Gohan going SSJ 2 without Gohan Angers just...just wasn't right.

That song is amazing.

Yeah, the dub music team really dropped the ball with that scene.

We finally started watching DBZ Kai. Feels kinda weird, for some reason I can't quite articulate. But I love that new opening/closing animation. I would love to see new DB anime with animation like THAT. I also appreciated that, in the first scene featuring him and Nappa, Vegeta's colors were corrected. He looked so different early on in the series! Kinda nerdy and small, compared to how badass his personality is.

One thing I never noticed before was that, when Raditz was explaining that a "meteor" destroyed planet Vegeta, they showed the planet having four rings around it, which is different from how it was shown in the Bardock special, which came later than the first season of DBZ.

Do not obey in advance.

I have a general question, sorry if it's been asked before, but doing a little combing didn't bring anything up: is Mystic Gohan's overall power, comparable to everyone else, ever revealed? I'm just sort of curious if we ever knew exactly how strong he was.

He's the strongest non-fused character in the series. The only characters stronger than him in canon are Super Buu after absorbing Piccolo and Gotenks (And, obviously, Buu after absorbing Gohan himself), and Vegito.

He's stronger than Goku and Gotenks even at Super Saiyan 3, and stronger than Super Buu's base form.

As far as movie characters go, he's weaker than Beers and Whis for sure, and we don't know about Super Janemba (Super Janemba seems somewhere between base Super Buu and Gotenks Buu, so Gohan could be stronger or weaker). He's probably quite a bit stronger than Hirudegarn given Goku's quick dispatch of it, but was sorta helpless against Hirudegarn's intangibility like everyone else was. Unless he dropped in power that hard after the defeat of Buu, or something.

GT doesn't even use Mystic Gohan, giving him back his Super Saiyan form for no real reason, so we can't reliably compare him to anyone there. He's definitely weaker than most of the villains from Rilldo onward, though.

I wouldn't use GT or movies to accurately judge Mystic Gohan.

Also, there was another soundtrack for Kai?

Well, that makes sense. I was trying re-watch DBZ using Kai and the music was so horrible that I switched back to Funi! DBZ.

I always thought the Gohan Angers song was lame. Same goes whatever song they used in the dub.

The only time the music was suitably epic for a first-time transformation was when Goku went SSJ 3.

I wouldn't use GT or movies to judge Gohan, either. I gave a canon establishment of Gohan's strength first, then compared non-canon characters to him more to know where they lie relative to Gohan.

And yeah, Kai had to switch soundtracks. At first they used an original score created for Kai, but due to plagiarism issues had to remove it and put in the original score from the old Japanese version, which to be blunt is not very good for fitting music. I don't know how you can take Cell being menacing seriously when there's slide whistles going on in the background, unless Cell got a new career as a clown at a carnival game.

I like Gohan's Anger and SSJ 3 Transformation a lot. Faulconer's score is great, even if it never shuts up. The first Kai score is really good, too. Not as intense as Faulconer's but it isn't as omnipresent. Too bad it sounds exactly like some other copyrighted pieces.

I like the instrumental music they used in Dragon Ball Z Kai. It just gave the series a feeling of awesomeness:

Maybe to some people, instrumental music is cheesy, but I like that kind of music. The music, combined with Goku yelling out his name, just made me sit there and think, "That was perfect." grin[tup][awesome]

I can't do it man. I'm a fan of most forms of music in general...

...but that is not how I was brought up. I stick with the Falconer stuff. The only alteration I'll accept is Gohan turning into a SSJ 2, because you can actually hear the bird flapping in the wind with the song.

Not really. Pretty much everything was copied from the Dragon Ball wiki, and then some things have been changed. It's still got just as much misinformation, like Goku's power level being 200,000,000 after returning from Yardrat.

Oh, and it uses "Brief" as Trunks and Bulma's surname which is wrong. They don't have a surname, as far as we know, Bulma's dad is just "Dr. Brief".

Saiga Since: Feb, 2011 Relationship Status: Getting away with murder
#2942: Jul 13th 2013 at 3:57:11 PM

It's been around for a long time. Older than 2005. It's not exactly the same stuff, it's like 90-5% the same, but any changes are almost always just as wrong, if not more so.

The reason to copy it could be someone wanted more control than they had at the other wiki, so they copied and created their own. Or they got banned from the other one, etc.

And if someone wanted to make a more accurate wiki for Dragon Ball, they'd be better off just started from scratch rather than copying. It'd actually be less work with the sheer volume of misinformation on the normal one.

[up] I see. I've noticed a lot of Wikis get their start by basically copying stuff (a lot of the Wikias, for instance, began by copying information from The Other Wiki to them before The Other Wiki's entries were deleted as cruft) which is why I thought it was recent.

Kanzenshuu are going to start their own wiki, sometime in the future. They'll have tighter editing standards and focus primarily on the manga, so it's bound to be far more accurate than either of those.

[up] Funtime.

If I were trying to make a more accurate DB Wiki I'd probably just omit the live-action film. I've never seen it, but hearing about it I don't think I'd want to...

I don't think they'll omit anything, because that would lead to a shitstorm, but it'll likely only get a page to itself and not be mentioned elsewhere.

In-universe information will likely cite the manga primarily, and occasionally cite something anime/moves/GT/video games add to the topic while also noting where it comes from.

You know what would really be nice for a Dragonball wiki? One that compares the original Japanese version with the English version(s).

Take Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku. You could write a book on the number of differences between the versions:

  1. Japanese version: unnamed doctors felt that Goku would never amount to anything. English version: named doctors brag about how Goku is gonna be someone special.
  2. Japanese version: not a lot of dialogue in a number of scenes. English version: cranks up Lull Destruction to ridiculously high levels.
  3. Japanese version: Bardock doesn't want to see his son, because his infant son only has a power level of one. English version: Bardock doesn't want to see his son, because he's never going to see his son and doesn't see a point in getting attached to him.
  4. Japanese version: a number of characters never did get any names because they weren't that important. English version: a lot of unimportant characters actually get names.
  5. Japanese version: Bardock was a member of his squad, but nothing indicates that he was actually the leader. English version: Bardock is totally the leader of his squad.
  6. Japanese version: most of the Saiyanjin had no problem working for Freezer, and in fact called him Freezer-sama. English version: the Saiyans bad-mouthed Freezer at every point to insanely high levels.
  7. Japanese version: Zarbon and Dodoria plant the idea in Freezer's head that the Saiyans were getting too strong as a group, and King Vegeta's attack galvanized Freezer into destroying planet Vegeta. English version: Freezer gets paranoid about the idea of Bardock's squad getting too powerful.
  8. Japanese version: King Vegeta didn't care at all about his son being in Freezer's clutches, and just wanted to take Freezer's empire for his own. English version: the king attacks Freezer to rescue his son.
  9. Japanese version: Bardock becomes happy that his son will grow up to become a powerful warrior and destroy Freezer. English version: Bardock decides at the end that he actually does love his son.

There are so many differences that any English speaker who reads up on the original Japanese version would get a big shock. smile
