The problem with Black being future Zamasu is that he really shouldn't care about Goku. I doubt that present Zamasu walked up to him and said "Hey, there's this really powerful guy who beat you up in a different timeline. He's dead in this one though."
This song needs more love.Oh. Nevermind then, though that has a whole different set of issues in and of itself, notably the issue of why he went to that timeline in the first place.
The more I think about it, the more complicated this thing gets and it's bordering on stupid.
This song needs more love.I mean, the things we know:
Black knows who Goku is, knows who Vegeta is, seems to know about God ki and Super Saiyan Blue, and knows who the Zamasu that showed up at the end of the episode is. That Zamasu says he wanted the honour of killing Goku himself.
the Zamasu we know only knows who Goku is and up to his Super Saiyan 2 level of power.
There's a clear gap in knowledge here, which makes me think things are a little bit more complicated than we think.
I loved how they took inspiration from the manga when doing those scenes. They didn't just re-animate the Freeza arc frame-by-frame.
That's the thing. We don't know if the Zamasu that came down from the heavens is the same Zamasu we met previously. I mean, it might be. It might not. Time travel. Alternate universes. Who knows?
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!To be clear, Beerus and the Kais didn't ignore Frieza. The Kais are not allowed to directly interfere with mortals so they couldn't stop Frieza even if they wanted to, unless he was dumb enough to pick a fight with the Supreme Kais. And Beerus kept Frieza in line to a point, and even mused about killing him before he learned Frieza was long dead.
On the subject of Black and Zamasu, I doubt they are the same person even using different timelines. Again, Black knows all of Goku's techniques and he acts nothing like Zamasu outside they both hate humans. Black likes Goku and inspires to be like him in power, while Zamasu hates Goku's guts and calls him an upstart. Zamasu also never saw Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, he was overwhelmed just by Super Saiyan 2 Goku's power. Other than their similar ki and goals, there was nothing linking them as the same person.
I don't see why Zamasu would want to look like Goku and even call himself Goku. I don't see the point in it even if Black was somehow present or future Zamasu. It isn't like when Baby possessed Vegeta he went around calling himself Vegeta to fool people. And again, Black really doesn't act like Zamasu outside of hating mortals.
I just don't understand how Black knows so much about everyone. It's almost like he used to be a member of the supporting cast, or something.
At this rate, my terrible wild theory is that this is all some kind of elaborate ruse by Whis to teach Goku and Vegeta that lesson they didn't learn in RF. And that's how Black knows everything.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!As the Vegeta fanboy, I'm okay with this.
He didn't just get overpowered or anything. In fact, he got the upper hand when he got serious. He just got blindsided because by a Sauzer Blade.
Rationalization is the name of the game when Vegeta is your favorite character in fiction.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."He also had the bad luck of facing Black after Goku, which meant he was stronger. If Vegeta had faced him first back then, I think he'd have finished it when he had the chance instead of toying around to test him....though I might be giving him too much credit. When it comes to fighting Goku, Vegeta does tend to enjoy the battle too much himself if the Buu saga rematch and Copy Vegeta are anything to go by.
So Zamasu and Black are separate beings, but Black's existence and Zamasu's apparent immortality (of a different kind then the longevity he already has it seems) mean there are still a lot of mysteries. To say nothing of which Zamasu this even is since alternate timelines are in effect.
....Was it just me, or were the people rather chill about the dude who looks identical to Black going around? It seems Mai recognized him as the real Goku (which is weird since I assumed Trunks would have mentioned he died in the past timeline as well)
Well, more mysteries explained next week.
One Strip! One Strip!Mai would have remembered the original Goku, and she knew Trunks was going to the past. She also knows about the Dragonballs. She could easily put 2 and 2 together. So, I'm not surprised she's not surprised to see him.
But yeah, one would think the others would be just a bit more leery of Goku. Sure, he's with Trunks, but he also looks exactly like the guy who's been killing the world.

I mean, do we even know if this is the same Zamasu that Goku fought, or just an alternate timeline version of Zamasu?
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!
