He's a cool dude who seems to hate Dragon Ball and is this weird combo of elitist hick.
My various fanfics.I don't know man. That name doesn't help.
I remember watching a little of that video and then stopping so I can really comment on it.
I know that Tien being an ultra serious guy is mostly his thing, and outside of his fight against Goku and some pretty interesting and unique (but other wise useless like most techniques that aren't Super Saiyan or the Kamehameha) tricks, he doesn't have much going for him, and has become irrelevant, but honestly, he's human.
Of course he's irrelevant. The other characters became irrelevant well before V Egeta arrived as the power scale got bigger and bigger and bigger. That doesn't mean Japan hates Tien. It just means he's no different from anyone else on the show.
I mean, he's on the Tournament of Power team; that's something.
I guess maybe there's some flack since his old voice actor was replaced: I hear Voice Actors are Serious Business in Japan.
One Strip! One Strip!
Personally, I like listening to Plague's mini-series on Dragon Ball (and his art). I may not agree with all his points, but he delivers them coherently enough. He also did a video about power escalation a while back, predating his recent Universe 6 video:
I was gonna annotate it for convenience, but it slipped my mind.

He's a good straight man I suppose.
It's just Piccolo came along and trumped him.
Tried watching that power levels video: some stuff I agreed with, some I didn't (Toriyama had nothing to do with adding the Z suffix), but ultimately, it's too damned long, and I don't want to sit listening to it for half an hour. He's gotta cut the time on that shit.

According to this
he did.
Toriyama: Well, that’s wrong (laughs). “Z” is the last letter in the alphabet, right? So, at the time I already really wanted to end the series, and so I made the title “Z” to say “Hey, this is the end!” I don’t remember saying a single thing about any energy supplement. You really can’t go by rumors (laughs).
Nakatsuru: Did you imagine anything else besides “Z”?
Toriyama: No, I don’t think so. Personally I thought that the title was fine the way it was, but the people on the anime staff said they wanted an image change, so I figured “well, this should be OK”.
X4 and ![]()
Oh. So he was asked was he?
I thought they just did that on their own. Details like that are really hard to keep track of to be honest.

One Strip! One Strip!
I like the video because it helped me better understand how the super modes ave been handled over the years. Doing so allowed me to re-contextualize why I dislike things like Super Saiyan Rage. I'm still not interested in Caulifa and Kale, but that's really just because I can't be interested in characters created to fill up tournament slots. It has nothing to do with them getting scaled up to Super's new high tier of power.
I only got about 8 to 13 minutes in. Like I said too long.
I mean, we always knew that increasing strength has been the primary way to win fights, but I'm irked I didn't realize it was happening as far back as the Tao fight.
I mean, every time someone comes up with a clever strategy or technique, the other guy almost always goes My Kung-Fu Is Stronger Than Yours and no sells via brute strength. It's always been that way, because when it comes down to it, as was said by Roshi, the strongest dude wins.
That dude is the one with the highest ki level.
One Strip! One Strip!I did wind up watching the Tien video, and clip bait title aside, he was just going over the treatment of Tien's role in his recruitment episode and actual tournament compared to Krillin and Roshi's. It definitely had that tinge of "Angry Internet Reviewer" but he wasn't actually bashing the show or Toriyama.

He's not being a mindless hater, if that's your concern. He's just explaining how the issues with Kale and Caulifa stem from Toriyama's Writing by the Seat of Your Pants style.
