I think it may be more to due with his Wolverine Publicity as well as how much his fans tend to wank him. Not that that's unique to Broly alone, but there you go.
Thats what I meant by backlashing against his own popularity. But yea, the amount of attention he gets is rather...ridiculous lol. And then you have things like Dragon Ball Multiverse wanking his power level to dumb levels. But that shit always felt harmless to me.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. You don't need Broly for that. You just need to understand subjectivity, which much of his hatedom seems to struggle with.
That's not quite what he said, he just wasn't impressed by Beerus' appearance. Koyama was always about making the characters look physically powerful, and trying to outdo that with each iteration.

Regardless of how any of us personally feel about it, if it's popular enough then that means it resonated with people regardless of it's shortcomings.
Dragon Ball itself isn't exactly perfect, but it's one of most the known and popular forms of media today. Broly is the same. Even if he is a shit character, obviously that wasn't enough to stop him from being among the most known characters across the fandom.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.People always resent whats popular.
I've seen a common thing is that when for example an anime gets too popular & well-liked you always get those people who ask "how can this be popular when I think it sucks" completely not understanding that people can have different tastes & can like different shit.
They are another brand of annoying fuckers infesting the internet.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That's a mixed bag. Sometimes I can understand the Hype Backlash, sometimes I don't agree.
I try to keep in mind that what is and isn't to my personal tastes doesn't necessarily coincide with quality. It helps with staying away from Hype Backlash, I think.

When people can't stop singing the praises of something, people will naturally try to be contrarian and downplay it's positives while overplaying it's negatives. Its why tropes like Accentuate the Negative exists.
So yea, Hype Backlash is the culprit here. No matter who you are, hearing how amazing something is when you don't care for it will actively cause you to resent and dislike it over time.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I dislike Broly mainly because he gets more exposure than the other movie villains true, but I also think qualitively he's the worst since there's nothing that really sets him apart. Most of them have at least one gimmick that puts them above him.
Lord Slug pulls out the wonderful Namekian tricks like growing large. Turles is an evil version of Goku. Cooler is pretty damn cool (at least in his first appearance). Dr. Wheelo has a really unique design, and so does Hirudegarn. Janemba has really fucking cool powers. Garlick Jr... well, his actual movie is quite decent, and his tiny form looks very classic Dragonball. Beerus is goddamn amazing; if it was the guy who made Broly who bashed him he needs to sit down and take notes because Beerus is way more threatening than Broly ever was while also being super entertaining.
The only one who's as boring as Broly I think is Super Android 13 and he's at least got the hilarious accent in the dub.

"And when the last law was down and the Devil turned round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat?"

I think Broly's moves keep things entertaining enough, though there are obvious lulls in the action and things are too repetitive to last as long as they do.
I think Movie 4 has my favourite dub score. That worked really well IMO.
