Geez they're being super coy about the Goku/Broly fusion.

That will probably be explained in the game.

I noticed that the combat is 5-v-5 just like DBH. I wonder if that's intentional...

I hope this isn't some strategy game. What's the point of making your own Fusion character if you can't control them directly?

Just saying "It's the Goku and Vegeta show" is really cynical and kind of reductive. It may be true, kind of, but using it as an excuse is actually writing off the entire series from now on.

I don't really follow. It's not like the show couldn't change, but it has consistently been the Goku and Vegeta show for what we've seen so far. And taking a golden opportunity to branch out of it, then going out of their way to continue the trend instead does not bode well for the future.

I'm surprised Fire Shadow was mentioned since he's not really active any more. Wonder what happened to him.

Pfffft, I didn't think I'll see the day when people are intimidated by Saiga of all people. The world is truly vast

Someone named Monsund keeps PM-ing me. They wants to talk about the Toriyama interview where he says that Yamcha is still nervous around women (the one where Tori says that he works as a bodyguard), but they're too intimidated by Saiga, Tobias Drake, and Fire Shadow to bring it up.

Oh hey, it's Monsund! I remember him/her. S/He lurks here and likes to PM people about Yamcha's treatment in the series.

Monsund, buddy, it's okay to come out and start posting in the thread. I promise we don't bite. Well, not hard, anyway.

What's with Whis being all angelic and stuff?

But to wild mass guess a little more seriously, Vegeta asks what he is in either Battle of Gods or Super, I can't remember which, but I do remember Whis dodging the question.

He exists solely to serve and train beings 6-to-8 tiers weaker than him. Which is... delightfully nonsensical. King Kai trained Goku yeah, but the only proof we have of how strong King Kai is, is from the Bojack film.

And now we know his halo-neckring isn't just a fashion statement. Vados wears one too, its part of their design, seemingly indicating they're part of some upper echelon. Could the halo's be power limiters?

And then, what role can Whis and Vados possibly serve from this point on? Hit wants the undetectable box that Vados has, but does she have another one? Even if he did commit crimes against Gods of Destruction and their attendants, he'd be hunted for the rest of his life should he ever step foot out of it - and when/if he dies, they could find him in whatever equivalent Afterlife he ends up in. If Xenoverse counts, Beerus and Whis can even make their way into the Time Patrol headquarters. Whis and Vados render most objectives of any potential antagonists moot.

Maybe the cube is the only way to leave Universes 6 and 7, since these two are connected? Vados made it seem like a special ability, yet we know she and Whis can travel across dimensions, even if it takes some time - they can also go anywhere in the universe, even if isn't as fast as say Instant Transmission or that thing Supreme Kai does. The cube being the only way for anyone to leave interconnected universes would make sense.

King Kai was pretty much implied to be weaker than Goku from the moment Goku got off his planet, though.

Kaio-sama outright states that Nappa and Vegeta are more powerful than him when he starts training Goku. We may not have a precise battle power reading on him, but we know he's weaker than 4,000.

Alright, then there's precedent for Whis to train Beerus, but to be utterly subservient? That's baffling.

[up](x5) And that... was unexpected.

Minotia's got to be next. If not him, Frieza's pink destructo disk.

I wouldn't describe Whis as subservient. Tolerant, perhaps.

He doesn't obey Beerus. He humors him. The difference is aptly demonstrated in their interactions. When what they want conflicts, Whis wins. He does things like teasing Beerus about delicious foods when he has none for him without any fear of repercussions.

Whis only exercises his dominance in their relationship sparingly, but everything about the way he behaves communicates that dominance effectively. He's the only person in the universe with absolutely no fear of upsetting Beerus. Beerus can whine and gripe and moan at him until the cows come home about how they're not going fast enough or that Whis needs to finish eating so they can blow up the planet and go, but they go as fast as Whis intends them to and they leave when Whis is done.

I mean. I think of Whis as subservient. All the chores that he makes Vegeta and Goku do around Beerus's temple are ones that it seems Whis himself would normally be doing. He couldn't train them until the chores were done. Those chores are his job. In addition to keeping Beerus in line and doing things Beerus asks of him.

I can only assume the pink apron Vegeta wore was one of Whis's.

Whis doesn't actually say no to Beerus at any point. Nor does he threaten Beerus.

And, assuming the relationship between Beerus and Whis and the one between Vados and Champa are comparable, while Vados recognizes that she shouldn't be letting Champa be lazy like he is, when he tells her to blow up a planet for him she does it.

So. Whis's job seems to be to take care of Beerus's needs. Physical or mental. Having the temple be a mess is bad for Beerus so Whis cleans it. Sleeping in for too long is bad, so Whis wakes him up when he has to. Beerus likes those moons when he's not overtired or in a panic because of wasabi, and destroying them by accident would upset Beerus's sense of aesthetics, so Whis knocks Beerus out and/or rewinds time to make sure Beerus's favorite skygazing view looks alright.

Beerus's needs come before Beerus's wants, and one of Beerus's needs is to develop patience, so Whis doesn't always do what Beerus wants when Beerus wants it.

The comparison I can best think of would be the relationship between Alfred and Bruce Wayne after Bruce's parents died but before Bruce was an adult? Or maybe the relationship between Alfred and Bruce in general. Like. Whis is basically Beerus's butler.

The fact that Whis actively undermines what Beerus wants in favor of what he needs is exactly why I don't see it as subservience. He's "subservient" in the same way a parent is subservient to a child.

If Beerus needs to get up and Beerus says he wants to sleep longer, Whis makes Beerus get up. That's not subservience, that's caretaking.

It's still a relationship where Beerus is more important than Whis, but fair enough.

And, like. There are occasions where the secret service will ignore the President's wishes in the interest of insuring their safety. That sort of thing. So subservience is not absolute.

It's still the case that Whis rarely makes Beerus do anything. While sometimes Beerus makes Whis so things.

I think of a bit like the relationship between Batman and Alfred. Whis is Beerus caretaker and they usually do what the letter want, but Whis doesn't take any of his shit, has little regard for him, and won't hesitate to put his foot down if needed.
