"Technically beat Goku the very first time."

That is a bold faced lie. He ran away while Goku was still standing. The match was undecided, although I guess you could see him fleeing as running away.

And he didn't do well against the Mummy at all. He almost beat him by knocking him off the ledge, but aside from that he was getting curbstomped. But he lost anyway so I don't see how that changes my point...?

Aaaand I don't know why you thought pointing out that Kuririn has done better than Yamcha would help your case? Also, Satan has died less than Yamcha. So has Videl, and Bulma, and Chichi, and Puar, Oolong... guess they're all better than Yamcha!

guess they're all better than Yamcha!

Pretty sure that'd be the case even if they died more than Yamcha. n_n;

Poor Yamcha...always the butt of the jokes.

Goku: Geez, Frieza! This steak is a pile of ashes!

Frieza: Odd. I only cooked it for five minutes.

Frieza and Cell would probably just sit there with a sweatdrop on their face as Goku and Buu devour the entire table. Cell would at least retrieve a piece of cornbread, though. He loves it.

Buu: What's an hour?

Freeza: Um...200 episodes of Dragon Ball Z?

If Buu had asked Frieza instead of Piccolo, Goten and Trunks would have had a whole century to prepare for Buu.

[up] (x9)

Respectful shrug.

[up] Goku and Gohan are bad role models.

Why: Exposure to lots of media violence can increase antisocial activity and bullying and decrease empathy for victims of violence.

Disagree. Goku was my role model. Strong, carefree, good-willed, adventurous. I wanted to dress up as him for Halloween. I played a crapload of violent games when I was a kid on top of watching DB/DBZ, and I understood quite well that what Goku and Vegeta could do was physically impossible. No desire to fight wild bears or KO giant fish at all.

Dragonball was my anti-drug. Take that grade school soccer team and choir.

Buu would simply make a meal out of the rest of the guests.

Also, not gonna read that article, but Goku is an ABYSMAL role model, especially around the Buu Saga. Not seeing anything really wrong with Gohan, though.

Fine, be that way. -_-

Yeah, he got stupid around the Buu Saga, but where can you find a more heroic, kind-hearted Japanese manga/anime hero who doesn't believe himself to be larger than life?

The article rounded Goku and Gohan together apparently because both father and son use violence to solve their problems. Might have been avoided if Gohan had beaten Cell with words instead of the sadistic Super Saiyan 2 beatdown.

The article was stupid as fuck but Goku is a bad role model if he's any kind of role model. It's kind of hard to say that you can call him a good or bad role model since the shit he deals with is completely outside real life problems.

Yeah, rules about parenting and problem solving kinda go out the window when you're dealing with alien tyrants, insectoid science experiments, and infinitely regenerating bubblegum monsters all of whom can blow up planets with the raise of an eyebrow.

Dragon Ball, if it has any good things to teach, they would be hard work and the possibility to push past your limits. I always liked that.

Come battle of the gods and hard work is not good enough and you will never surpass your limits even though the cat god has, without hard work.

Hell, that may be a more realistic message but damn its not something I would put in a cartoon for kids. At least with the former they may be inspired to make Achievements in Ignorance.

You'd rather delude children by teaching false lessons? That's worse than an unpleasant-but-important dose of reality, if you ask me.

Yes, I would rather give as few excuses for not working hard as possible, even if they are technically justified. (Hard work is not enough, you need luck too and sometimes you are just born lucky, like Bills. But the message did not have to be delivered so hamfistedly)

If anything, Dragonball, to me, teaches a lot of accidental bad aesops instead.

To quote from "Warp That Aesop"

Heritage determines everything important about you. If you're not born special, you're worthless.

It's perfectly acceptable to endanger the lives of everyone on the planet, just so long as you get a good fight out of it.

And my personal favorite: "Getting angry is the only way to win a fight."

Yeah, getting angry did Gohan so well against Cell. Beyond the initial transformation, anger was not the way to go into battle.

Crazy thought!

W-What if Dragon Ball doesn't want to teach any lessons and just wants to entertain?

Impossible! Besides, if heritage was all that mattered, Vegeta the prince of all saiyans and Piccolo, son of the devil, would never have been surpassed by Goku, a low class saiyan.
