Like practically everyone not named Vegeta or Piccolo once DBZ started.
Then I bet you're as thrilled as I am that she's returning in the new Frieza movie in a very important role: shaving Krillin's head so that he can fight bad guys.
Yep. The same Son Goku that insisted on keeping Piccolo and Vegeta around because he wanted more challenging fights with them, and agreed to allow the harbingers of the apocalypse to come into existence because he was thrilled at the prospect of battling enemies so powerful he'd already been told they murder everyone. The same Son Goku who was more concerned with making the assault on Babidi's ship into a game than actually preventing Majin Buu's awakening.
Goku's purity of heart marks him as an innocent soul, not an all-benevolent one. He's emotionally honest in his intentions, his actions, and his behavior towards others. He knows who he is and what he wants out of life, and he pursues it relentlessly with zero regard for malice or greed or sound moral judgment, or anything else that would get between him and his will to fight.
Goku's innocence is his greatest strength and his greatest weakness.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Anyone else find it mildly amusing that the thing to push Goku over the edge and made him become a Super Saiyan was not that surprisingly horrifying image of his wife and son crying out to him as they died by Frieza's hand or Frieza threatening to kill his son but Frieza killing his best friend?
Also, while it may not have any basis in canon, I love the idea of Goku and Piccolo being total bros.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Well, the first two are threats of events that haven't actually happened yet. They inspire terror and determination.
The latter is an event that was actually occurring, and thus inspires despair and rage.
Crossing the Despair Event Horizon seems to be a requirement for becoming a Super Saiyan. For Goku, Frieza had survived even the Genki-Dama and had now moved from threatening to kill his friends and family to actually doing it, while Goku was completely and utterly powerless to stop him.

Not too much outta canon, I'd argue Goku and Piccolo are closer to each other than Goku and Vegeta are. But Krillin gets undisputed bro status.
And I'm amused Toriyama's statement about Goku sort of parallels Luffy a bit. In that, just because they do good things that help people out and are innocent to an extent, doesn't mean they're morally upright people in the slightest.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Dragon Ball influenced a lot of later shounen manga? You're talking nonsense.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!- GOKU: One of you will betray me.
- GOHAN: Vegeta?
- PICCOLO: Vegeta.
- VEGETA: Definitely Vegeta.
- GOKU: Then, in three days, I will rise. Seriously, three days. That's how fast I want you to gather the Dragon Balls, 'cause if it takes any longer, Imma be really hungry.

I should probably be insulted by that but I'm not. I'm too busy laughing.
Also, the pre-edit version was funnier.

I wasn't sure whether Vegeta's exuberance was a better gag than the group's certainty.

On everyone.
Dragon Ball is genuinely interesting as a historical document, if nothing else.

I don't think Dragon Ball ever wants to sell you "Goku is the goodest most benevolent being in the universe".
Not when even Goku himself admits that a lot of his motivations are selfish.

I didn't put the entire quote on it. But basically, the beginning is talking about how he's totally pure, but that doesn't mean he's totally righteous. Pure Is Not Good. He has a pure heart, because he's solely focused on getting stronger. It doesn't mean he's the most moral.
Here's the entire context.

The *Legendary* Super Saiyan is motivated by a crying infant! He is a literal giant f***ing baby!
