18's new voice was underwhelming, but most of the new actors (Frieza especially) are improvements, and all the returning V As deliver better performances. The music's fantastic, and it moves along well enough. Thumbs up from me.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]The music is the biggest issue for me. Yamamoto's score was good but since it was plagiarized they put back in the original Japanese soundtrack, which to be frank sucks.
So the only real advantage Funimation has over Kai is, in my opinion, Faulconer's music. I guess 18's voice was better in Funi, but not by so much as to be a dealbreaker.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Oh man, this is funny to me
◊ because when I was like 4 I and saw the clothes I thought he was Goku, only to be disappointed.
Faulconer score is DBZ at its best. I recommend Kai.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."I know, right?
"Yaaay, it's Goku! He's here and he's...why does he have that scar? His hair's all wrong. That's not Goku? Oh, they called him Yamcha. Alright, well, he's probably just as cool—" *Yamcha explodes pointlessly* "..."
The American audience's first introduction to Yamcha was horrible disappointment followed by pathetic, anticlimactic death.

My first introduction to Yamcha was him getting scared away from a fight with Goku by a girl.
The Namek/Frieza Saga benefits the most from being Kai-ified. But call it nostalgia or whatever, I prefer Z Cell Saga to Kai Cell Saga.
Sorry Ms. Clinkenbeard, you are great as Erza and all, but I prefer Mc Coy Eighteen by a huge mile and nothing can compare with DBZ's Gohan going SSJ 2.
It's hilarious that Gohan is totally SSJ 2 at the end of the episode in both Z and Kai but the next ep he spends half of it still transforming. Still, it gave us this amazing scream and Gohan Angers.
Also the pansy-ass narration in Kai for this legendary moment irritates me. It's got nothing on Z.
A thought occurs to me.
My weakest memories are of the Cell Saga - I'm far more familiar with Saiyan, Frieza, and Buu - so if this is actually explicit in the story or outright contradicted, sorry about that, but the narrative in
got me thinking: Gohan's hidden power and Super Saiyan 2, is Super Saiyan 2 just the manifestation of Gohan's hidden power, now harnessed and focused? Was the reason it just sort of glitched in and out of existence until the battle with Cell because without achieving the level of Super Saiyan, Gohan was unable to control it, but once he transformed, he gained the inner focus needed to actually grasp it and bring it to the fore?

Then again, in the Buu series, he achieves the Mystic form, which is even stronger than Super Saiyan 3, the latter of which is stronger than 2, so it's seems that even then Gohan wasn't done digging the well of his hidden power.
One Strip! One Strip! If he had the same work ethic for training that his father and Vegeta did, he'd probably still be the strongest in the series.
Hell, at the end of the original series, he still was the strongest since Mystic was still more powerful then both Buu's, and Super Saiyan 3, he just couldn't get to the last fight at all.
One Strip! One Strip!I thought it was something to do with him being half-blooded somehow ramping up his Saiyan potential, and that was also why Trunks and Goten could go Super Saiyan at 7? I don't think it was just because Gohan is special for reasons. ...if it was, I have a new contender for most arbitrary and random power-ups, though that still doesn't quite trump Battle of the Gods.
Also, Saiga will correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure the Mystic power-up isn't unlocking his full potential, it's unlocking a power even greater than his potential; Mystic Gohan is more powerful than Gohan could ever have been alone.

He wasn't in the tournament at the end of the series...
Doesn't mean much. There was nothing in the distant finale to dispute that Gohan wasn't the strongest non-fused character in the series.
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92Oh Cru that picture is hilarious.
And Gohan's specialness isn't just for being a hybrid, like Goku and Vegeta aren't special for being Saiyans. They're special Saiyans, and he's a special hybrid. Although, Goten and Trunks' own potential didn't get explored because the series ended with Boo, and they could have just as much as Gohan, just without the ability to draw strength from anger. However, given that Gohan's hidden powers are still made a big deal of in the Boo arc when Goten and Trunks are around, I'm guessing that Gohan is meant to be special even for hybrids.
Oh, and the wording is unclear for Gohan's Ultimate form - old Kaioshin does say he'll draw out his powers beyond his limits, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll make Gohan stronger than he could ever be. If that was the case, where exactly does that power come from, and why would Gohan's hidden power be relevant if old Kaioshin was pulling a bunch of power out of nowhere?
I think it must refer to current limits - which is just their maximum power. Babidi says the same thing about Vegeta, he draws out Vegeta's hidden power "beyond his limits" when he does the whole Majin thing. I don't think Old Kaioshin's version is actually that different, just way more effective. Oh and there's also that whole all-your-power-in-base thing.
Is Gohan's Hidden Power relevant to the Old Kaioshin - ...now you have me doing that - power-up? I thought that plot point was abandoned when Gohan's Hidden Power wasted away to nothing in the seven years following the Cell Saga, and the only time I remember it being mentioned is Vegeta bitching about Gohan wasting all of his potential.

Potential doesn't just vanish. Gohan just wasn't training as hard as he should've been.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Even I don't care anymore.
And to be frank, I'm less a fan and a guy who's just sick of the same damn joke over and over again.
One Strip! One Strip! This is completely random but someone brought up how Vegeta killed Nappa in the DB Abridged thread and it reminded me of something.
I never had a problem with "being sent to teh next dimension." Because, really, that's all the afterlife in Dragon Ball really is. You die, you go to another dimension.
Well yeah, I don't think they would have tried that if there was no next dimension... though that would have been hilarious.
I think the problem is that it's just too obviously a censor. Though true, it doesn't make much sense for them to say that instead of dying/killing etc, because being sent to Otherworld is a consequence of being killed.
Nitpick: They don't say "next dimension". They say, "sent to another dimension", implying that the character is alive and well in a parallel universe somewhere.

Because voice actors changed and music had to be changed as well, among other things.
