I get what you mean, but...I feel like a series has different expectations than a movie. You can't carry a series on Goku/Vegeta interactions alone. I'm sure they could try, but it wouldn't be very interesting.
That's why I think they'll at least try to do more.
Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic, but I want to be, damn it! I don't care if I get disappointed! I just want to follow the hype train all the way to the end!

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby! And now, a timeline of future events.
Today: First new Dragonball series in 18 years. Wow! That’s awesome!
Then: First screenshot from new Dragonball series. Some people say it looks amazing. Some people say it’s terrible. It’s done something different. An old character is back in a new way that some people like and some people don’t. A new character is the focus, some people like that and some people don’t.
Then: First trailer from new Dragonball series. Mixed reaction. Seems too modern for some people and incomprehensible to others. Some people say they love it when they don’t, some people say to have faith because “it’s Dragonball.”
Finally: New Dragonball series premieres. A lot of people watch the first few episodes, then ratings fall off. People say it’s not as good as it used to be. Some enjoy it but it goes mostly forgotten in the larger community. The world spins on.
Is this a Jo Jo reference? Can't really carry a series of movies with it either, didn't stop them.
Just because a large portion of the fanbase had grievances with the Goku/Vegeta focus doesn't mean Toei/Toriyama are going to give a shit. Look how many years it took for them to do something with the humans again, and even then it was meaningless and only included half of them.

So, I'm the ONLY one who's excited about this? At all?
...screw it, I'm going to bed.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! That's something I never quite got. Unlike Gohan, Trunks and Goten were obsessed with sparring as kids.
To the very least with Gohan, the seeds were at least planted that he didn't like to fight, so it made sense why he would slack off in times of peace.

Wow, you can just feel the positivity in this thread :V
At the very least, save the cynicism until we get more info. Then by all means.
It turning into the Goku & Vegeta kinda makes sense at this point tho, they're pretty much the only ones who give a damn about getting stronger and throwing themselves head first at whatever comes their way. None of the supporting cast are strong enough to keep up and the ones that are don't care enough to train like they do...Its like I'm reading Naruto...
Look on the bright side, the Vegeta fanboys finally get to see their hero get the importance "he deserves".
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does....screw it, I'm going to bed.
Nope. I also choose cautious optimism. Because I remember Battle of Gods being anything but the Goku and Vegeta show.
I remember a subplot about Emperor Pilaf returning to steal the Dragon Balls and Trunks uncomfortably hitting on an age-reduced Mai. I remember Bulma's birthday party being the setting for a large chunk of the film. I remember Vegeta's Bingo song being prefaced by Gohan's unwitting Great Saiyaman performance.
Battle of Gods was a party both in-universe and out, celebrating the cast both old and new. I don't define a character's quality or relevance solely by who crushes the villain's windpipe in the last five minutes of a story, because there is an awful lot of story outside the last five minutes.
So Goku and Vegeta want to hog the "GET STRONGER, FIGHT DUDES" spotlight? Let them. That's always been their shtick. The other characters are made great by other qualities, and Dragon Ball has never been just about fighting.

OH GREAT! The moron who said that Vegeta was the real hero of Dragonball. SPECTACULAR.
My various fanfics.![]()
"Dragon Ball has never been about just the fighting"
Except when it was, like in Z :V
We don't even really know the general tone this series is going for; Z's constant fighting and Serial Escalation or Dragon Ball's more surreal comedy. Or perhaps a blend of both.
