I actually kinda get that Vegeta let Cell power up. Dude's got an ego too heavy for even a Super Saiyan to lift, on top of being one of the most fight-happy characters in the series. Seems logical that he'd want to have an actual challenge fighting Cell. Now, whether that decision itself is logical is an entirely different story, but Vegeta probably didn't give a shit. :P

but HOW?

Oh, no, the decision is totally in-character for Vegeta, that's pretty much without question. It doesn't mean it isn't a stupid decision, though.

Out of curiosity the Nicktoons broadcast for the Dragon Ball Kai uses the Yamamoto score and the Blue-Ray releases uses the re-inserted Kikuchi score, right?

Last time I check Nicktoons do still use the Yamamoto score from episode 1 to 95, however the Blu ray releases for Dragon Ball Z Kai have the Yamamoto score up until the fourth DVD/Blu-ray volume. Of course when the shit hit the fan and Yamamoto got exposed for plagiarism, the 5th American DVD/Blu-ray volume was delayed twice, due to FU Nimation replacing Yamamoto's score with the original Dragon Ball Z background score for the remainder of the English release of Dragon Ball Z Kai, for the DV Ds/Blu-rays (all episodes) and the TV Version (all episodes).

Seriously Kenji Yamamoto, I have lost so much respect for because of what you did. And your scores and insert tracks for Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Z Kai and the video games were so awesome and then you have to ruin your reputation. And sad thing is that plagiarism is so bloody obvious. "The Ebb And The Flow" is hands down the worst offender, its virtually a note for note copy of the track "War" from the soundtrack of Avatar.

Yamamoto, I am disappoint. sad

Yeah I'm disappointed about the plagiarism, especially since I quite adore the score used for Kai. Shame a good chunk of the cues are stolen.

Well, for one, Vegeta's a Saiyan. Everyone should know that he couldn't be trusted to not go for the better fight. It was a massive misstep on his part, but had Krillin actually just shut down 18 and stash her away, Cell would be a distant memory.

[up][up]He's been stealing music long before Kai. He was just outed this time.

It's not as bad as the guy who wrote the score for Onimusha. Warlords has one of the best, most underrated game OS Ts of all time and I was amazed to learn it was made by a guy who was deaf.

Only not really.

So super late rely to previous, but I wanted to add something about the Saiyaman arc's anime adaptation. I used to really love the fact that the anime extended it, and I still do, but I don't like how they extended it. Like Rob I really like how the manga version has Videl figure out Gohan's identity immediately, and the anime completely loses that.

I think making an arc out of that and playing it seriously was the wrong move, and would've preferred if they had handled that the same and inserted the filler after that point instead of stretching the single plot point out.

It's kind of funny how badly they botched the Kai adaptation of that, though.

More Dragon Ball Xenoverse Gameplay

The more I see it the more I'm loving the game! smile

The little details like reverting back to your base when running out of energy, is what I really appreciate about DIMPS. They always focus one the finer details.

I'm so getting this for PS 4. grin

If you're gonna get the game, what platform would you get it on?

Man, Super Buu is short in that opening sequence. He's barely taller than Vegito. Isn't he supposed to be like 8 feet tall?

Anyway, regarding Xenoverse, I only own a Wii U, so sadly I cannot get it. It's probably the only game that interests me that isn't on my console, so it's not worth buying a whole new console for, but it's sorta disappointing.

.....

So how much of a power-up do you think evil characters get from Babidi's Majin Mind control?

Dabura was already the king of the Demon world, and was thus the strongest of his kind already. He then got the power-up, but was apparently implied by Goku and Vegeta to not be much stronger than Cell. This means that despite being the top dog of his world, he was not all that powerful. I might be mis-remembering or misinterpreting things however.

In fact, I'm trying to catalogue all the ways a person can increase their power that aren't biological in nature (the Saiyan's Zenkais)

  • Training;
  • the Sacred Water;
  • both methods of Fusion;
  • The Majin power-up;
  • Elder-Kai's power up ritual;
  • Guru's pulling out of hidden potential.

I think that's all of them. Am I missing anything?

"Not much more powerful than Cell" still makes him incredibly powerful. Cell was significantly stronger than the strongest warrior in our entire universe.

Frieza is the best frame of reference we have for "most powerful warrior in the universe"; for Dabura to be stronger than Cell, who was effectively Frieza, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and all the other strong characters fused together PLUS Androids 17 and 18 stacked inside of him, and then given the arbitrary super power-ramping that Combination Characters get, is quite an accomplishment.

Cell is basically the product of Dr. Gero watching the show and then using the Custom Character Creator to make a character who can do ALL the cool things the cast did. He's Gero's attempt at an in-universe Fix Fic. "Piccolo regenerates? Well, MY character regenerates HARDER! Oh, and transformations, that's cool, my character has two of those! Zenkai? I have no idea what's happening on Namek and don't know that's actually a thing, but it doesn't matter, Saiyan DNA, my character can do those, suck it! Trunks came back in time! MY CHARACTER WILL ALSO BE FROM THE FUTURE!!!"

He's a cobbled together Mary Sue, but he's an in-universe cobbled together Mary Sue written by an in-universe psychotic bastard, which makes him work. The conflict of his arc was finding a way to beat a character who was deliberately created to do everything that ANY of you can do, only better.

That's a pretty good way to look at it.

I just like trying to find ways for characters who would supposedly be outmatched to be on par with stronger characters. Like when I asked before about if getting Babidi's majin power-up would give Bojack's minions a chance against the Supreme Kais (to which the answer was a pretty solid no).

Mostly for potential story purposes....that is, if I ever really get to some of those Fan-fiction ideas that are always in my head.

The thing about Dragon Ball is, you don't really have to work too hard to justify powering up a weaker character. Toriyama handed out massive power increases like candy in the actual plot proper.

Why can Bardock suddenly fight Super Buu? Well, he spent two weeks Gravity Training, then went into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a couple hours, and then unlocked Super Saiyan 3. What, you still don't think that's good enough? Here, Buu kicks his ass, he eats a Senzu, gets a Zenkai that increases his power level by 50 million, happy?

Zarbon shouldn't be able to fight Cell? Pfft. He unlocked his race's second transformation, that puts him WAY above Cell.

Krillin kicks Android 17's ass because he mastered the Kaioken, did a ton of training, had the Old Kai release his power, and got a couple more zenkais because he gets those for some reason.

Yamcha becomes the most powerful warrior in the universe after experimenting with injecting Saiyan DNA into himself, and receiving a zenkai for each fight he has ever lost!

Super Buu with or without Gohan absorbed? Because I'm fairly certain Super Buu with Gohan absorbed is the pretty clear winner there, so much so that trying to compare them wouldn't even be fair.

Actually, before they separated I think it was actually:

Super, Fat, then Kid.

After they separated, it was Super, Kid, then Fat.

I think. I was never clear on if becoming Fat Buu made him weaker or just made him more manageable.

Last time I checked, including absorptions, this is how the Boo's rank, from strongest to weakest:

  • Super Boo (Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks absorbed)
  • Super Boo (Gotenks and Piccolo absorbed)
  • Super Boo (Piccolo, Goten and Trunks absorbed)
  • Kid Boo (Southern Supreme Kai absorbed)
  • Super Boo
  • Kid Boo
  • Evil Boo
  • Majin Boo

Was Fat Buu actually weaker than Pure Buu or was it because of the Kai's influence that he held back a lot of power?

That's a good question.

People kept saying that it seemed like Buu had an endless pool of energy whenever he got serious, and it occurs to me that it might have been his more malevolent nature shaking off the kinder aspects he got from the Dai Kaiou for brief moments.
