Considering what the Multi-Form actually does, I can't help but think that if Tenshinhan just went at it whole and at full strength he would have been able to catch the guy anyway, and probably wouldn't have been eliminated.
As far as coming up with reasons to use the characters iconic moves despite their obvious downsides, this wasn't satisfactory.
I thought it made sense. Tenshinhan wouldn't have been able to dodge or tank the sniper beams by himself anyways, so he split himself up to make sure at least one of him got there.
Also, if the ending theory is true, than the order of eliminations is Krillin, Tenshinhan, Vegeta, 18, 17, Piccolo, Roshi, Freeza, Goku, then Gohan. I don't see Roshi lasting that long.
That's only assuming he'd actually get him. Which I don't buy, the clones being hit liked that seemed more for tension than anything else really. And also they just got back up at then so...
But, yeah, focusing so much on Gohan and Piccolo at the beginning really did seem pointless considering they contributed nothing to actually taking the two down. Even Tenshinhan's "contribution" feels more as just a pity bone thrown to him than anything actually meaningful.

I recall he was using the same strategy for the Multiform back when he had his re-match with Goku (though the extra bodies were supposed to be a plus, it's just that he was taking on Goku, so it ended up being useless).
As for Tien fanboys celebrating vs saying he got shafted, I suppose you could see it either way. I'll just more thoroughly after I watch the episode.
Edit: Pretty much

One Strip! One Strip!Krillin took out three guys!
Two as assists, and one directly.
Tien only stopped one dude. So how exactly did he do better?
One Strip! One Strip!I swear to god, if I didn't actually like Tien...
...but I'm not letting dudes like that ruin him for him. Hating a character to spite their fans is one of the worst reasons to hate a character.
I'll be watching the ep soon myself.
One Strip! One Strip!

Looks like next episode is Maji Kayo vs Dyspo and Jiren, and Vegeta and Roshi vs Magetta and Frost. Looks like I called it about Maji Kayo being U3's strongest fighter.
This episode was good, Tenshinhan went out like a boss, and Dr Rota getting eliminated without getting to show off was humorously anticlimactic. Both U2 enemies also had pretty neat gimmicks, though I question the naturalness of Hermila's sniper arms.
