Tien a failure? He's running a large dojo, clearly making a decent living and passing on his techniques and philosophies even as he trains. I'd say he's succeeding at life more than most of the cast. He'll never be the strongest fighter, but that isn't the only measure of a man's worth.
I'm not even a real fan of his, but people are being silly.

I consider that good sportsmanship.
Its only fitting for Tien to give Goku a good meal in exchange for giving him a good fight.

Yamcha is also a baseball star & Krillen is a successful cop so Goku & Vegeta are kinda failures, heh.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Getting back to the spoilers, the idea that Ribrianne is a candidate for God of Destruction is really interesting, and indicates some cool things about her role in the tournament. Obviously it's not confirmed, but what other options are there for becoming a goddess after the tournament?
Only Shin-jin (the 'jin' is to distinguish the species from the individual) can become Kaio or Kaioshin, and the single planet Kami is such an insignificant position that we've literally never seen a Kami of any planet aside from Earth. Maybe it's metaphorical, but why would winning the tournament be an obstacle than?
It's confusing to me, the dub may have influenced it with how they translated Boo's lines about why he absorbed Piccolo (he didn't praise his intelligence in the manga).
But even Super referenced the idea, so I have no idea where it started. He comes up with strategies about as often as everyone else, and most of his fail miserably. And he's also the guy who says something dumb so he can be corrected by Goku or Gohan (so the audience can be reminded of stuff).
I think it's just like viewing the humans as Weak, but Skilled - it's not present in the original, but fans are looking for a niche to make the characters look good, and they pick up tropes that are common in other media - it's common for weaker characters to be smarter, more skilled or be The Heart to compensate.
To be fair, those strategies fail more due to the plot then anything else. Like many characters, Piccolo does things so that he can fail and show how dire the situation is. That's not really his fault so much as it is the way the plot is going. I guess no one is quite what we thought they were in this series.
One Strip! One Strip!

Geez guys, give Tien a break, he already has to live with being a worthless failure for the rest of his life.
