta is on the U6 team, and I'm curious if Frost will also be on the U6 team, considering how he's a wanted fugitive now.

You don't want King Vegeta to be on U6's team.

You want Raditz to be on U6's team. (To be fair, there's enough open slots that both could join the U6 team.)

There aren't any people who are shared between U6 and U7, so I seriously doubt we'll see Raditz. I'm only expecting King Vegeta because there's already series precedent for multiple people named Vegeta. Though maybe the Saiyan King Cabba mentioned will be named something else.

Masako forgot a very important reason why Goku isn't good at math or literacy or any of the standard 'academic' fields.

It's not because he's dumb, it's because he is uneducated. When actually receiving education, he picks it up pretty quickly, because Goku is in actuality a fairly smart individual.

The problem is not his brain, the problem is that nobody's feeding it.

[up]Because I'm 100% sure that his grandpa taught him what Kissing was. For sure.

I really see no reason for Roshi to teach him that either - Roshi never tried to 'pass on' his perverted nature at all.

Yeah, but I had find it hard to believe he never learned. I mean, with Chi-Chi as his wife, there's no way he wouldn't have found out at some point. It's literally one of the first things you do when you get married.

The fact that it's in both the Super anime and manga means that it's in Toriyama's notes, which means he wrote it in, and that really bothers me.

And now you're thinking of your customs, and acting as if Goku and Chichi would act the same way as you would with your wife.

I'm fairly sure they never had a wedding, and Chichi herself was also a hermit living solely with a parent who likely would not have taught her how to kiss a boy.

In other words, it's 100% possible that Chichi didn't know what kissing was herself until it was way too late to change how they act towards each other.

There's no 'maybe' about it, they have different customs, and more importantly, Chichi was raised solely by her father and isolated herself. A father who, let me remind you, once used to slaughter everyone he came across with a massive axe because he thought everyone was out to steal his shit.

You're thinking from your perspective and forgetting that you're talking about a pair of hermits, raised by hermits, who live like hermits, and who are also insane by our standards.

It's just...

So they just skipped the kissing and went straight to sex?

I'm not gonna argue with you on it, and maybe you're right that I'm looking at it purely from my own perspective, but I think there's just a limit on those kind of things, hermits or not.

I think we need a second, third, fourth and.....I don't know, 250th opinion on the matter.

Oh, yes, for sure, because that village was just bursting with people that she totally interacted with, that's why she was so worldly and full of knowledge.

You can live in Tokyo, the most overcrowded city in the world, and still be a goddamned hermit. In fact, Japan has a genuine problem, so much so that they've given it a particular name, with people taking a hermit lifestyle.

Also, do we know if there's actually anyone that the Ox King actually rules over? Because I'm fairly sure that there's never been anything that implies that he has a Kingdom that he rules over.

Oh this.

It's like if mankind had somehow invented microwaves and ovens, but no one had ever heard of a campfire.

It would actually be hilarious if Chi-Chi and Goku just decided to read a book on how to procreate and Chi-Chi was like, "Welp," and Goku was like, "Welp." And then they both just got naked and did the deed. That had to have been the most awkward, impersonal act of love ever. I feel like this joke would work better if it was Bulma and Vegeta.

Anyway:

  • I feel like the idea of Goku never kissing his wife is going to be the Japanese equivalent of DC saying Aquaman can't get married. They'll retcon it when Super ends and gets replaced by something "after Super."
  • Chi-Chi never told Goku what a kiss is and he misconstrued it as something else, and after the first few awkward attempts Chi-Chi just never bothered with it.
  • wild mass guess The Goku who went to the future and told Vegeta that is actually an Android LMD planted by Gero as a backup plan. He has no memory of kissing Chi-Chi and he's programmed to be as much like Goku as possible, so he figured that's what Goku would say.
  • Oral fixation doesn't exist in the world of Dragonball.
