There are quite a few more reasons that just those two but they're certainly a big part of it.

Just a very general breakdown of things. Obviously there's a lot more to it.

Modern-day Japan... does not have the healthiest culture. That's not to say that any place's cultures are without flaws, they aren't, it's just that Japan, currently, isn't even close to the top.

I learned recently that a former Governor of Tokyo Province was actually sued because he said, in public, that post-menopausal women should commit suicide because they contribute nothing to society. Granted, given that he did get sued that was probably extreme even for Japan.

That's just a terrible thing to say in general...regardless of culture.

Though, honestly, most of the worst DB sexism would appear to be an invention of the anime. In the manga, Bulma and 18 continue having roles until quite near the end, and as for Videl, she doesn't do much after the Tournament and we know little of her fate beyond that she eventually marries Gohan and has Pan; even so there's nothing in the manga itself to suggest she instantly became a housewife, and indeed some of the older filler has her take on the identity of Saiyagirl! Chichi is a housewife an all versions but even so the anime seriously ramps up her shrewishness.

So it's not just Toryiama, it's also Toei?

That makes sense.

Toei seems quite a bit more sexist to me.

Well considering they flanderized Roshi in the anime when he's not as much of a damn molester/rapist in the manga, I'd say Toei is much more sexist.

And now they're in charge of Super.

They are the ones who made Chi-chi more shrewish.

Ironic since they also did that post world tournament filler arc where (even if only briefly) she did actually do a bit of fighting... after Shuu and Mai, who barely qualify as opponents.

Anyway, here's a thought:

How many one on one fights has Goku won, with victory being considered killing the opponents?

Not many. In most cases, he leaves them incapacitated and someone else finishes them off, or something interrupts before he can really make the victory official.

Goku hasn't actually won that many fights, despite being one of the strongest guy around.

Well, he's actually won plenty of fights.

Just not according to your definition.

Well it's really more my brother's definition.

When I brought up Frieza he said it didn't count because Trunk's defeated him.

That being said, we've gone over how Goku didn't kill many enemies in Z compared to the original Dragon Ball.

He killed King Piccolo and some of his kids, but Goku was royally pissed off at the guy for killing Krillin, so I can't blame him for that. My knowledge of much of the original Dragon Ball is kinda hazy, though, so I can't remember who else he killed.

He didn't really kill anyone until after the Red Ribbon Army saga.

I'm pretty sure most of those guys died. He didn't kill any of them directly, besides Tao and Black.

Sometimes I wonder if he was really trying to kill them or just beat them up, and they died because back then, Goku didn't really know how to hold back (and didn't realize how weak they were).
