He did briefly fight Tambourine, at least in the anime. It was a swift battle.
Also, Krillin was freaking out about Frieza's return during the Android Saga, much like he was in the Resurrection 'F' Saga. The different being is that by the time he saw Frieza in the Android Saga, Trunks had cut him to bits.
I also personally thought it was strange that Krillin had a muted reaction upon seeing Frieza in the movie and how Frieza didn't seem to care about Krillin despite him being the reason why Goku lost it. I liked that Super added their interaction in.

I'm a bit more perplexed regarding Mai's death. I'm not seeing why the character was there or featured so heavily in the OP if they were just going to die.
Either Future!Mai's prevelance was a Red Herring, or there's more to her future self than what we got.
I'm interested in all of the new elements in the OP. I'm also surprised the ED didn't change.

...and this was the first time Dr. Brief's cat actually made a sound, wow.
Isn't that just grand?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. He really isn't. It's not the first time Krillin dies. If Krillin was the reason Goku went Super Saiyan, Goku would've gone Super Saiyan way back when Krillin was killed the first time.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariKrillin was part of the reason.
- Freeza injures Piccolo. Goku is unhappy.
- Freeza straight up murders Krillin. Goku is even less happy.
- Freeza now threatens to kill Gohan, and Goku realizes there's nothing he can do.
- Step 4: Super Saiyan.
Gohan was then proverbial Wafer Thin Mint. The straw that broke the Camel's back, but Krillin (along with Piccolo) helped Goku get there.
Edit: You're also forgetting that Goku wasn't strong enough to go Super Saiyan back in the Piccolo saga.

One Strip! One Strip! There's nothing ever been said about needing a certain level of power before you can go Super Saiyan - we just kind of assume it does.
And yeah, Krillin was part of the reason, he just wasn't as all-important to Goku's transformation as people seem to assume he is.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariKrillin's death had the most focus of all three moments. Panel-by-panel:
Piccolo gets shot, he falls, he lands, Gohan says Piccolo's name, Gohan screams his name, Goku glares at Freeza.
Freeza sticks his hand out, Krillin floats in the air, he flies up, Goku yells his name, Goku begs Freeza to stop, Freeza laughs, Krillin yells for Goku, Krillin explodes, huge reaction panel of Goku looking at the explosion, reaction panel of Gohan, reaction panel of Freeza, bits of Krillin fall from the sky, Goku looks away, distraught.
Freeza asks if Gohan should go next.
Goku starts transforming.
Krillin's death BY FAR has more impact than either of the other two moments combined, just by virtue of how it's framed and how much time is devoted to it.

You're ingoring how the writer very clearly intended the scene to be portrayed, devoting a page and a half to Piccolo, mostly focusing of Gohan's reaction, 3 pages to Krillin, with heavy focus on Goku, and one panel on threatening Gohan, which nobody reacts to. Gohan getting threatened is so minor that it might as well not happened.
...
I'm baffled that this is even an argument. Lets just agree to disagree. I really don't think it's something that needs to be debated.
There were three factors in triggering the transformation to Super Saiyan. We'll leave it at that.
One Strip! One Strip! You know what? No, this is something that's been bothering me. Just counting the reaction shots makes it more than apparent what the level of importance of each moment was.
Piccolo's injury: Gohan had 2 reaction shots, Goku had 1.
Krillin's death: Gohan had 1 reaction shot, Goku had 4.
Gohan getting threatened: No-one reacted. No-one cared. It didn't matter.
What you see is not what the characters see. To us, Krillin's death was more meaningful than Freeza threatening to do the same to Gohan, so, naturally, that gets more panel time devoted to it and more of a big deal is made of it by the narrative.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI love how this is an argument when the result is the same regardless; Goku goes Super Saiyan and kicks Freeza's ass; does it really matter who was the trigger? I can just cop out and say it was Piccolo, Gohan, and Krillin and the result wouldn't change.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.

Krill-fish was also directly killed by Freezerator when he was impaled by him.
