He didn't even try to kill him after transforming.
Once it was established that Goku was more powerful and Frieza couldn't possibly touch him, Goku went for the Cruel Mercy option more or less guaranteed to have terrible consequences. That doesn't diminish the effort, though; Frieza is the only villain in the entire franchise ever to push Goku to cruelty.
He's been merciless to his enemies and Innocently Insensitive to his friends, but Goku is rarely cruel.

Majin Buu's also well liked.
Not the Dangerously Genre-Savvy Chessmaster Super Buu who Out-Gambitted Piccolo, or the No-Nonsense Nemesis Kid Buu, the Laughably Evil Fat Buu.
I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..He got a Humiliation Conga worse than Frieza at the hands of Vegetto though.

I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..My favorite Buu form is Pure Buu, to be honest. <.< He won a lot of points from me for actually doing what so many villains have only used as a gambit to force the protagonists to block their attacks. His first action upon emerging from Super Buu: "F*ck this planet."
I mean, Frieza did it too, but that was because he wanted to ragequit a fight. Pure Buu just had no f*cks to give.

Because double-killing is actually a thing you can do and the consequences are horrifying, it's for the best that his attention turned toward Goku and Vegeta.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The whole point of Goku going Super Saiyan was it was new, and it had never been done before. Goku had never transformed before. He had never completely given into anger, only for him to manage it himself.
And anyway, it made too much thematic sense to not include. Freeza was scared of the Saiyans, and later they say he was scared of the Super Saiyan legend, so he gets defeated by a Super Saiyan.
Although, surprisingly, they didn't really play the transformation card in the same way ever again. Gohan going SSJ 2 was part of his usual rage boosts and his 'hidden power'. Whereas SSJ 3 was just made up on the spot and didn't really help with the final villain at all.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!

And he still didn't kill him.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
