If people weren't on the Xenoverse hype beforehand, they will be now!
Xenoverse + PS 4 =
By the way has anybody here on the forum played the beta? And if so, can they given any general impression of how the game is a whole? I've already loads of Xenoverse video covering the character customization, super attacks and battle mechanics but obviously seeing how the game plays is greatly different to actually playing the game itself.

Pretty much.
Rescued from the Scrappy Heap it seems. I mean, Korea was the only place with DBO for the longest time.
Yeah, it looks like they decided to remake Dragon Ball Online as a non-MMO. This makes me happy, as I finally decided I wanted to give DBO a try despite avoiding MMO like the plague, only to discover it was dead.
That trailer's narration is REALLY corny. Like, I'm not sure if they're advertising the game or telling me to write fanfiction, with such lovely lines as "Insert yourself!" and "Goku - no, YOU are the hero!"
Despite that, still hyped.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Dragon Ball games have always used extremely fanficcy angles for their original ideas, and DIMPs especially so. It does make a lot of sense though, part of the reason it is so easy to recognise the similarity with fanfics is because there is so much of the similar fanfiction out there. Because those kind of things are pretty popular, catering to that isnt a bad idea at all. It might make for a terrible story but it sure will hook people in.
Sergio M 3, a guy on youtube who hacked Battle of Z's beta to find out it's roster, hacked a bit into the Xenoverse beta to find out some stuff about it's roster and whatnot. He only got text from the hacking, but he's going to hack further when the European beta comes out.
Apparently Oozaru, Jaco, Beerus, Broly, Pan, Super 17, Nuova, Eis and Syn might be in based on a list of ultimates and descriptions he got from hacking. (He doesn't list Jaco, Pan, or Super 17, but their ultimates and descriptions are there) Also, a character named "Demigra."
Here's the vid in question,
but don't look if you want to be spoiled.

I am extremely sceptical of that, but assuming it's true... Add Pan and Whis to the list. Maiden Blast was a move of Pan's in previous games and Symphonic Destruction for Whis.
Right now, my biggest concern is the transformations. That's one area DIMPs have underperformed in in the past, only B3 and Infinite World really did a good job with transformations and they've always been behind Spike on those (except for Tenkaichi 1, which didn't allow for it). I prefer Spike's method of toning down the potency of the transformations so that players can actually have control over them, but at least Budokai 3 managed to have a nice balance. This, though... looks like the transformations will be even harder to maintain in Budokai 1, draining a lot of ki and automatically reverting without even being knocked down. Which is a huge turn off for me.
Some people have said that it's at least more story accurate, but it really isn't. Reverting to base only happens when the user is extremely exhausted and the fight nearly over, but the video games that make it possibly to revert out of your control make it absurdly easy so it will happen several times over the course of a fight. It's not even close to accurate to the story to spend most of your time fighting in base and turn Super Saiyan for brief periods. The Kaio-ken should be the only move like that, and it shouldn't be a transformation either.
I'd rather have control over my transformations, because that's pretty important for the purposes of immersion. Constantly falling out of a form against my will completely kills my immersion in the game.
Even worse, it is being rumoured now (and claimed by that video) that transformations take up Ultimate slots. If we can only have two Ultimates like currently being claimed, that'd be absolutely terrible. Choose between two of either Ultimates or transformations? Goku can't even have all his Super Saiyan forms if he completely gives up the option to use Ultimates! It reminds me of Cyber Connect 2's boneheaded decisions to separate awakenings and ultimate jutsu options for characters. I'm fine with picking between different supers/ultimates but transformations are completely unrelated and shouldn't be made exclusive with them. Also only having a handful of your transformations available is silly.
Then there's also the possibility that characters without temporary transformations won't get to transform at all, like Freeza and Cell. Although we know both Freeza's first and final forms are in the game, it's possible they are in as separate characters but that would really be a big shame and totally needless. Eugh, I hope I'm just wrong. Well I know I'm not wrong about the ki drain and auto de-transform effects.
Here's a thing though, the game is still being worked on. That is what these betas are for, for people like us to respond back to Dimps about these problems. Unlike most other companies, they seem to be listening to us, so I'm sure when the the English beta hits, we can voice these problems to them.
The game ain't coming out for another 5-6 months, so they got plenty of time to change some stuff.
I highly doubt they would change something that big. There are so many parts that would need to be reworked (being temporary, being part of thr ultimate system, no permanent transformations in) that I don't see it happening. Especially since this stuff isnt available to be played in the beta, so they really cant receive feedback for it.
Wait, we're going back to Budokai's transformations?
This makes me a sad dragon.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's mostly just speculation, and rumour, but if true it's going to be significantly worse than Budokai's transformations.
More on that topic, in every video seen so far, portaits dont change when a Saiyan transforms, the portait stays in base. However Cells portait is always his Perfect form, meaning that could be his base like Budokai 2. Of course, it might just be that othervpotraits haven't been created yet.
I was fond of the way Raging Blast 2 had transformations work, but it'd be nice if there were more reason NOT to transform. Perhaps make it so you have to fill up the Ki meter to transform, and doing so drains it. That way you have the choice of either unleashing an Ultimate or transforming, with the latter being better in long-term but the former in short-term.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! How about transformations are permanent (Though characters like the Super Saiyans, Zarbon, and Frieza can "un-transform" as well), cost a large amount of Ki to initiate, and while the transformed state is overall stronger than its previous state, it either takes longer to charge Ki or uses it more quickly. Would that create some semblance of balance?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!![]()
Not really, no. The only transformation that bled energy SO FAST as to be functionally unusable save for short bursts is Super Saiyan 3.
The original Super Saiyan state bleeds energy too, but not at nearly as rapid a pace.

Can't say for sure. We only saw a little bit of Grand Supreme Kai's power, and like we said, Buu was one of the few enemies where just getting stronger didn't work due to absorption and all that.
One Strip! One Strip!

I'm so hype!
