Yanno, I would say that this is something special or something like that, but when it comes down to it...
There's so many people who claim to be Dragon Ball experts that don't know the first thing about the series, a lot of whom have never actually read the manga and only watched the anime once, etc.
People who don't know shit about something talking about it as if they were experts isn't exactly uncommon, it's just more common with DBZ because it's so big.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariSSJ 4 Panku is terrifying, as is whatever the hell that Nuova Shenron fusion is.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Going off of that, I remember someone on this thread once asked why we were fans of Dragon Ball. I don't know who it was or entirely what I posted then but, I think I've got a more complete answer this time.
I was introduced to the manga and then to Dragon Ball GT: The Final Bout by a friend who had already gone through the Dragon Ball fad just as it was starting to catch on the the fifty states. Really, the early chapters can't truly be appreciated unless you've read A Journey To The West first and in 1996-7, I hadn't, but the manga kept my interest mainly because of how different it was. Dragon Ball was, if not my first, then close to my first Japanese comic. In some ways Goku came off as a generic "badass" to me, but at the same time his overwhelming ignorance and social awkwardness were unlike anything I had seen before, so that made up for it, as did the fact the manga wasn't pulling any punches with Blooma when I was used to seeing women usually get spared from slapstick.
Then 'Roshi\Kammesin training began, Kurinirin\Krillen, who would become my favorite character for a while, showed up, and slowly the story started getting better, or maybe just started dipping into familiar ground. I was used to the Wax On, Wax Off martial arts saga, but I became invested in the story, ever so slightly. Then it got even better when the Red Ribbons rolled out, then it topped itself with Piccolo, it was just a constant stream of awesome things happening, it became addictive...
...and that's also why I wasn't as in love with the anime, despite it covering pretty much the same material. Where the manga was was a ride that felt like it wasn't going to stop, until it abruptly did, the show felt like watching an underfed lion at the zoo, waiting for it to stop huffing at you and do something interesting. Interesting things still happened, in fact when I first caught it I thought the anime was awesome too, but then Namek happend and...well you know why it's called DragON Ball. The anime started with Raditz in the US, and was Piccolo training Gohan when I first watched it, ahead of where I was in the manga, but Goku was still fighting Freeza while I had seen Gohan dust off Cell. Then came GT. "Final Bout" made Super Saiyan Four seem so much cooler to the eyes of 9-10 year old than the show it debuted in did.
But, over the years I've come to appreciate the anime slightly more(mainly because of Yo Son Goku And His Friends Return and Battle Of Gods show how much mileage the series could get out of recycling the same premise twice in a row) and put the series as a whole in perspective. I already knew Superman but now I know more about him and American comics in general. I see more parallels, and differences, with Goku. I've read A Journey To The West and now get some of that early humor. I've read Doctor Slump, I've played Dragon Warrior\Quest, and see more how Toriyama's style has grown, I've seen the Terminator movies, what influenced Dragon Ball, what was parallel to it like Kinnikuman and what they in turn influenced. (I know my section of the theater thought "Dragon Ball" when we saw the climax of Matrix Revolutions). And, of course, several video games, mainly the "Budokai" series, kept my interest up over the years.
Buldogue's lawyerI guess it's a bit different for me in terms of tolerating the padding because I saw the anime first when I was really young.
I still remember getting together with my friends at around 6 PM, right after school, with chocolate milk and assorted biscuits on the house of the kid with the biggest TV and/or most comfortable room, every week, to watch the new episode coming out that week. We didn't care about the padding or how much it dragged on - to us it built tension and kept us on the edge of our seats. We were young, it's not like we had anything more important to do, and even the slow episodes would wind up being interesting because of the conversations that would pop up as a result of watching Dragon Ball but not really needing to pay our full attention to it at the time.
Man, I still remember when consoles had local coop, too. That was great. Shame so few games do it nowadays. Playing Quake 2 with four people at once was fun.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariSo they could get Masako, but they couldn't get Lani or Little Kuriboh.
I guess it's to be expected - Masako has proven to be ridiculously friendly towards these kinds of requests. He's in a lot of fanworks doing his Goku voice.

Randomness cares about padding...only that first time is when I'd ever sit through that slog.
I didn't know what padding was either...at the time, but everything happening was just extremely uninteresting to 8 yr. old Randomness.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Well, everyone at the main TFS studio are ridiculously busy now. They don't have time to use their voices for every request people make of them.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Hmh.
Frieza as Trump, Goku as Clinton.
Again. Hmh.
More importantly, how on Earth did Goku make it through the primary? Were Sosuke Aizen, Shinobu Sensui, and Shou Tucker his only opponents?

Exactly. Also, Little Kuriboh does a lot of wrestling vids right now too, so that's probably keeping him busy as well.
An infinite loop of sorts?

I'm not stupid, of course I realize they're busy.
However, even before they were super busy, Masako has always been much more likely to engage directly with the audience than every other member of TFS. To put it in perspective: Masako streaming dramatic readings of fanfiction to Lani streaming a game. Masako will frequently answer questions and greet people, Lani rarely does so.

Yeah, that list was terrible. And "not on Earth time", really?
