I still prefer Raditz as a unit of measurement. His 1,500 battle power neatly fits into most of the other characters.
For the record, that upper limit of consideration for where Goku's Super Saiyan 3 falls would be approximately 32 million Raditz.
Even if you don't, that Pure Buu was driven to attempt absorbing South and Dai Kaioshin where he was able to just kill North and West Kaioshin implies the same thing the anime showed: he was getting his ass kicked.

A lot weaker.
Like. Super Buu is still weaker than Buff Buu. So Super Buu is still not all of the power Buu got from the Supreme Kais.
Goku couldn't even touch Super Buu. He didn't want to try. Buff Buu is stronger than that, and Grand Supreme Kai is even stronger.
And I think that's fantastic. The power of the Supreme Kais refuses to be used for evil.
Could East Supreme Kai be stronger than 1000 times Frieza's first form?

It's only the Daikaioshin that's a power limiter on Majin Buu, and that might very well have been a gambit on his part to make Buu defeatable.
Also, while it's implied and fairly clear that Goku couldn't beat Super Buu, the 'couldn't touch him' is wrong. Super Buu is not insanely stronger than Fat Buu. He's stronger, yes, but not by so much of a margin that Goku wouldn't even be able to hurt him.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariGoku couldn't beat Super Buu if they were equal in power, courtesy of SSJ 3 power drain and Buu's regeneration.
For something that feels like Toriyama made up in the last minute to quickly get rid of Gotenks and Gohan, the absorption ability sure did add more to Buu's character.
One of the many times where he turned retcons and plot holes into actually interesting story.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! The absorption ability is the only reason Buu is a 'character' to begin with. Pure Buu has no personality, it's just a wild animal that wakes up, blows shit up and then goes back to sleep in a neverending cycle.

That's the thing about Writing by the Seat of Your Pants. Like any other skill, if you make shit up for long enough, you get really good at making shit up.
Another thing I was surprised about in the manga was that the Bulma/Yamcha pairing was not very developed at all. Given that there was supposedly a pretty big backlash against her breakup with Yamcha and hookup with Vegeta I thought it would be a well-established pairing, but to the extent that Toriyama does develop romance, Bulma/Vegeta got a lot more exploration, I think.

Keep in mind that many Western fans came onboard at Raditz, the point when "Z" started. They never had a chance to see how weak Bulma and Yamcha's relationship was or how pitiful Yamcha can be. They came in just in time to see Yamcha, this cool-looking guy with Goku's outfit and badass scars get blown up almost immediately as he's introduced and then his longtime girlfriend dumps him for his murderer.
Yamcha and Bulma's relationship was built on mutual desperation and seemed to be a miserable wreck the entire way through, but they missed all of it and arrived just in time to see only the end. And since many of those fans were teen boys, they sympathized instantly with Yamcha, even though they barely even knew who he was outside anime filler that made the humans out to be more awesome than they are, via things like defeating the Ginyu Force while training at Kaio-sama's.

Oh, those Kais. Sorry, I forgot who the line was referencing.
Yeah, that's a bit different. Pure Buu was roughly even with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, winning out through his infinite stamina versus Super Saiyan 3's horrendous power drain, which means that while we don't know exactly how powerful he is, we can estimate 48 billion to be the upper limit of what the possibilities are.
Which is still a far cry from 120 billion for the one that fought evenly with him. Dai Kaioshin, maybe, depending on just how much power Buu gained from absorbing South Kaioshin; power gains in Dragon Ball tend to be pretty massive, and Buff Buu is explicitly more powerful than Super Buu - although where he ranks compared to Super Buu with Piccolo, Gotenks, and/or Gohan absorbed is hard to say. That Buff Buu was still losing to Dai Kaioshin means he might just be able to claim "1,000x stronger than Frieza" on his resume.
