It'd basically be the first Tournament Arc - a gag series with a martial arts setting.

I mean, if you look at the Goku/Jackie Chun fight, that was mostly just a series of gags disguised as martial arts moves.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!

And it was, hands-down, one of the best fights in the entire franchise.

It was a great fight, but there are still some pretty good later contenders:

1) Goku vs King Piccolo;

2) Goku vs Tien 1;

3) Goku vs Tien 2

4) Goku vs Piccolo Jr;

5) Goku vs Vegeta 1;

.....and pretty much all the best fights are from Goku. That's kinda annoying really.

One Strip! One Strip!

Huh. Here I was considering that fight the lowpoint of that arc.

Really? What with the massive emphasis on strategic battling and control over the arena, combined with the two fighters being close enough in strength level and dynamically different in fighting style and abilities, it's my favorite fight in Super, surpassing Goku vs Hit, another stand-out brawl.

Not in my Top 10, but it's still one of the better fights in the series.

A little late on it, but reading the interview with Toyotaro (sp) on how Toriyama cares more about the jokes (and considers them more important) makes me wonder what Dragon Ball would have been like if he hadn't moved move more toward action.

Probably as crappy as the first couple of arcs were.

Well, that's not fair. He'd probably get better at it even keeping to that style.

You mean the first couple of arcs of Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z?

You mean the first couple arcs, as in the Hunt for the Dragon Balls, and the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai? You think THOSE two arcs, are CRAPPY?! I already knew you had shit taste regarding Super, but this just confirms that you have shit taste overall!

Whoa whoa whoa, you've got me all wrong! I guess it is my fault for being unclear, so I apologize.

I should have said few, because I was also thinking of the RRA arc.

That arc was also great! All three of the first arcs are better than the Great Saiyan Scuffle anyday, individually! The first few arcs were genuinely hilarious, beautifully drawn, emotionally gripping, and fantastically plotted! I love all arcs of Dragon Ball, but I do not love them equally! The portion fans know as Z doesn't even come close to the three Tournaments and the in-between sections, and is rapidly being overtaken by Super in quality!

Maybe...it's the Boo Majin saga that beats all. It'd be a surprising twist.

Dragon Ball doesn't really get good until Piccolo Daimao shows up, and doesn't get really good until Raditz. You could honestly skip everything before Raditz arrival and not miss much.

[up][up] Your inability to understand that people who have a different opinion than you aren't inherently wrong is disturbing.

It's not that their opinion isn't valid, it totally is, it's just that I really, really disagree. There are very few things that I am this passionate about, and people dismissing the first half of Dragon Ball is one of them.

Also, I have gone to great lengths to never state that anyone's opinion is invalid, no matter how much I may disagree with it, so I would appreciate you not talking like that about me. And yes, something can be objectively good or bad, regardless of opinion, it's why people say things like 'I don't like it, even if it's really well made' or 'I know it sucks, but it's a guilty pleasure'.

Fact is, I wasn't exposed to pre-Raditz Dragon Ball until way later in my life. Its been novel to go back and read it after the fact, but I only really have attachment to the Z portion of the show. Specifically the show.
