I don’t think Toriyama even has that on his radar. If anything, people wanting Vegeta to win would further ensure his failure.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm kind of baffled by Toriyama. If he hates Vegeta, why is he improving him as a person so much and continually pushing him to Goku's level?
I guess it's good that he's not letting his bias interfere with the character's writing, but I'm rather curious why he's intent on lifting him up. GT had Vegeta way below Goku for most of it until he got Super Saiyan 4 at the very end. But it's just kind of strange to me.
I meant more along the lines of why he went from killing tons of people without remorse to "Oh, I guess Kakarrot actually is better than me" over the course of Z. Even in Super, he gets some nice moments here and there when he's not reeing about Goku or muh Saiyan pride.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 30 spoiler pics are out. According to translations:
Toppo: Weren't you on Planet Toure?
Jiren: I took care of the "Osshuretto seijin". That's why I came here.
Dyspo: Did you actually fly all the way here from Planet Toure..? Without a space ship?
Jiren: Yeah. It's a lot faster this way!
Dyspo: You're a hot shot as usual!
Toppo: Let's do a full regroup. I have something to talk about with you guys.
Jiren: Wait! We must first liberate the citizens!
Jiren is actually Superman now.
Jiren having character traits beyond a high power level? What is this heresy?
Seriously, though, will be interesting to see where they go with that.
Vegeta states that he's proud that it took Beerus the Destroyer showing up to do [Vegeta] in. Except for... ...that time when Vegeta blew himself up.
Blowing yourself up before you technically lose the fight is the biggest "You didn't win!" move ever.
Anyway, I'm really glad Jiren is getting actual characterization in the manga. Still sad about what it did to Toppo, but hopefully he'll be back to his old self around his teammates.

A good handfull of them seem to really like Dyspo, though...
Oh, also the full raw of Chapter 30 is out! Goku is now multiversal enemy #1 because of the whole "losing universes are destroyed" rule. Also, Majin Buu is still considered for recruitment in the manga.

When you say you didn't win do you mean the guy who got blown up by the suicide bomber (hence them not winning since the person blowing themselves up killed them both) or the one who blew themselves up (since they had to kill themselves to stop the other dude).
Because the first way describes poor poor Yamcha.
That wasn't Vegeta's intent at the time. He was doing a Heroic Sacrifice.
...which his opponent survived, but still...
Okay, the manga did Jiren better. The anime still did Toppo better, though.
Hoping that Jiren's stoicness in the anime's Tournament of Power is just an overly serious morbid facade he's putting on in response to the insane stakes, and his default personality is closer to the manga's interpretation. I'm imagining him letting out a huge sigh after the tournament is over and all is well, and he immediately goes over to shake Goku's hand and hug Toppo, Dyspo, and Kahseral while tearing up in relief.

We'll see.
That being said, our favourite abridger has his own thoughts on Jiren, among other things:
You know, I do have to admit he's right about Jiren being different from previous antagonists with his No-Nonsense Nemesis Consummate Professional approach to things: he's got a job to do, so he does it. No bragging about how powerful he is or taking time to kick the dog or any of that shit. He's just there to save his universe, and he's not gonna waste time with other shit.
While I do hope that what little we've learned of him from the manga leaks into his current character (maybe it'll be added in some post arc interaction), he, like many things in Super, is very different from what's come before. I at least like that Toriyama is trying some new stuff.
One Strip! One Strip!

Battle of Gods inconsistency #347:
- Vegeta states that he's proud that it took Beerus the Destroyer showing up to do [Vegeta] in.
Except for that time it was a Death Beam through the heart, or that time when Vegeta blew himself up.
