So I finished this story and I like it.
I like things about Saiyan biology.
I have an appreciation for things that try to take the ridiculous seriously.

God, I love reading well-written DBZ fanfiction. Especially stuff about Gohan. So, yeah. That was great.
I also wish they could explore the characters a little further. They did it a lot in Cell and in the start of Buu, but after that, the only things we've been seeing are "man, Goku and Vegeta really suck at this 'saving the Earth' business." That's the only potential character development that they've hinted towards.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!OHHH THAT PART ABOUT THE SAIYANS BEING MADE BY THE SUPREME KAIS MAKES ME SO MAD. THAT WAS MY IDEA!
My various fanfics.I mean, they didn't. I had the idea separate from them. It's just frustrating to think that you've had a really clever idea and then find out that someone did it already.
Eh, I'm over it. Me and Zel already talked about it.
My various fanfics.Of course it has character development. Everyone who isn't Goku gets a lot of it, at least when they're first introduced. Piccolo gets some, Gohan gets a lot, and Vegeta gets so much it takes the entire Z portion and it's still not finished yet.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!I think Goku sorta gets some.
Like, there's a lot about Goku that stays the same, he's still basically innocent, but.
Goku's different at the end of Dragon Ball when you compare him to the start.
I mean, for starters, by the Buu saga he asks whether Videl is a girl instead of touching her. And he assumes she's a girl so he's better at the visual and auditory recognition. So Goku is a little better at social norms.
He evidently understood enough to know to bribe Elder Kai with a kiss or a picture or a chance to cop a feel or whatever. So he knows how to manipulate perverts, when before they manipulated him.
As Goku goes on, he becomes less willing to kill his enemies, but. Not entirely for altruistic reasons? He lets Vegeta go because he wants a good fight.
When Goku becomes a Super Saiyan the first time. I mean. He wants to break Frieza's spirit. Showing Frieza mercy was ultimately less an act of kindness and more a punishment. To completely demoralize and break him. Same reason he makes sure Cell has a fair fight against Gohan.
When he hears about the androids he wants to fight them. So much could have been avoided, could have been stopped, but. Goku wants a fight.
In the Buu saga he wastes time dicking around and a lot of shit happens because of it.
And. I mean. The thing is, I'm not sure Kid Goku would have, necessarily. He likes fighting, but. He wrecks the shit of people who get in his way or hurt his friends. Whether or not they're good at fighting.
Like, he deliberately tries to kill King Piccolo, and doesn't seem to miss Tao Pai Pai as a rival afterwards.
Because in an odd way, it's almost like Kid Goku took things more seriously.
In some ways it's almost like Goku became a worse person over time.

That is true.
Or maybe it's more like Kid Goku, even with his training from Roshi (and later Korin) didn't know his own strength.
After all, he took an axe to the head and only got a bump, so everyone must be that strong right?
Older Goku is more aware that not everyone is as strong as him (even before he learns he's an alien) so he's better at pulling his punches, while coming to more recognize his Saiyan instincts.
One Strip! One Strip! That's not it.
Kid Goku kills people and knows he kills people.
He wanted Tao Pai Pai and King Piccolo dead.
When Goku spares people as an adult, it's usually not for the right reasons.
EDIT: Babysitter Gohan.

If only we could make Toriyama realize this.
It's fine that he likes Goku and all, but seriously. You have other characters besides him and Vegeta. Why not actually try and do a bit more with them?
You might actually enjoy it.
One Strip! One Strip!I mean.
Frankly I think the biggest problem is that the series still thinks of itself as a shonen series. Which is what it became, but.
But frankly, is also a bit of a waste of a lot of the potential.
The characters are shackled by the genre. Imprisoned within it.

Years down the road when Toei releases Dragon Ball Super Kai, they'll finally cut out all the crazy padding.
