Kale shouldn't be, but she will because there's no point otherwise. Even though this could have been avoided in several ways without needing to make her power level unappealing.

Eh, it's not like Kale is just a walking Broly reference.

She's also a Yandere.

And yeah that's the second thing that irritates me about it. Fuck yanderes.

Kale has to be Blue level because otherwise the scene where she goes full Broly on Goku has no integrity. A beatdown isn't any fun if the person getting beatdown could have stopped it at any time.

An untrained whiny street punk brat forcing him to go Blue and fight seriously would be enough. Even that is straining credibility but it's something I'm willing to concede.

Yeah, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner with that episode. There's no outcome to that fight that would be both a) satisfying, and b) logically sound.

Goku fights Berserker Kale as a SSB and loses —> "BULLSHIT"

Goku fights Berserker Kale as a SSB and wins —> "Well, that was anticlimactic."

Goku fights Berserker Kale as a SSJ or SSJ2 and loses —> "Why didn't he go Blue?"

Goku fights Berserker Kale as a SSJ or SSJ2 and wins —> "Well, that was really anticlimactic."

Changing the subject slightly, but Kale and Caulifla's relationship is also pretty toxic. Caulifla made it clear she thinks Kale is a burden if she can't transform and Kale won't let her talk to anyone else without flipping her shit and trying to murder everyone around her.

Kale was a mistake from the very conception.

Ironically Kale was written to appeal to the mainly Western Broly fanbase (at least, I think it's mainly Western).

[up][up]

I wouldn't think that the concept isn't sound, but Kale's starting personality really felt like it was ticking off checkmarks from some otaku database.

[up]

If that were the case, her base personality would have been more like Caulifla's — aggressive or at the very least not shy. As it was though, the shy chick routine appealed more to locals more than westerners.

I keep hearing that few Japanese fans like Broly, compared to Americans, but is there any evidence of that?

[up][up][up] Well, you need someone for her to be obsessed with, and it can't be Goku because they're from different universes. So they went for the yuri-bait. Ironically it probably makes more sense than Broly's motivation did.

[up][up] I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere, along with him being a source of Japanese Snark Bait towards the Western fanbase. Not 100% sure though.

The Broly movie got two sequels. That seems a pretty good indication he was popular in Japan.

Don't worry Kale. I hate who you are too.

You know, between the two of them, Kale is the only one I hate. Caulifla is just another Saiyan and her performance hasn't been that great either. Goku was basically toying with her.

I don't think Caulifla's a teenager. I think all the U6 Saiyans are young adults. I like Kale because she actually has a character arc, which is more than you can say for most characters in this series.

Krillin, Tien, Piccolo, Gohan, Vegeta, etc would like to have a with you. And I'd say all of their character arcs were executed much better (for the most part).

Krillin had an arc?

I said "most". That means "more than 50%". The remaining 49% or so are composed of the characters who did have arcs.

Then that's a ridiculous standard. You can't honestly expect most characters in anything to have arcs of their own unless the cast is ridiculously small. That Kale had an arc (such as it was) says nothing about it's quality. Having nothing is often better than having something poorly-executed.
