The point I was making is
even the top brass Saiyans were nowhere near Frieza's main guys and that Goku, Vegeta and their sons are very unique cases.
Goku is unique due to originally being based on Sun Wukong, to start with....
AKA, the guy who beat up the other gods for shits and giggles and needed to be sealed underneath a mountain from Buddha himself...
Watch Symphogear@Afro Warrior: You're gonna watch all the Z filler? .... That's a lot of filler.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]![]()

Watching the "ENTIRE" DB series(DB, Z, GT, the OV As, the Movies)is a LOT more draining than just sitting through DBZ alone and I've done it more than once.

I think you can do it, its won't be as long if you marathon it in chunks.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Whatever flaws Dragon Ball had, and that filler played a big role in that, unlike Bleach, it actually managed to finish its run properly without overtaking the manga.
Filler or not, in this current market of anime that make up their own endings, that's a big accomplishment.
One Strip! One Strip!The Money...
Seems the producing studio would rather have the show continuing through "filler" than just having their staff break the show into seasons...and wait for the next few Manga volumes come out, so they can continue the Anime without much chance of catching up to it.
"Waiting" = Less ratings = Less Profit...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Honestly, looking back, as far as the amount of filler there was in Dragon Ball Z, in comparison to other Shonen Anime, there really isn't the mountain load of filler that people often assume there is in Dragon Ball Z. Granted there are a lot of Inaction Sequences. I mean, I often marathon Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai (Man I'm such a Dragon Ball nerd
) occasionally on the weekends, and as far as what I experienced, the Canon/Filler percentage ratio was about:
- 75% Canon/25% Filler - Dragon Ball
- 60% Canon/40% Filler - Dragon Ball Z
- 90% Canon/10% Filler - Dragon Ball Z Kai
Most filler for Shonen Amine is pretty bad on average, with the exception of One Piece, which has some great filler arcs. However, the padding of the episodes can get downright diabolical at times, worst than anything Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z has ever done. In my opinion, while Dragon Ball Z will probably go down as the most infamous case of anime filler, it's nowhere near the worst. That honour undoubtedly goes to Naruto. Good God! 80 episodes of pure filler with no canon material whatsoever... back to back. That marathon of filler was responsible for Toonami getting axed, ever since then I have grown to dispise filler arcs of any anime. Which is probably the main reason, I never got into to Bleach when it first aired and have a love/hate relationship with Naruto Shippuden.
Handsome Rob made a great point about how Dragon Ball(Z) actually managed to finished it's anime without overtaking the manga and for a long running shonen anime/manga, that is one hell of an accomplishment. Hell, Rurouni Kenshin and Bleach got cancelled because of it's filler arcs. And Naruto... *shudders*
My advice Afro Warrior 27, when you marathon Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, appreciate the good filler the anime provides:
- Goku and Chi Chi's wedding (Awwwwwwwwwwww...)
- All of the Z fighters helping Gohan defeat Cell while remembering how Goku and Gohan influenced their lives (Such a poignant and epic moment)
- The Other World Tournament Arc (Funny and entertaining)
- Z-Fighters vs Saiyans in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber (The other Z Fighters doing something important)
- Krillin vs. Imperfect Cell (one of Krillin's greatest moments)
- Goku vs. Vegeta in the Buu Arc (One of the rare cases where filler increased the quality of a fight)
- Great Saiyaman (That shit was hilarious)
- Any filler of Gohan in the Saiyan Arc (Great character development)
- Z Fighters vs. Ginyu Force on King Kai's Planet (The other Z Fighters doing something important)
- Goku and Vegeta's hijinks inside Buu's body (So Bad, It's Good)
- Goku and Piccolo Learn to Drive (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)
But have every right to piss all over the shitty filler the shows give you:
- Pretty much everything Bulma does on Namek (The worst thing about that is that most of the "filler" also happens in the manga!)
- Any episode that had Maron in it (What an annoying, stupid cock tease she was)
- Anything to do with Snake Way (That shit was ridiculous and not in the good way)
- Garlic Jr Arc (Ugh...)
- The Planet Arlia episodes (Ugh...)
- Fake Namek (UGH!!)

The only filler I couldn't really stand (well now, since as a kid I thought all of it was good) was the fake Namek one, I mean we were already aware that it would never have been that easy for them to get the Dragon Balls, since it never is, and add to the fact that only two "Namekians" even met them when they got there, that should have already told us that something was wrong. Instead there extend this for like four episodes before we finally get to the actual planet. Plus, I think they showed us in the first episode of that arc that they weren't even Namekians, though I might be wrong on that one.

Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Ugh...Fake Namek. Right behind Garlic Jr. in terms of the most annoying waste of time in the entire show. Even Snake Way was more interesting to me.
The Other World Tournament was pretty good though. Same with Gohan learning to fend for himself during the Saiyan Saga. I missed having those arcs when Kai came out.
The Fake Namek Arc is hands the worst excuse of filler in the history of the Dragon Ball franchise. Seriously, what the fuck was that shit all about!? I remember watching those episodes as a kid and thinking, "Will somebody get those idiots off the planet and get them to the real Namek already!?"

@ the Filler thing: Contrary to popular internet belief, Naruto filler did not kill Toonami. It was steadily going downhill when all the other anime shows were removed. It's very hard to support a block with just Naruto, and it suffered even more because of that. So really, it was the executive meddling that killed Toonami.

I really can't remember what episodes correspond to what of the anime, sorry. All I know is that movie 1 has to take place before episode 1 of Z (and even then has problems) and after whatever the final episode of DB is numbered and that the Saiyan arc ends at episode 35, where I suggest to watch movies 2, 3 and 4.
