Your patchy knowledge of Dragonball feels the same way I imagine.
Despite how little sense that makes.
One Strip! One Strip! That's true, but Black also tried to keep fighting him after learning the truth (and I believe he still tried to leave with the Dragonball as well).
If he'd given up right then and there (along with the Dragonball) maybe he'd have gotten away with his life.
One Strip! One Strip!Goku's actually nowhere near as reluctant to kill as the North American dubs painted him. During Dragon Ball, Goku probably didn't even know what the word 'Mercy' meant. Because he lived alone on top of a mountain you see... Okay, leaving that aside, Goku really didn't care all that much.
This actually continued even when he became an adult. He was the one who came up with the plan that killed Raditz. Hell, he only chose to spare Vegeta because he wanted to fight him again, not because he advocates mercy.
He also killed Yakon without a second doubt. When Freeza attacked him after Goku's Cruel Mercy, Goku actually tried to kill him, too. He failed, but it wasn't because he didn't make an honest attempt. Also, he killed King Cold and Freeza in Trunks' timeline.
If anything, Goku's pretty fucking brutal - he broke Nappa's spine, meaning Nappa would probably be paralyzed for the rest of his life.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariWell, this makes me wonder:
If Black had cut his losses, decided to give up fighting Goku, and work on restoring the Red Ribbon army in the background, instead of trying to continue the fight, would Goku have still killed him, or would he have spared him?
In most cases I would assume yes, as Goku is prone to falling for that type of thing, but this time it would be for real.
One Strip! One Strip! The Ginyus were basically no threat to Goku at any point, it's not hard to think he'd show them mercy because they'd be incredibly boring to fight.
Furthermore, he didn't really make an effort to stop Vegeta from killing them.
Goku does not care.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariNo, he didn't expect Vegeta to kill them. He was very clearly taken by surprise from him killing Recoome and Burter and chastised him for it. He did same thing when Vegeta killed Jeice.
Gok may not be Superman but saying he just doesn't care if his enemies die if they're no fun to fight is wrong. He might not hesitate when he thinks it needs to be done but that's not being as cold as you're making him out to be.

I remember someone writing a post about how Akira Toriyama originally wanted Goku to be an Anti-Hero. "Goku isn't a hero, he's just a guy who loves to fight." I think it was in that Death Battle video actually.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Um, no. He didn't stop him because he was surprised by him attacking defenseless opponents . That was very clear. He also very clearly did not approve of Vegeta's actions. Why are you arguing this?
Edit: And for the record, no Goku was not above Vegeta then. Without the Kaioken he was at 90,000 while Vegeta post senzu senkai was over 200,000.

Goku, in the first couple of chapters, before even meeting Oolong, killed a sapient talking fish (by punching it out of the water and dragging it around on dry land to eat), a sapient talking pterodactyl (by badassly ramping Bulma's motorcycle off a rock and breaking its neck with the Nyoi-bo), and a sapient talking bear bandit (by standing on his nose and punching him hard enough between the eyes to shatter his skull).
So, when did Pilaf, Shu, and Mai get turned into children?
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!Sometime between Battle of Gods and Majin Buu's defeat.
Huh. Now that you mention it, that seems awfully familiar. I wonder if that was intentional.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!It almost definitely was a Take That! at GT's nonexistence.
I am indifferent towards GT.
Acknowledges that it does indeed exist.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

Damn you, patchy knowledge of early Dragon Ball!
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone else
