What about shipping Power Levels? Personally, I ship Goku's Power Level with Yamcha's. The vast difference between the two just creates such a wonderful dynamic.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I think the family bond with Grandpa Gohan and Goku was sweet.
I adore Goku's reactions with little Pan at the end of the series.
Vegeta's relationship with his family is. Interesting. That's a good word.
The friendship between Mr. Buu and Hercule is fun and cute.
Basically. I really actually hate the way this series gets boiled down to just being neverending fighting. The fighting is fun, sure. I love a lot of the fight scenes, they're well-done and interesting. But if that's all there was it would be meaningless. There would be nothing worth fighting for.
This series has adventure, and comedy, and character moments with characters that are one-note or simplified in some ways but gain depth through their interactions and relationships with each other.

What you described above is part of the reason why a lot of people should get punched every time they say that there were no important/relevant females in Dragon Ball, becuase the series is not just about trading punches at superspeed.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI do think there should have been more females in the fighting, because that's what most people remember as taking up the series, and because I do think the division of labor was kind of fucked up.
The ways the series treats female characters compared to male characters isn't equal, and not always okay.
...But you are right that the emphasis on fighting from many fans only and often serves to further de-emphasize and diminish what role the female characters do play. And that's even worse.

I agree with all of this.
As an example, given how little actual story presence either character has, it's easy to forget that Dr. Gero was the Big Bad of the Cell Saga, and Future Bulma the Big Good. Everything that happened was a direct consequence of Dr. Gero and Bulma's intellects. Gero put his faith in his androids, Bulma in Saiyan awesomeness.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I do think there should've been females in the fighting, as well.
Both because there's no real reason not to and because I still wanna see a female SSJ. Xenoverse gets close to granting my desires, but it doesn't, not quite at least.
I wish Xenoverse let us choose what SSJ hair looks like, and that it wasn't just a haircolor change.

Well that's Japan and Toriyama.
He says he wouldn't know what a female super saiyan looks like, but considering the casual sexism that permeates Manga, I have my doubts.
Look what happened to 18 in the most recent movie. I desperately looked for some kind of rationalization, but in the end, it's simply she's a girl so stay home and watch the kids.
Hell, recall the very first female fighter in the series Ranfan.
That's the best he could think up for her.
One Strip! One Strip!Fun fact: Way back before the "Z" portion even started, Toriyama gave an interview that fleshed out some of the minor tournament opponents. Among the details was that Ranfan is married. Her husband's name? Trunks.
Krillin should learn the Spirit Bomb (hey, he threw one once. Just needs to learn how to gather one) and use it alongside 18. While everyone else is busy duking it out with Mr. Sir Whoever, the two of them are building a big-enough bomb for whatever needs killing.
Of course, that's assuming 18 can't just cut out the middleman.
I have a message from another time...I think the family interactions of Vegeta, Bulma, Trunks and eventually Bra are one of the most interesting aspects of DBZ that they never explored. I want to see more of inside their household. And not just because of stupiddoomdoodles's tumblr. It's just because it feels like a family that's both very different and very real at the same time.
Like, there are plenty of families with a deadbeat dad and a workaholic mum. The difference here is the dad is also an alien who spends his entire time training, and the mum owns one of the richest companies in the world.
Re: Female Characters - the problem was while some female characters did do something, you also had characters like Chi-Chi, who were seen as HARMFUL to the overall plot.
The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! You're surprised that a series in which explosive frotting saves the universe
has a substantial shipping community?

That's Sean's best non-screamy work, in my opinion. The way he says "THEY CAN'T EVEN DIE" just gets you right in the feelspot.

I don't think that's the part that gets (most) people down on her; it's that a lot of the time she seemed unable or unwilling to understand that anything could be more important that Gohan studying.
Her reaction to Goku sending Gohan to fight Cell or not wanting Goten to fight Buu are completely understandable, less so when she more or less says "Studying is more important than the planet!" which I'm pretty sure she more or less did say at some point.
I think her unwillingness to train Gohan stems more, initially, from Gohan's own unwillingness to train combined with her overprotective nature.
Then, her first introduction to Gohan training was Gohan getting kidnapped by the man who'd tried to murder her husband AFTER he'd murdered her husband succesfully for an entire year.
Her experiences with Gohan and training are not good.

There are times when I vastly prefer shipping to discussion of power levels.
