So if Supreme Kai was a mortal he would be Yamcha level? That explains quite a lot.

He was, by his own admission, the weakest by far of his fellow Supreme Kais.

What other supreme kai?

Cause there's only one kai and his attendant for each universe, and it's always been that way...apparently.

I want to talk about the latest Dragon Ball Dissection video posted a few pages ago.

"Look at that. All his Ki is just pouring out of his torso, Oh, no. Wait. Those are just his intestines. I guess Freeza doesn't really need those, does he?" [lol]

[up][up] Maybe Beerus sealing Old Kai away did a number on universe 7s hierarchy? Shin didn't know who Old Kai or Beerus were at first, right? So he probably assumed the Supreme Kai role was always supposed to be split between 4 Skai's with one ruling at the top.

[up] He seemed very fixated on Gokus use of Ki to save Freezas life, it always seemed pretty cut and dry to me. Freeza normally could survive with half his body missing, but only through using energy that he'd spent up trying to kill goku. Still have no idea how goku would know that or how he magically learned how to supply ki booster shots. But the logic of how it would save freezas life made sense to me. Course I was a bit distracted by how stupid it was that goku would let freeza live after all he did, so maybe I just accepted that Goku COULD save Freeza in the heat of debating if he SHOULD save Freeza.

I remember getting into an argument with him on this before.

Somehow he refused to connect Freeza's race being hard to kill with Freeza being able to survive those injuries. Nope, all Goku's ki. That's why everyone walks around completely fine while maimed as long as they have ki.

I mean, earlier during the fight with Frieza, Krillin and Gohan transferred most of their ki to Piccolo.

Which I think is also something that guy complained about, but honestly it seems like a pretty weak one to me. I have no problem believing they could transfer their ki to others as an application of control and what not.

Though we don't really know much about the general population of Frieza's people. Frieza and his family are members of a super-strong, super-evil genetic mutant offshoot of their race, so they're far from standard.

Granted there's a difference between "being hard to kill," and "being able to survive getting cut in half, blasted into the core of an exploding planet, and sent drifting the cosmos for weeks while unconscious, all on a small amount of borrowed energy."

[up]Most of which he likely spent trying to kill Freeza. Actually in a funny way the abrdged version of things makes a bit more sense "Darn it Freezer now I have to give you more!".

Yeah, it's really weird that Frieza finds himself begging Goku for aid when he survives burning up a great deal of the energy Goku gave him, getting blasted by Goku's retaliating shot, and then having the planet blow up beneath him. While still bleeding out from the torso.

I guess Frieza just never tested his durability to that extent before. Makes more sense than Ginyu not understanding his Body Swap, at least.

The funny part is that the explosion seemingly didn't do much damage to Freeza, Goku's blast is what took off the left half of his body.

[up][up][up] Well Ginyu might have only ever swapped bodies with warriors with innate genetic powers, Martial art techniques are ironically an alien concept to aliens of universe 7. Plus the kaioken would never have been seen in the world of the living until Goku got revived.

Ginyu mentions he knows how to do the ki-raising trick, though, so he seemed to have some understanding of that. Not being able to use Kaioken is understandable, though.

He was starting to figure it out however. With enough time, he'd have pulled it off.

And yeah, while I rather like Mistare and agree with some of what he says, he did seem to be deliberately misunderstanding Freeza's particular genetic quirks.

Then again, outside of Freeza mentioning his ability to survive in the vacuum of space, was there ever any sign that he could tank being cut in half before it actually happened? I could kinda get how that seems weird.

Well, like Mistare says, the fight with Frieza is rather clean. There's no real serious injury to him before that point beyond a part of his tail getting cut off. Twice.

I'm pretty sure when I was a kid, I figured that Frieza was just too OP to even be significantly injured.

I vividly remember, when I was a kid, thinking Frieza would remain the villain of the entire show. I was aware of Cell, Buu, and other later characters due to their action figures being released Stateside before the episodes they were in were actually dubbed, but I just thought they'd be later henchmen of Frieza.

[up][up] I think I kindof thought something similiar when Cell was revealed to have the DNA of Frieza. Like "oh so this is basically a way for frieza to be a threat from beyond the grave." his perfect form kindof felt like frieza was the most important part of his DNA.

DB was my jam as a kid. I recall how much I loved the Ginyu Force, how I was grossed out by Cell turning people into raisins and Dr. Wheelo's giant disgusting brain, how I Squee'd when Krillin and 18 finally hooked up...

...if the '90s had never ended, that wouldn't have been so bad, would it?

When I saw a keychain for Janemba, I didn't know what the fuck he was. I thought he was like... Inside-Out Cell or something. And I saw an action figure for Super Android 13 that my asshole troll older brother told me was Super Saiyan 6.
