Good point.
Well they refuse to do that either, so I guess neither of us will get what we want.
I mean, at this point they aren't good for much but Slice of Life stuff, because they sure as hell can't do much in a fight, no matter how much the series wants to tell us other wise.
Though sometimes, I don't mind them trying. Krillin kicked ass in the tournament before he got cheapshotted, and even if he was doing far better than he had any right to, it was nice to see Roshi as something besides an stupid old percent (that one scene where he scares that one female fighter with Stranger Danger aside).

The problem with that is that then the other guys don't do anything anyway, because the more powerful characters can win in seconds.
Unless you give those weaker guys some broken power to compensate, and that just raises the question of why the weaker guys don't get taken out by it.
Or the stronger guys just counter it with ease anyway.

One Strip! One Strip!Again, dont just try to use the same formula but with scaled down threats, it'll never work
Tenshinhan can have an episode where his dojo's reputation is threatened without the world being at stake
the worst moments of Piccolo's character always came with trying to make him catch up. Babysitter/straight man Piccolo is best.

How would he do that?
His only option is fusion, and unless he's willing to do a little raiding from U6, there are no namekians left for him to fuse with (that are powerful enough, or the same type as him).
One Strip! One Strip!Actually, here's an idea; why not present the cast with problems that can't be solved by sending in Goku and having him punch the bad guy really hard?
When you introduce plots that stray away from the "THIS REALLY STRONG GUY IS HERE AND HE'S GONNA KILL US ALL" formula, the power gap becomes less of an issue.
They all fight the same? News to me. Compare the way Krillin defeated Majora to the way Tien defeated Harmila.

No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!

Well, yeah. The only thing that differentiates them are their different special attacks...which most of them can just steal from others by simply seeing it.
There was potential though: many of them developed special techniques of their own.
Hell, Tien still has the widest variety of unique attacks, but the massive power gap rendered most of them useless (along with some of them having flaws that simply can't be overcome at all).
The attacks having drawbacks is pretty cool, but at the same time, it shrinks the variety of techniques as they are continually abandoned due to being useless.
There's still some potential in some places: like, I've always wondered if you can apply the concept behind Tien's Kikoho to other ki attacks.
Edit: Murasaki'ed.

One Strip! One Strip!
We already kind of saw that in GT during the Super 17 arc. Most of the villains who broke out of hell got shitstomped by the heroes, Nappa among them. (Also, General Blue, Major Metallitron, Android 19, Pui Pui and some saibamen, from what I recall.)

Again, recall the way Krillin defeated Majora. I can't imagine that either Tien or Roshi would think to do that.

No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans!Have them fight poachers for four months.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

There are always ways to do stuff like that, it just takes development which the series isn’t willing to take, while simultaneously wanting to use those characters anyway.
But I’m any case, if the suggestion is A & B plots with Goku & Vegeta on one end and everyone else on the other, the gap between everyone isn’t specifically a problem. The assumption is that the character leading the B plot would be Gohan, so the threat level would still be scaled to him anyway.
