[up] He doesn't go on that spiel in canon or in Kai. Hell, I'm pretty sure that's very different from what Goku actually says during that scene in Kai.

Speaking of, after hearing everyone's Kai performance, hearing their original one is rather weird.

I distinctly remember a thing in the manga where Vegeta has a loud angry outburst and every single other member of the cast just stares at him then goes back to their previous conversation.

And also Vegeta having lots of other petulant inner monologues.

I don't get why Vegeta has such a fandom either. But there is one thing to consider. Dabura was stronger than Gohan when they fought, Vegeta outright stated Dabura was toying with Gohan. Even if you don't take Vegeta's opinion seriously, Goku doesn't deny it, his defense is that Gohan should have more power but hadn't brought it out yet.

Also, I'm not too fond of the idea Gohan was "weaker" when he got older. Slacking off probably didn't help but as you remember, Gohan only kicked ass when he got really angry, and that includes the fight with Cell. He had never been in a fight before but was able to wound Raddiz, yet couldn't so much as stand up to a Saibaman even after training with Piccolo, until Nappa pissed him off. I was under the impression that if he just got upset enough he'd still beat Dabura/Buu/ect just like he beat up everything else, that Elder Kai's potential power up thing simply allowed him to access that strength without being furious.

Although, Gohan and Dabura being equals would fit with the whole "shadow world" concept. If Dabura was as strong as the current strongest living being on Earth, assuming that was Gohan prior to Goku being wished back to life and Vegeta being strengthened by Babadi's magic.(That would also imply something happened on Shadow World to account for said magic and resurrection during the Buu saga, which is why I rarely like use of the mirror world trope)

Vegeta works even if you discount Dabura. He's totally convinced Babadi's magic made him stronger than Gohan from the Cell games but Majin Buu was still too much for him. Dabura works better because he was more Cell like in that he had access to a wide variety of techniques, like Cell, as opposed to Vegeta's jackhammer approach.(which is another issue I have with Vegeta. He and Gohan have pretty much the exact same fighting style. In practice, the only difference between a Vegeta and Gohan fight was Gohan going The Incredible Hulk when someone hurt his friends, and then Battle Of Gods went and gave Vegeta that gimmick. So now, I guess the difference is Gohan's internal dialog will be of doubt and regret while Vegeta's will be about being a prince and whatnot)

I didn't ask why Vegeta has a fandom.

I asked why people take him seriously.

I can't take that very seriously either.

I mean, the only change Vegeta went through was he became less of an asshole because of good influences like Frieza, Goku and Bulma.

Yes I include Frieza on that list.

I get the distinct impression that spending time with Frieza made Vegeta slightly less evil then he was as a kid beforehand. At least Frieza's first response to a situation isn't "fuck everything". It takes time to wear him down to that point.

Either way.

Also, the person speaking sounds slightly concussed and also pretentious as hell.

Well, I thought it was a good video. If Vegeta did inspire someone to push themselves harder, that is a good thing I guess, even if I don't really care much for him.

Gohan is a character I did like, but started to like less as the series progressed.

Vegeta does eventually lead to the creation of Gotenks, that much I can credit his existence for. Whether or not that makes up for the burial of Yamcha and eventually, of Piccolo, is another story.

No, it doesn't make up for the burial of Piccolo but Yamcha might be worth debating.

I actually do like the inspiration speech.

I mean, yeah, he's an ass, but man, he's taken a lifetime worth of beatings, and he keeps getting right back up for more.

To quote the song, he gets knocked down, but he gets up again, and you ain't never gonna keep him down.

I may acknowledge that he's a big why is Goku stronger than me!!!! whiny bitchy baby, but once a fight comes up '' nobody gets his ass kicked like Vegeta nobody lets his ego rage like... umm nobody....does....stuff like.....that guy.....who....does stuff......

I literally just posted a thing where Vegeta thinks "why won't you leave me alone" at Goku! By Christopher Sabat, in a thing that actually got released!

It's amazing!

You can't exaggerate Vegeta's character. It can't actually be done. He outdoes himself at every turn in the manga in terms of sheer immature petulance and pettiness.

Also, this used to be funnier as a response when the spider-man image still worked.

My biggest problem with Stupidoomdoodles is she takes Vegeta too seriously. Much more than Toriyama.

I mean, Majin Buu gets released basically because Vegeta has a temper tantrum. That's it. That's what happened. You can dress it up as much as you like in all the speeches about pride and honor and what it means to be a warrior, but that's giving him a lot more credit than he actually deserves.

He's the sort of parent who lives vicariously through his children beating up other people's children.

He blows up the punch machine just because he could. He didn't have to. He had no reason to. He just wanted to be a dick. That's it.

He frequently yells extremely loudly about how much he doesn't care about things. Baka.

Vegeta is, fundamentally, an absurd character.

All of the characters are. The premise of the series is "what if the Monkey King Sun Wukong was an alien with braindamage and everyone was a pervert"

At least that's the premise they ended up with.

I think you answered your own question there.

People take him seriously because people take all the characters seriously, to some degree.

People can take Vegeta seriously because, well, there's no real reason why they shouldn't be able to.

Vegeta can make even the dumbest of lines sound cool.

This is the guy who can make "No Homo" sound awesome. We can take him seriously a lot and that's why the moments he does something really goofy it becomes utterly hilarious. Someone saying "Mondo Cool" is dorky. Vegeta saying "Mondo Cool" is hilarious.

Vegeta's over the top and goofy moments make him that much more believable because not everyone can be broody and angsty and angry all the time, and it shows that he can be more than a one note, flat and shallow character.

Yeah, if we didn't take Vegeta seriously then his bingo dance wouldn't have been nearly as hilarious. That scene wouldn't have been nearly as great if, say, Goku or Krillin did it.

See, I think I found it hilarious because Vegeta takes himself so seriously.

Goku and Krillin don't as much. They're more laidback. Much more so.

It's a plotpoint in Revival of F even. Whis brings it up about Goku.

Vegeta is just so uptight though. It's why I can't take him seriously. But he takes himself so completely seriously it's farcical.

And the greatest thing about the Bingo dance is that he's still serious about it. Like, his movements are sorta stiff but also precise. It's perfectly choreographed. And he's trying to say it like he means it.

He's smiling but it's a very stiff, forced smile. Like he's forcing himself to do this because of how important it is.

Which is a reason why you should be able to take him seriously.

The guy is willing to humiliate himself for what he cares about.

It's way easier to take someone seriously when you've seen them fail and get back up.

Well, I don't dislike Broly, but I think the movie was written rather poorly.

Like, Broly's not one of those villains you defeat by punching him to death, you beat him by outsmarting him.

And how do they defeat him? By punching him to death, of course! (With one punch, no less)
