It'd make sense if there were originally a 'God of Creation' and a 'God of Destruction', and the God of Creation decided being a single being sucked and so created the Kai structure to make things easier, while the God of Destruction... well, destroying things ought to be much easier.

? It's a diagram of the DB universe from one of the recent databooks. Interesting tidbits include the fact that Hell is above the Mortal Realm, and the Supreme Kais' planet is in a little pocket universe that orbits the main one like a moon.
Is there a bigger version of that picture?

◊. Wikia does that for some reason.
What's interesting is that there seem to be only five Kais/Kaios for the whole universe. I had previously though each inhabited galaxy had a set of Kais. Apparently the distinction is actually that the Kais' authority extends only to the Mortal Realms, while the Supreme Kais govern the mortal and spiritual realms.

... What's Maikai?
EDIT: Oh, the Demon Realm. It's location is interesting.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Kinda funny that hell is above Earth. That's usually not the way it works
As for Space Pirates being stronger than Gods, I'm guessing that maybe the Supreme Kais would have gotten stronger themselves with each generation (as is the case for most races) but then Buu roflstomped them, and all that was left was the incompletely trained East Supreme Kai.
I mean, the previous Supreme Kais would pass on their knowledge to their successors later on right? If Old Kai hadn't been sealed in the sword, maybe he would have taught the power increasing ability to his eventual successor if it was possible.
I actually like this theory. If it makes sense, then that means guys like Frieza (and the movie only Bojack) were only just catching up to the former Gods.
Also, the Supreme Kais sans East / Kibito Kai and the Supreme Kai of Time were just filler characters anyway, so they are (at least as they are portrayed in the Anime) as non-canon as Bojack's group (who can officially still exist in canon, since nothing about their appearance contradicts anything about canon).
One Strip! One Strip!I saw it.
Then only North and West are filler. The other two are canon.
I never knew that.

One Strip! One Strip!Though the same guidebook that gave that diagram of the universe gave more information on the Kais' species. They're actually called "Shin-jins" and they aren't gods in the traditional sense of being immortal and omnipotent, they're more alien-slash-angel... things that are native to the Other World. They're born from a magical tree and do eventually die of old age; when a Kai dies, their successor is chosen entirely at random from the other Shin-jins (which probably explains a lot). Every once in a while the tree produces a golden fruit, and the Shin-jin produced from that is much stronger than normal; only these Shin-jin can become Supreme Kais. There's also around fifty Shin-jin at a time who aren't currently holding a Kai position (I'd imagine Kibito is one), which implies that the golden fruit must be really rare since a successor to the four dead Supreme Kais hasn't been chosen in five million years.
Admittedly, that SSJ 2 Gohan was much weaker than the one who wrecked Bojack's shit. In fact, he might very well be only half as strong as he was back then.

himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimari... Huh?
Did they ever say Goku thought about using the Metamorese fusion with Gohan? 'Cuz I can't recall that ever being brought up. The one time he intended to fuse with Gohan was with the Potara, which don't care about that shit.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI can't remember, that's why I'm asking, myself.
I'd have to go back and check the only time he could have possibly said it, which was back when he was teaching the fusion to Goten and Trunks.
