They are treating it seriously, Goku shot a death glare at the Daishinkan and Gohan had a somber moment when looking at the locket. Universe 9's destruction wasn't gotten over quickly, they dedicated an entire half an episode just to the characters processing it. Just because there's more lighthearted moments in the arc doesn't mean the serious and damatic parts aren't treated with the weight they deserve.
What, do you want the whole arc to be nothing but everyone being serious and fighting and falling into clinical depression every time a universe is eliminated? This is Dragon Ball, those kinds of expectations are unrealistic and would be unfitting for the series' overall tone.
They treat it seriously for a few moments, then go back to acting as if nothing is at stake. That was Very Melon's point, and I thought they explained it well. Honestly, it's been a problem since before the tournament actually started.

Well, it seemed like they might have been gearing up for a story about "Goku going too far" or something, but if so they abandoned that and seem to desperately want to sweep any implications that this is his fault under the rug. I don't totally blame him for this, and even I think that's going too far.

After checking, I realize that I exaggerated just a little bit: they dedicate 5 minutes to watching everyone process. Remove 3 and a half minutes for the intro/recap, and they dedicated almost a third of an 18 minute long episode just to watching everyone react in horror at a universe being destroyed.
This too.

Seriously, you guys hit the nail on the head. There is a lot of disconnect between what we are being old and what we are being shown.

"Mai waifu."Usually I'm not a the biggest fan of full-length intros because it sometimes feels like the normal intro, just repeated with different lyrics and with no proper escalation. Limit Break X Survivor is different. They do repeat the same notes but it's not exactly the same and they do build the extended ending up much more than the midpoint, making it worth it. It's super good.
For the English Dub of The Universe 6 Tournament Arc, Funimation
has released some characters bios and some voice recasting. Notably, Hit's gonna make sure you know what time his donuts are coming.
Daman Mills, Chris Ayers's understudy, is voicing Monaka.

Well, this is Akira subvert the audience's expectations Toriyama.
He had Goku lose the World's Martial Arts Tournament twice (if only barely both times) before finally letting him win, and has pulled some other tricks—come to think of it, what other times has he done the opposite of what we'd expect to happen?—a few times.
So I'm sure the possibility of Goku getting eliminated is on the table. Look at his fight with Hit. We all wondered if Goku was going to pull off the win or get beat, and instead, he just eliminated himself because he couldn't make the fight better (and Beerus wasted too much time arguing with Champa).
In fact, Goku's runs in tournaments are pretty atypical. Loses twice at the very end, doesn't even compete in the next one he joins, etc.
Anyway, unless there's another surprise we'd get hit with, I'd assume that Goku getting knocked out is a possibility.
One Strip! One Strip!Goku didn't defeat Zamasu, gave up against Hit, got cheap-shoted fighting Freeza after which he only managed a kill steal with help, lost to Beerus, only beat Boo as a part of team effort, and gave up against Cell. Last time he had a honest solid victory at the end of an arc was on fucking Namek.
At this point Goku actually winning the damn thing would be the most unexpected outcome of all.
...
Huh. I do remember it being pointed out that Goku never actually beat anyone (one on one) in Z, beside Frieza (who still survived) and Yakon (light eating monster).
...Does Toriyama even realize he's given his own hero such a poor win loss record for so long? It's especially funny since the plot consistently treats him as the very last hope and the only one who can save then day...since he has been failing to fully save the day for a while now.
One Strip! One Strip!

Well, the last arc had an actual villain. That's a factor.
But yea, the whole universe destruction thing just feels superfluous
