He outright says he can beat Buu, but was holding back, then goes in against a guy whose a little stronger or weaker than the one he fought, give or take, and loses even though he was going all out.
To me that is just shows the character is wrong, not that the author is retroactively changing what he wrote. This discussion sounds to me like people would rather have a so called continuity error than to have Goku have that particular mistake that brings his "fighting genius" label into question. Though, it really does not bother me too much, because Goku had not seen first hand just how resilient Majin Buu was. Remember, he pulled out of the first fight because he thought he was risking permanent destruction. This was not him saying "I can beat Majin Buu but I will not because I think you can do it." but "Now I think I could have found a way but did not want to risk being turned Deader than Dead back when other people with slightly less to lose had a better shot at winning anyway."
You know, maybe Goku could have found a way to beat Cell if he had eaten a sensu bean instead of the other way around but he stepped back because Gohan had a better shot at winning.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackFat Buu, judging by his fight with Vegeta, is extremely weak compared to any SS 3. It would be rather silly if Goku couldn't kill him. He just didn't care about defending Earth anymore and instead sent off his seven year old son to fight the monster that 'killed' his other son.
Nope. Trunks thought that they could win by giving Goku a senzu and ganging up on the fatigued Cell, but Cell reveals right after that he was holding back an enormous amount of power. He easily could've just powered up and killed everyone there in one hit, before Gohan went SS 2.
@Cider He failed to defeat Pure Boo because of his living body. He didn't have that restriction against Fat Boo.
And no, the permanent destruction was not mentioned anywhere to have influenced Goku's decision. He says he could have won, but chose not to so the kids would have a chance. It was never brought up that he could have been killed permanently. You're making that up to explain what the series already did.
He did fall off a cliff and bash his skull on a rock...
Wow. Way to mock the mentally retarded Kay.
I hope you feel very horrible about yourself.

Oh.
Fine then. You're off the hook Kay...
For now.

One Strip! One Strip!
No way. I called Firsties.
You are off the hook, and I am watching you.
This is fact.
So getting back on topic, what are your favourite techniques in Dragonball fellow tropers?
I'm putting up Kienzan / Destructo-Disk, the Masankosapppo(sp) / Special Beam Canon, and the Taiyouken / Solar Flare.
The last one in particular never really goes out of style. Tenshihan really scored with that one.

One Strip! One Strip! It looks cool truthfully.
And lets be frank. Being the inventor of a technique doesn't ensure you're the best user of it.
Look at what went down with the Kamehameha.
It's funny since the Wolf Fang Fist is just a Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs in the long run.
One Strip! One Strip!...I actually love using the Wolf Fang Fist in Raging Blast 2. It's hard to feel like a bawss playing as Yamcha, but landing a full WFF is just incredibly satisfying, especially on someone annoying like Broly.
My favorite techniques, though, are probably the Special Beam Cannon for the silly dub name, and Buu's various Mystic Attacks. Mystic Ball Attack is just silly.
If we're counting non-canon stuffs, I like the Dragon Fist (Make fun of GT all you want, but Goku punching a hole through Omega Shenron was pure awesome) and Android 13's S.S. Deadly Hammer. OWCH.
Also, for some reason, Evil Buu's Guilty Flash is pretty cool to me. Maybe because it's such overkill.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Goku:Spirit bomb(it sucks in Tenkaichi 2, the fact that it doesn't do a 1-hit K.O. on the first 2 villians is also kind of lame, I like it regardless)
Vegeta:Final Flash and Big bang attack(Its a cool name, should've used it more often)
Krillin:Kienzan(Devastating move, if only he used it more effectively)
Picollo:Hellzone Grenade(its a cool lookin' move, if he was stronger probably would've killed 17 with it)
Trunks:Burning attack(Like final flash but red)
Super Buu:Human extinction attack(Its just really funny to see him that massive storm of ki-blast so casually)

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

Yeah.
I wish Gohan had gotten his shot in that battle too, even though I like that the Spirit Bomb actually worked for a change.
I still wish we could have had it both ways really. Gohan gets his time to shine, and the ultimate attack finally works like it's supposed to.
