In the original series? They were doing it because they were programmed to, after the fall of the Red Ribbon Army at the hands of Goku.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987"Well, the good news is that I was able to find the programming that compels 16 to kill Goku. The bad news is, I think the only part I was able to delete from that is 'Goku'."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Kinda of funny when you think about it:
Gero sealed 16 away because he couldn't fully control him (that was the reason right?), but 16 was still more than willing to kill Goku.
And yet, when the time came to do so, he put it off because there was a greater threat around.
At the same time, despite the fact that he could choose not to kill Goku, Bulma and her Dad still couldn't do anything to remove the part of his programming that made him want to kill Goku.
No one can make 16 do what they want except 16, and yet his free will seems to be limited.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm pretty new to the forums, and I know I'll get a lot of hate for asking this and changing the subject, but I noticed how it's only Chi-Chi who gets singled out by the fans for being an "abusive" mother towards Gohan (she was even listed on the Abusive Parents trope for "giving Gohan hard homework" and on the Mommy Issues trope) but parents who acted worse than her (Cell Saga Vegeta, Bardock, and Vegeta's father) get little to no criticism (fans even whitewash them).
Now I understand Chi-Chi was incredibly annoying and overprotective in the earlier seasons (and pretty selfish sometimes with the whole "education being important than saving the world" thing), but at least she always loved her sons and she learns her lesson and stops smothering Gohan in the Buu Saga and becomes a better person, but fans still think she's an irredeemable bitch despite all this (heck even Yamcha gets bashed and demonized in fanfics along with her, and he's a nice guy!)

Ymacha isn't basehed because he's a nice guy, Yamcha is bashed because he's yamcha.
Hell, the abridged series doesn't even bother giving him a fail count like krillen, because it wouldn't matter.
Watch SymphogearVegeta is a dick to some teenage douchebag who says he's his son from the future and got to be Super Saiyan before him, Bardock was a dad for all of five minutes, and King Vegeta is...a king.
My various fanfics.Well, yeah, but pre-Buu Saga Vegeta was still a douchebag. And I'm not quite sure what you're referring to with the second one.

That's what the OP said. That it was only Cell Saga Vegeta who was a shitty father. I was talking about Bardock in the last sentence.
I think the OP (post 4166) is saying that it's pretty unfair to bash and demonize only one parent for being imperfect, when other parents of the show are far from good as well, and I agree.

Bardock probably had the same thing happen to him. Probably thousands of Saiyans were sent to random planets as children to cut their teeth in the art of murder, so why would Bardock think there was anything wrong with it?

I know there are other times it's used but this is the only instance I remember off hand and he says "next dimension."
