Okay, here is my fanon for the Dragon Ball pantheon.
The lowest rung are the planetary gods and from them are divided space and time
Space goes kais, ruling over entire galaxies worth of planetary gods. Then there are grand kai, who each rule over four kai or four galaxies, then kaioshin ruling over four grand kai or sixteen galaxies and a Daikaioshin ruling over four kaioshin for a total of 64 galaxies. The physical universe has then been split in half, all of these mirrored in a demon world, for a total 128 kai/galaxies.
We don't see that many, of course, because Bibidi directed Majin Buu on a murderous destructive rampage. The Daikaioshin is also where the branches meet up, as he also rules over three Kaioshin of time, each with three grand kai to boss around, each with three kai to boss around(time has one less dimension than space you see), or did until Majin Buu killed them all. Then there are the outlying deities, the judges of death (Emma Dao) who reign between heaven hell, the gods of destruction (Beerus) who have a realm parallel to the Kaioshin. All these things are also mirrored with demonic counterparts, Demon Dao rewarding the evil demons with hell and banishing the virtuous demons to heaven. A diabolical god of destruction in his own realm parallel to the demon Daikaioshin, who rules over three demonic Kaioshin of time in addition to four of space.
Demigra is the demonic Daikaioshin, or was until he shirked his duties to go conquer the mirror world and was sealed in the crack in time for his punishment. He retained his godly energies but not his rank or authority, which were unfilled until his death.
If I were to become a head of the asylum rather than an inmate, my Dragon Ball spin off would deal with the fact that most of these things have been destroyed by Buu. The story would follow the creator gods in their collective efforts to recreate all that was killed and destroyed and their individual efforts to become the new supreme ruler of creation in their respective halves of the universe. It would be called Dragon Ball RU7(rebuilding universe seven) and tie back into the main Dragon Ball plot when the new Daikaioshin meets up with Beerus for a coordination meeting regarding universal operations and in turn introduce a new Big Bad Duumvirate: The gods of balance and preservation.
The gods of balance and preservation think the kaioshin in general have been doing too much creation and think Beerus has been causing too much destruction. They want everything to stay the same way forever you see. So they took advantage of distractions like Majin Buu, Super Saiyan God and Champa from universe 6 to come up with an Evil Plan to remake the universe more to their liking. New Daikaioshin and Beerus have only uncovered their dastardly plot at the last minute.
It would also tie in with Dragon Ball Online, with Demigra and the Demonic Kaioshin of time being the next rung of villains above the Time Breakers. Having not been murdered by Majin Buu, they've had the opportunity to become stronger than their counterparts and now want to conquer the non demonic half of the universe.
Buldogue's lawyerI like Kai. I like Gohan's new voice (never saw the Funimation One Piece, can't comment). I like the acting and the music.
I never really had much of an attachment to the original series, to be honest. I saw bits of everything from Namek to Cell to Buu, but I never really got into it. Hell, I watched some parts of the original, and two things stood out: the horrible dubbing in some parts by Funimation (not Ocean, but they did it worse by far) and the length...oh god, I wanted to sleep while watching it. Hell, I actually did sleep watching the first Broly movie! The filler I can live without, in the end it still exists in another series, but the padding...oh god...talk about a fucking snooze pill.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I couldn't watch Kai at all because they didn't get Goku, Piccolo or Vegeta to reprise their roles. They didn't have Mario Castañeda, Carlos Segundo or Rene Garcia. Their performances were amazing, and the replacement actors are vastly inferior, to the point that it becomes unwatchable for me.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariKai is great because the english script is a lot more accurate. When I found out FU Nimation had a line where Freeza told Goku that his shoes were untied, and Goku replied with "I don't even have shoelaces!", I lost a lot of respect for it. (Not that I had that much respect for it to begin with).
The original DBZ dub is everything everyone hates about dubbed anime. Changes in characters and plot points, censorship, replacing music, poor voice acting... I know why it ended up the way it did, and I know why people like it. It's just an entirely different show to what the Japanese version is.
(and god I sound like such an elitist I'm sorry)

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Trunks has different Pre Mortem One Liners before he kills the Androids. My pet peeve is that he doesn't say THIS IS FOR GOHAN before killing 18.
I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..I do vastly prefer Son Goku's speech in Kai to Z's.
But Cell's death was epic in Z's while in Kai it was just much lamer in comparison.
I mean say what you want about the padding but they got the epic scenes mostly right. Goku's SS 3 transformation for instance.
I also don't like new Bulma and 18's voice.
I do wish Z had done less whitewashing of Goku though.

Oh no, I miss 18's old voice. Alluring, cold, menacing.
As for dubs, I'm rather fond of the Japanese version of the scene when Gohan transforms.
I love the bird most of all, because I don't think it's used anywhere else in the series - we see Goku revive a bird in Revenge of Cooler, it feels like that's a reference. If it isn't, what a coincidence. Also love that bird because it's the complete opposite of Gohan's mental state.
Oh goodness... the Abridged series still needs to establish Gohan's attachment to Android 16...

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!![]()
I dunno it sounded nice to me.
(I also picked this video because of that unintentional foreshadowing at 1:05.)
The lady who voices Bulma in Kai isn't awful. It just sounds forced to me.
Neither Kai nor Z have actually been able to replicate the awesomeness of that scene although the bird is just weird to me. I guess it's supposed to represent him snapping when it goes away.

Personally, I think the anime's soundtrack got progressively worse as time went on. Like, the first theme was catchy, head chala was awesome and then suddenly Godzilla music, which doesn't at all work for a martial arts show. The Gohan's powers up against Cell theme is an exception to late anime music sucking though, I love that theme.
Buldogue's lawyerWell perhaps not an attachment, but clearly that was Gohan's breaking point, 16 had gotten through to him.
I imagine they'd have to establish that Gohan somewhat respects 16 in order to have an emotional breakdown over him, or at least, they'd have to have on Gohan's gags clash/mix with one of 16's in a meaningful way.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Not really, the point was that Gohan blamed himself for 16 dying because he wasn't fighting back. Cell could have killed anyone there and his reaction most likely would have been the same in that situation.
Edit: As far as gags for set up go, I'm sure they could do something good but I'm not sure they could edit that to look naturally giving what little proximity and actual speaking they did to each other.

The simple answer is that the original Funi dub sucked until the Android saga, while the Kai dub sucked starting with the Android saga.
So ideally you watch the Kai dubs up until the end of Frieza, then switch back to old Funi.
Losing the Yamamoto score, even if it was plagiarized, definitely hurts Kai, because the original Japanese score sucks. Bruce Faulconer's score never shuts up, yeah, but at least it sounds nice and helps set the scene.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()
Yay!! Other people like this version! Yay! It's one of my favourite scenes in all of Dragon Ball. That version in particular.
Anyway, the important part about that scene wasn't that Gohan cared or knew 16. It was that 16's words actually resonated with him, with 16 telling him that it's okay to let go and to fight for something you believe in.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!Ya know, saying the Kai dub sucks is kind of unfair :
Its just at that point, the original dub started to shape up, so it was sort of redundant. That and the Android Arc is the one almost everyone from our generation remembers, so naturally everyone is quicker to call things out as being better from their childhood.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.

Like, the problem with the anime for me wasn't so much the filler as it was the padding.
