I think it's fascinating that Buff Buu was apparently stronger than Super Buu.
I dunno whether it was stronger than Buucolo, Buutenks or Buuhan, but. Stronger than Super Buu, at least.
That, even with the evil side in control, Buu still wasn't able to access his full strength.
To me that says a lot about the link between Buu's strength and his psyche.
Grand Supreme Kai did a number on him.
...So did Hercule, probably.

South was the Kibito-looking sumbitch.
West was the girl
North had the glorious mustache.
My various fanfics.I wonder what the order for the regular Kais is? Grand is apparently the strongest by a rather large margin, to say the least, given that Buu Saga Piccolo had reason to believe Grand was stronger than him. The next strongest is probably not East, who IIRC was said to be pretty weak, or South who's a pacifist, so it's between North and West.
The kai's fight was filler. The thing about their absorption making Buu weaker wasn't and I know the fight obviously had to happen, but whose to say that's how Toriyama envisioned it? Even when he takes things TOEI innovated themselves (the Demon World, after life gods, more surviving saiyans, Bardock), they tend to end up being very different than what TOEI originally pinned.
And Buu absorbing Beerus probably wouldn't work in the same manner Buu absorbing Vegito didn't really work. Dragon Ball runs off the logic that once power level gaps get to wide regular techniques stop working and the further they get after that the less effective even super special ones like telepathically paralyzing motor control or transfiguring the body get(and conversely, the more effective the basic ones get, to the point licking can cause lethal head trauma). Buu just lucked out that they had special magic properties that overrode power levels but Beerus isn't an earring fusion and thus would be free to...well you get it.
As for Buu having no interest in fighting, every form of Majin Buu we see expressed an interest in fighting except for the tall skinny one, and that's only because the tall skinny one wasn't on panel very long. Fat Buu expressed multiple times how fun fighting Goku was and expressed disappointment when he had to go, Super Buu demanded a strong opponent, Kid Buu was a laughing fiend up until he was finally over whelmed by the spirit dama whatever and even little shy Uub admitted to having fun fighting, just that his responsibility to his family took precedence. In fact, I found it most appropriate the living weapon created to destroy the universe was a Blood Knight with a giant appetite. Even now with the 'Super Saiyan God' silliness, Majin Buu has anywhere from one to four gods in his make up already, at least one of whom is actually making him weaker. Fat Buu's still the only non saiyan till Uub comes that has a chance of catching up with the least amount of ass pulls.
I know it's a stretch but Dragon Ball Online stated each generation of Majin's spawned from Buuby was weaker than the last due to their 'reproduction' process causing their power to dilute but they can all still reach Kid Buu levels of power with enough training and a wish to the dragon. The undiluted fat one should there for be capable of getting to Super Buu levels. But since that's not enough anymore you can still unleash his inhibitors. And if thats not enough you can Reverse the Polarity and turn the inhibitors into boosters. And if that's not enough then you can pull a new super mode out your rear end. Getting Fat Buu to Goku-Vegeta level just takes two to five steps. And it's not like there wouldn't be Majin Buu merchandise to sell. Majin Buu pants, Majin Buu silly putty, Majin Buu teakettles, Majin Buu head bananas, Buu bubblegum, Buu beach towels, my first Majin bakery...
Buldogue's lawyerI actually do hope that if Toriyama ever bothers to show us what the other Supreme Kais look like, he uses the designs that Toei came up with for them.
I mean, West Kai's design is nifty.
Then again, he's more likely to go with something akin to Supreme Kai of time.
But then again, he liked Bardock enough to make him canon, so who knows.
Edit: As for the Beerus talk, it's pretty clear that Beerus does as he pleases, and nobody beyond Whis can stop, and I question how often he does that. He might restore a few destroyed planets if they weren't supposed to be wrecked, but Whis seems incredibly chill with his student's actions.
So basically, despite the fact that it's supposed to be a balance between the Kais and Beerus, that's just a pipe dream, and if he decided to kill them all (well, before Buu did) not a person could stop him but the dude who usually lets him do what he wants anyway.

One Strip! One Strip!I also have to say we don't really have a good barometer for how strong Grand Supreme Kai is. The others can be scaled relative to Kid Buu, but Grand Supreme Kai only fought Buff Buu and got absorptionhaxed pretty quickly. Given that the absorption worked, all we can say is "probably weaker than Super Vegetto."
He seemed to be willingly absorbed, though. Like he knew fully well what would happen.
My various fanfics. The reason Beerus sealed the Elder Kai in the Z Sword is he's not allowed to kill Supreme Kais.
I don't think "allowed" means someone's stopping him, I feel it's more a matter of etiquette and the rules of the universe than anything.
I think it's more because they're regulators and probably manage creation or something.
Before creation comes destruction, but if there's no creation, there can be no distruction.
If he killed them, Beerus would probably lose his job, and then he'd have to work at a McDonald's.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariThe problem is that not wanting to be a fighter was only brought up before he went through major character development. Not being a fighter also went with his whole package of being a helpless child who was kidnapped and forced to train. But the dislike for fighting doesn't come up after he gets over the other problems, so it's natural to think he got over that during the same development. Not thinking that he now enjoys fighting, but he stopped hesitating and started throwing himself into fights in order to help.
That's really not true. It doesn't even come up until much later into the fight, and 16's speech has absolutely nothing to do with losing control nor is it about Gohan realizing he won't lose control. In fact it's the complete opposite - 16's death made Gohan lose control and abandon his values in order to get back at Cell.
The energy clash is the only time that comes up in the manga.
Yeah, but didn't that only not work because Vegito put the shield up, something he had no reason to assume would work? And Buu's magic still caused Vegito to defuse afterward.
I suppose Beerus could and probably would do the same, and wouldn't break apart afterward. He did resist Demigra's mind control.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!

In the anime at least, South, Grand and West Supreme Kai were all pretty impressive against Buu. South was probably stronger, actually, but fell victim to hax. North went down like a chump, though, and East was supposedly even weaker.
