It's just...Goku and Vegeta are only popular now because they're making everyone suck because they want Goku and Vegeta to be more popular. Everyone loved SSJ 2 Cell Games Gohan because he actually did stuff. And he was powerful.
If you want to make a character popular, you just make them do something cool in the series proper. Simple.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!
x5 Not necessarily, Goku & Vegeta always had a sizable leg above the entire cast, with only Piccolo and Gohan being in the same league. But by the end of the series, both Piccolo and Gohan had more or less retired from fighting, so Toriyama probably just felt there wasn't much else to do with anyone not Goku or Vegeta.
It does make sense, focusing on the two characters who's primary drive to fight in a Fighting Series isn't really that bad....it just comes at the expense of anyone else lol.
I don't really like how it happened either, but that's really just the nature of DBZ in a nutshell. Its not even like this a recent occurrence either, even in back in late Dragon Ball throughout Z, the plot more or less depended on a handful of characters while everyone else was just kind there for The Worf Effect.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. The thing is...sure, Goku and Vegeta are the only ones motivated to keep training in a time of peace, but that was only a thing from the start of the Buu Saga. From Raditz until the end of Cell, they were in state of uncertainty. There was always some new threat on the horizon. So it made sense that even the characters who didn't want to train still had to be involved.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! It's not said explicitly that I remember, but it is pretty damn clear that he's retired from fighting.
Yamcha only ever fought to survive and nothing more. Well, there was a time when he was a serious martial artist, too, but that time's long gone.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariThis week in Dragonball Super... Vegeta being domesticated.
QUALITY of course returns for the episode, but I think it gets offset by the ridiculous situation Goku and Vegeta are put into. It's really really weird to listen to Vegeta being... polite. No, seriously, he's so subdued here (well, as subdued as one can be when Goku suddenly drops in uninvited) it's unreal.
That, and the two most powerful mortals in the 7th universe essentially treated as house staff by Whis, heh.
The second half deals with weight training after chores of course... Though obviously Whis being Whis, the weights in question are heavy enough that Goku and Vegeta could barely carry them off inches above the ground... And then they have to run the perimeter of Beerus' planet... And the ground behind them is starting to disappear in timed intervals...
EDIT: Welp, we're skipping directly to Resurrection F material next episode, with Frieza revived already. Looks like we're not seeing HOW Vegeta becomes SSG after all (though this week implies that he's been gaining God ki by osmosis simply by being close to Beerus for so long).

Well, needing a super saiyan for Revival Of F makes sense. Making that super saiyan someone Freeza knows also makes sense, making that super saiyan someone with qualities similar to Goku also makes sense and having that super saiyan show fear in the face of Freezer's weakest form also makes sense. Freeza hates super saiyans, Freeza was a terror on Namek and having someone who experienced that terror relive it with an even stronger Freezer is a good reminder of that, giving Freeza an outlet to rant about and contrast himself to Goku, super saiyan is now insufficient in the face of Freezer.
As much as I'd like to say they could have just used Vegeta if they weren't so intent on wanking him, as much as one could say Goten or Trunks could have produced a similar effect, Gohan is the only one unlucky enough to fit all of those qualities. The question is whether you feel the explanation was pulled out of someone's proverbial ass for what would otherwise be a good story or that the story told was good enough to let you forgive Gohan's demotion.
Personally, I'm amiss to see how Gohan would ever let himself lose the kai power up. He stayed away for over twenty five hours standing and then sitting still the whole time just to get that thing. I'd like to think that it was lost as part of the god ritual. Gohan, at some point goes god but can't internalize the energy after the time limit expires unlike Goku/Vegeta. Gohan, also finds that he has lost his kai power up, buries himself further into his studies in an effort to fight off his disappointment in himself but this causes his power level to further atrophy, further increasing his self loathing, self loathing that will only be overcame with the help of Videl...
You know what, Gohan's a nerd. His power gained from the Kai ritual is still there, it just went back into hiding out of embarrassment. Someone else came up with that and I'm sticking to it.
Buldogue's lawyerGoten and Trunks would have worked better for that role. Freeza may not know them personally, but they're both chibi cersions of the Super Saiyans that defeated him. And they both max out at Super Saiyan 1, making the resemblance even greater. It'd be perfect, and hilarious to see Freeza get confused by them.
Otherwise, Gohan could keep his Ultimate power up and just like BOG turn Super Saiyan for appearance. He knows about Freeza's (past) fear of Super Saiyans.
Agreed.
You know what? Unless someone has a reason why she shouldn't got, I still say 18 should just join in on the battle and Krillin should stay back.
And this is from someone who doesn't like the idea of just inverting the Stay in the Kitchen thing.
One Strip! One Strip!

I think they're content with Gohan being a scholar. I hope not, cause Dragon Ball Z reads as a great Coming of Age Story for Gohan if he continues to be the great saiyaman.
I love you, Krillin!! -struggling to breathe- I love you as well, honey..
