I want an filler episode where U7 is in some sort of competition where Telekinesis would be overpowered. Chiaotzu shows up, Krillin asks him where Tenshinhan and Yamcha are, and Chiaotzu says that he left them behind because he didn't think they could keep up here.

Chiaotzu and Launch need their own filler episode where they force Akira Toriyama to acknowledge their existence.

Chaozu played his role just fine. He had a fun match with Kuririn, his cheating helped Ten become disillusioned with Tsuru Sennin, and he was an extra warm body whenever a massacre was needed.

Then he disappeared when he had nothing to offer like a good character should.

Apparently in the manga, the God of Destruction who beat Beerus in an arm-wrestling match who has a mortal in their universe stronger than them is... Quitela. That's right: the mortal stronger than Beerus is from Universe 4.

Is it one of the bugs? Mona? An ancient criminal too dangerous to recruit for the Tournament of Power who was sealed away, lest their immense and evil power be released, who is obviously going to be released just in time to be the main villain of the next arc?

My money's on the last one.

Don't jump to conclussions.

Or rather, don't pounce into them by polevaulting. For fuck's sake, you are making up stuff and betting it will be the case.

I got the impression that it was Quintela from the anime too, ever since the episode where it was mentioned.

Like, the episode in question also revolved around Quintela (and his rivalry with Beerus) and it all but cut to him after Whis mentioned the arm-wrestling match.

Maybe I'm misremembering?

[up][up][up] FUCKING CALLED IT!

Even if the mortal isn't from his universe, I fucking knew Quitela was the one who beat Beerus.

It's pretty obvious Nigrisshi was never actually their strongest guy now, even if you could say he was the toughest cyborg Maji Kayo is clearly better.

And I don't think Paparoni is controlling the cyborg guys on his team is he? They've been shown emoting to things, and talking too. Unless he's just doing a ventriloquist act when they're fighting someone, but why?

Manga speculation I wasn't expecting the bugs to be super powerful since their strategy appears to be "hide underground and lay bombs everywhere". Maybe its one of the other two?

Chaozu played his role just fine. He had a fun match with Kuririn, his cheating helped Ten become disillusioned with Tsuru Sennin, and he was an extra warm body whenever a massacre was needed.

This is true. The fight with Krillin was kinda fun.

Then he disappeared when he had nothing to offer like a good character should.

Well, what constitutes a good character varies. You have to put effort into them first, which Toriyama absolutely failed to do past Chiaotzu's initial appearance...but like many other characters, he kept showing up. Why did he hang around (even if it was to a lesser extent than others since even Toriyama fails to care about Chiaotzu) if he was never going to do anything again?

Oh right, to be an extra warm body for when everyone got slaughtered. How nice. Even his deaths seem like afterthoughts, barely getting any attention outside of how they affect Tien / Tenshihan.

If that's how you were going to use him Toriyama, then he should have just fucked off and gone with the Crane Sennin.

I agree with Saiga on Chiatzu with his fight against Krillin. I'm on the Dragon Ball manga #11 and his character comes of as "meh" to me.

Then WHY did he stick around?

I mean, what did his original death even add to the story? Roshi's alone held far more pathos, as had Krillin's. It seemed like Chiaotzu died just because Toriyama was all like well, he's got nothing else to do here.

If Chiaotzu had no further purpose in the story, then he should not have still been in the story.

[up] No offense, but there are some characters that are treated as "gag" characters. I don't hate them, but I don't necessarily care for them either.

For one, it made fight with Nappa all the more brutal and helpless when he blew himself up to no effect, especially with how tien reacted.

And really that was the best way to drop him out of the story - by showing why he doesn't come to fights anymore instead of just quietly sweeping him under the rug and hoping no one will ask any questions.

Really Rob, you are making way too much fuss over something innocuous.

I mean, do you go into a story expecting every character to have the same level of prominence or that things won't ever shift away from some to others?

It's not a very compelling complaint, I think.

[up]

Well, I don't think Chiaotzu was meant to be a Gag character though.

But I suppose it's pointless to complain about it.

I should probably comment on the Quitella / Beerus thing. I suppose him being the one who beat him in Arm Wrestling makes sense. It explains why Beerus seems so taken aback by him, and why Quitella seems to flat out enjoy needling him.

To be fair, this is prominent in shows like Bleach, Code Geass (however you spell it), Naruto, Yu-Yu Hakasho...it isn't just DB/Z.

Bleach suffered for it tho, what with months after months where story grinded down to a halt while every single side character was getting multi chapter fights.

Also Naruto is totally not an example, people totally complained that some characters were getting ignored, especially the rookies.

[up][up]I didn't mention that as a complaint, it's completely natural that focus and prominence shifts from side characters to side characters, usually with the focus on the main character being pretty constant.

I'm sorry, but having there be a God of Destruction who beat Beerus in an arm-wrestling match but not an actual fight is an immensely specific detail and it's only relevant as far as this "mortal stronger than their Hakaishin" goes. With such blatant foreshadowing, there's no way that the mortal in question isn't going to be important at some point in the future.

If it's Quitela in the manga, it's going to be Quitela in the anime too. There's not going to be a difference as huge as "the home universe of this obvious key player in the future" between mediums.

Well we know the Gods of Destruction cannot fight each other directly anyway since that erodes all matter around them and risks exploding the universe (see Beerus vs Champa back before the U6/U7 Tournament). So them just arm wrestling as a contest makes some sense.

Presumably they could have a brief match on the Tournament of Power stage because they were in the "World of Nothing" and it can't be damaged because there's nothing there to damage.

LSBK Since: Sep, 2014
#64350: Sep 19th 2017 at 10:29:02 AM

If this is true then that means Universe 4's strongest warrior just isn't participating?

I wonder if there's a good explanation for that or if it's just going to be "Not my problem." like a disturbingly high number of people seem to have felt.
