Yeah, I agree too, though Dragon Ball's action was the highlight.
I mean, the action was good, don't get me wrong. But even when the action wasn't as good, the characters were ultimately why the show was still worthwhile.
The show could have the best action in the world, but.
I mean, I'm more a fan of Dragon Ball than I am of Z.

~Rob runs in and steals all the moneys (yes, I spelled it that way on purpose)~
Gotta watch yer shit!!!!
Anyway, that thing that was said in the last post about Goku's Cell Blunder is something I've said myself: Goku, due to missing a lot of the shit Gohan went through (on account of being dead, crippled, lost in space, and then slowly dying) might not have realized that Gohan didn't actually enjoy fighting.
The only period of time they spent together barring the pre-Saiyan Saga time is 4 years (3 in real time, one in the room of time and spirit Hypertonic Lion Tamer). This clouded his judgement about how Gohan really felt about fighting, and he kinda projected himself onto him.
As for Gohan's arc in Super... I don't have a problem with Gohan giving up fighting. That's gravy to me. My issue is his becoming weaker, when there was a good in-universe excuse for him to remain at the level of power he was already at in the form of the Mystic Power-up.
Since Blu-per Saiyan is already more powerful, that solved the issue of making Goku and Vegeta top dogs again, so de-powering him wasn't really necessary at all.
And that's my two cents.

One Strip! One Strip!I'll also echo the sentiment that the characters are the best part, not the action.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Well played friend. Well played.
So here's a thought:
Vegeta lets himself be possessed by Babidi.....kind of... because the thing with getting through babidi's ship is taking too long and he wants to fight Goku while he has the time....
So why did he agree to one on one fights and Rock Paper Scissors and all that? I mean, if they'd all just fought together and blitzed the place, they'd have been done before dinner needed to be served?
Since he allowed things to go on like that, it's technically his own fault things were going slowly as well.
One Strip! One Strip!Ok. I can accept that.
When I think about it, it's kinda obvious.
I blame Arha.
One Strip! One Strip!

I like Gohan's arc.
I just.
It occurs to me that I ultimately want this series to be something it's not. There's the weird tension I've been noticing more and more.
Where this series sings is the characters. The action scenes are good and entertaining, and the villains are neat, but.
Ultimately I think being the shonen action series it is has become too constricting.
I mean, of course the humans can't do anything because it's shonen and powers have to escalate. Of course the girls can't do anything because it's shonen and girls have cooties.
And. What I like about this series is increasingly the characters. I want goofy slice of life shit. I want Videl to be a police detective instead of a housewife because it'd fit her personality better, and for her to have a buddy cop show with Krillin because it'd be funny.
I mean, maybe it's because DBS is still mostly recaps so far, but. For me the best parts have been the filler with Vegeta at the amusement park, Videl turning Super Saiyan, Hercule turning Super Saiyan, Goku grabbing his tractor, Goku with a cell phone, Vegeta cooking, Ginyu (and that's only by a technicality mind), and the stuff with Champa.
Like. So far the actual fight scenes have been ass. The action has been boring. In the case of Battle of Gods they took a good fun movie and made it dull and untolerable, and in the case of ROF. Like, I think I like DBS's version more than the original because of Ginyu. But.
I mean, yeah, Gohan's arc fits him, and I adore it, but the problem is that for dragon ball as a narrative going forward, he is entirely the wrong sort of character for it. That's the issue.
I agree with this review of the latest DBS ultimately.
Things are looking up, but.
Fingers crossed that the "find the super dragon balls" part will actually be watchable.
