Is he?
People don't care enough to mock Chiaotzu. An entire web video series has built a big aspect of it's popularity on relentlessly mocking Yamcha (though that's just one reason why it's great).
Also, when did they compare him to SSGSS Goku?
One Strip! One Strip!Listen.
I do like him, but we all know someone is gonna point out that Yamcha is Yamcha, and then deduct any points he might get.
This whole conversation is the equivalent of ice-skating uphill.
One Strip! One Strip!Hirano: So there’s obviously stronger and weaker ones depending on the characters. For example, it’d be quite odd if Yamcha were stronger than Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku so there are some balances we need to implement in that sort of way. Basically we don’t want players to not be able to win just because they’re choosing a character that they like, so we are balancing that out within a certain range where if you’re good at the game you can still beat other opponents.
TBH, Yamcha is the Hank Pym of Dragonball.
"But Yamcha never hit/abused Bulma!"
Tell that to fanfic writers!
Not really. Literally the only thing Yamcha's contributed to the plot was cutting off Goku's tail the first time he turned into an Oozaru on screen. After that, he did jack all. Even in his first appearance, he was getting his ass kicked by a weakened Goku, only got the upper hand when Goku got too hungry, and then lost when Bulma appeared.
Vegeta, meanwhile, nearly killed Goku on his own merits and only lost do a long string of really lucky breaks for the heroes before going on to basically becoming the protagonist for the Namek Saga where he contributed quite a bit.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Well yeah.
Toriyama liked Vegeta, realized he wanted to do more with him, and actively came up with a way to keep him in the story (via creating Frieza to replace him as the definitive big bad).
In contrast, he clearly had no plans for Yamcha after the first arc, and did nothing with him, nor did he care to do so.
Damn. I've started another Yamcha discussion. Why did I do that? They never go anywhere.
One Strip! One Strip!Vegeta being the Big Bad was in the Saiyan Saga. I'm talking about the plotline they used for him in the Namek Saga, which is a kind of plot Dragonball used often and which started with Yamcha. In both cases, They're utilized as once enemies of hazy morality who are after the same things the heroes are and who jump to co-protagonist once the actual threat of the storyline shows itself - the basic difference (beyond the Pilaf arc being far more condensed) is that Vegeta is proactive and antagonistic during this time while Yamcha decides to let the heroes do his dirty work and mostly just waits around occasionally popping in to help or hinder, and is dropped as protag immediately after - but Dragonball was that kind of show. An interesting distinction between Ball and Z is how while Z did demote scores of characters to extra, it also utilized a staple of characters who would have some kind of role in every arc while Ball would often drop everyone but Goku when a new arc started, and was more the story of Goku as he met people than about the people he met much. You could even make the case that that's how Ball balanced it's enormous cast.
His second big appearance in the World Tournament is also a concept Dragonball would go on to use often: there, Yamcha is introduced as Goku's strong old rival with a bit of hype for a rematch, before being beaten down by the main event of the storyline to show how So Last Season the prior shows of strength were, similar to Raditz and Piccolo or Vegeta in everything past the Saiyan Saga.
For the sake of nostalgia, I'd love it if Super had an adventure that contrived to have Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong, Puar and the Pilaf Gang as it's central characters. Not even an arc, bu just an episode at least.

They be not in the way too much, it's very fine.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. So, what do i think about Black Goku is: How in the hell they mistaken Black Goku as Goten?! He's a cool evil Big Bad, how can you mistaken him for that? Besides, i need to watch super More Often. Plus, what do you think about Trunks escaping into the present after Mai dies a Horrible Death?
Oh and hopefully, Goku will help Trunks out like he did in the past. ^^
Who's mistaking Blackarrot for Goten?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. He wouldn't look like that, Goten is scrawny child - Adult.
The files didn't document Carrot having another kid.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. And how exactly would that work with Goten not existing in the Bad Future timeline?

Well, since Goten isn't born in Future Trunks' Timeline, i'd say it did not work that well. Although i kept on corrected people that Black Goku is Not Goten and indeed it's Goku, but they won't even accept it. Some people do accept it.
Although, after the Future Trunks Arc, i would see Uub appear in Dragon Ball Super. ^^
Well, he changed his mind considering how important Vegeta is now.
And even then, he kept Vegeta around because he become popular (and made Frieza to replace him).
Though considering the whole thing with Chi-Chi, it wouldn't be the first time he kept around a character he didn't like (well, didn't like drawing in Chi-Chi's case).
One Strip! One Strip!See, knownunknown, I recognized that too. That's why I'm always confused by the drop Goku mentality, Dragon Ball has always been about Goku, except for that time it was about Highschool and superheroes, which lasted all of one volume. If you count Goku stepping down and then dying to stop Cell, then two volumes, out of 42 weren't Goku's, whoopdedoop.
No, I liked it when Goku would meet new characters, they'd hang around a bit and then be phased out for newer ones. Vegeta had his twenty three volumes, exactly as many as Piccolo Jr. The Prince of all saiyan's is well over due for his sidelining.
It's not a Dragon Ball vs Z thing. It's a Dragon Ball's original run thing vs every would be Dragon Ball sequel that decided Vegeta was so important all of the sudden...and to be fair, Dragon Ball Online made the Fat Majin Buu, Piccolo and Dende just as important as Vegeta in the grand scheme of things, so I don't fault it but GT, it kept Vegeta well surpassed, as he should have been, but didn't use the Fat Buu, barely used Uub, didn't introduce any new rivals and then just brought back Vegeta. Battle Of Gods arbitrarily has Vegeta power up stronger than Goku in a manner that's never worked for him before (Buu killed his whole family, where was his rage boost then?)
People have retroactively made Vegeta more important than he was in the original run. It wasn't just "Z" that dropped characters. Tao, Hermit Shen and Yajirobe are gone pretty quick despite still being alive and well. "Z" just stuck with Piccolo and Vegeta longer than Yamucha's 4, Kurinin's 11 and Tien's 6. I'm just hoping that Piccolo's 23 is just the sign of a longer trend that means Vegeta will got up to 35-47 and then finally go away. If we count Battle Of Gods, Revival Of F and Universe Six as "Volumes'', then he's only at 26, which means a lot more of him to endure but my theory isn't wrong, yet...
...though if we really do go 47 volumes worth of Goku-Vegeta material I will join the "drop Goku" camp. Hopefully everyone has Vegeta out of their system by 35.

Buldogue's lawyer

I like how Yamcha was used as the weaker character to compare to SSGSS Goku. Poor dude can't catch a break.
Or can he?
