Xenoverse calls it "Turtle Style Last Resort". There you go, a much better English name than "Thunder Shock Surprise".
I haven't tried it out yet. Don't currently have a character it would fit with stylistically.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — UltimatepheerWhy do they call it the ATMOS system? They're calling it the Atmospheric Omissions System system!

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseCompetitive? It lets you use lightning flash surprise attack and you're worried about competitive value? That's like getting the KI Crusher in a WWE game and complaining that it doesn't cause bloodshed and is spelled with an L instead of an R.
edit:And it's called Kamehameha wave in reference to his soldiers sweeping across and uniting all the islands.

Buldogue's lawyerWhy DID Toriyama decide to make Gohan the main character, anyway? It kind of comes out of nowhere. Did he just think the story was getting too formulaic, or something? He wanted to make it unpredictable again?
It's just so weird. You'd never expect a long-running shonen to do something like this anymore. You need a lot of guts to do it and expect the fans to accept it.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Dragon Ball Z is a Shonen Action series. What's the most common protagonist of such a series?
I assure you, it's not an adult, married man, like Goku was.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimari
And yet, immediately after Gohan is made the main character, he gets aged up to 16. That's a little bit older than the target demographic.
That's also a common age for shonen protagonists. The demographic can look up to teenagers while still relating to them more than adults.
Anyway, I HAVE RETURNED
That's probably the point. Toriyama liked to do things he thought people wouldn't expect.
On battle powers, Kaio-ken, Kamehameha and the Galick Gun:
Few things to note here - the Kamehameha is likely not additive, as that would make it extremely overpowered in early Dragon Ball. If it were multiplicative, though, Goku using it in conjunction with the Kaio-ken x20 should have been enough to overpower Freeza. I tend to view that scene as Early-Installment Weirdness in regards to battle powers and assume it represents Goku's peak that he can't use without resorting to special techniques at that time - later, he's at that peak all the time.
Also, Vegeta makes it extremely clear that he and Nappa can't modify their battle power. So with his Galick Gun he should still read at 18,000 on a scouter. As for him surviving Goku's x4 Kamehameha, not only is he exceptionally durable but I think the fact that Goku's Kamehameha had to push through the Galick Gun would have weakened it.
@Arha
wow this is the first time I've seen you drop punctuation to express non-srslyness. I feel like we're growing closer.
In theory, anyway. In practice that is exactly the opposite of what people do.
Is the DMOS still there for Satan taking credit for other people's victories?
Also, I'd like to point out that Sugarwiki has just a great a capacity for awful. You only need to look at CMoA and see people listing the most minor and mundane shit to feel your stomach turn. Even better when they're clearly trying to find something awesome for their favourite character and fall flat.
Still one of the most insane paragraphs I've read in my life. Drink it in, my friends. And also my not-friends who are still inexplicably around here.
That's a funny way to say horrendous tumour on the franchise that this series has never been able to recover from since his introduction
On the final battle/genki dama scene with Pure Boo - if you think the multiple opportunities to end things with Gohan or Vegetto were bad, consider the following: even if Goku Boo had repelled the Genki Dama back at Goku, and Goku somehow couldn't bounce it back like Gohan did, they still win. Because when you're in otherworld, what exactly is the difference between alive Goku and dead Goku? Alive Goku can't use Super Saiyan 3 effectively. We've seen that dead Goku gets his body back basically immediately, we've seen that dead Goku can occupy the Kaioshin planet. Boo kills him, he effectively gets a power-up and finishes off Pure Boo.
To call that fight false tension wouldn't even begin to cover it. Even the very final scene has no actual way for Pure Boo to come out victorious. The whole thing is just one giant joke, and I can't think it's awesome with some many issues popping up at my face. It's like a shallow imitation of what a grand finale looks like.
Sorry if this came out super disjointed or random. This is me finally catching up on the thread, late at night, after I spent the past few days marathoning my Legend Of Korra blu-rays. I figured I should probably prioritize watching the stuff I actually paid for. It was an awesome time.
EDIT: And another thing, on Beerus' characterization in Super: I absolutely think there is a difference between his portrayal here and in BOG, and it's nothing as superficial as actually seeing him destroy planets. The reason I can enjoy his character in BOG is because he's very silly, and passionate. Seeing him getting worked up over Gotenks calling him out on his pudding his hilarious. He's much different to the villains that came before him and he's portrayed as only destroying planets when he loses his temper - he also has a Hair-Trigger Temper but that's what makes him so funny.
In Super he doesn't seem to be as passionate and destroys planets without someone needing to trigger his temper. That makes him come off as a lot colder and sadistic and more in-line with villains like Freeza who would calmly enjoy destroying things. Super's version of BOG had a general problem with removing a lot of BOG's humour which really hurt it and it fucked over Beerus' presentation.
Another thing, in Super the Old Kaioshin makes it clear that Beerus isn't really covered by the "balance of the universe" excuse - he outright says that there is no meaning/purpose to him destroying planets on a whim.

Yeah.
That's a thing for me as well in regards to Beerus. He just exists, and nobody except Whis can stop him. And 90% of the time, Whis just lets him do what he likes anyway. I mean, we can assume he pulls a time reversal to restore Planets that Beerus destroys all the time can we?
So Beerus is just the top dog who can do whatever he wants all the time, and no-one can really do anything about him at all.
One Strip! One Strip!

Favorite attack is that lightning move Roshi used in the 21st. Not saying the name because the english name sucks and the Japanese name has far too many B's and K's to remember.
