Which brings me to an interesting point: Whis says that there's a mortal out there who's stronger than their Universe's God of Destruction. He neglects to mention which universe, but also says that this particular Hakaishin is stronger than Beerus. Beerus apparently knows exactly who Whis is talking about, and mentions that they only beat him in an arm-wrestling match.
To summarize: Whis knows that there's a mortal out there stronger than their God of Destruction, who is also stronger than Beerus, but not which universe they're from. Beerus knows exactly which God of Destruction it is, which means that he knows the universe in question. The gods are dicking with us and withholding information.
Episode 97:
- Are Goku and Vegeta fighting back-to-back using their same poses from their original fight? Oh f'ck the hell yes.
- I am sincerely enjoying Frieza's presence in this tournament. I would have liked to see Buu but seeing Frieza in action again is too much fun. Ideally Cell and Buu would've gotten in on this too but seeing Frieza be a little out of his element (fighting in a tournament) but still acting like an unrepentant Jerkass is something to behold.
- I'm getting a little sick of the Zen-Oh's and their reactions.
- I suspect the Grand Priest is going to reveal that he was BS'ing everyone because he wanted them to take it seriously, so that the tournament would be more exciting for Zen-Oh.
- Dragonball's never done a battle royal before. In fact I don't know of a shonen anime that has. The animation might not be the best - bunch of explosions, reused animation, characters getting knocked out - but that's pretty much how a real everyone-vs-everyone would go. Lots of chaos, taking out the opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible, and the weaklings getting knocked out first. It's weirdly entertaining.
- I'm kind of bored with Trio de Dangers. They were alright for the preliminary rounds but I wanted to see more of Universe 6.
- Universe 9's Supreme Kai won the Large Ham lottery. His universe shall not go hungry assuming they survive this tournament.
- Barriers have returned as a fighting tactic. Nice.
- See I'll give the manga this. It makes sense that Goku and Vegeta wouldn't automatically go Blue if it cuts their powers down on a second go. Here, Goku went Blue to break free and just... stopped for some reason.
- That purple cat lady thinks Vegeta is handsome. Vegeta is being hit on by a purple cat lady from another dimension.
- This is a big freaking ring. And what happened to people not being able to fly because I'm almost certain Vegeta, Lavender, and purple cat lady were gliding for a while there.
- Oh, Lavender got slashed.
- Vegeta: -punches Hyssop and Oregano- THE SAIYANS ARE A TRUE WARRIOR RACE. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE US.
- That one move Goku does when he snatches Bergamo's tail and shoots him in the back. Nice. And quite possibly the most evil thing I've ever seen Goku do in the middle of a fight short of flicking Beerus's forehead.
- Holy crap that whole sequence was nice.
The way he double-taps Basil right after is just
.
- Holy crap that whole sequence was nice.
- Final Flash Kamehameha. It's finally happened.
- Oh ... shit. Well that's that then. Nevermind to Zeno bluffing. Wait, so then, he really is erasing everything. But see, the Grand Priest is the one that brought it up. Zen-Oh did it, sure, but then we focus on the Grand Priest before Goku and Vegeta look at him. This is all on the Grand Priest.
- I suppose Universe 9 still won't technically be going hungry.
- Vegeta just lost his chance with purple cat lady.
- I guess these credits are even more important now, reminding us just how much our heroes have to lose.
- Oh boy, a Krillin and 18 episode next week. Yay.
I've seen the ending sequence make a number of people jump on the theory that the tournament is going to be interrupted or losers just get sent to a "recycling bin" dimensional plane rather than being erased from existence outright since the wrecked tournament stage is seen lying on that rocky landscape (most obvious in that aerial shot of the sunrise near the end, where if you look you can see the curve of the edge and the specks of Goku and Gohan standing next to each other with the rest of the team behind them). I personally think that's reading a bit much into things, personally.

My Megaman and MegaTen RPG LiveblogsThey wiped out an entire timeline for keeps last arc, so I can honestly expect the destroyed universes to be gone permanently. I feel that even if the Super Dragonballs are strong enough to undo Zen'os wishes, he'd just re-destroy them and probably the guy who wished for it as well. However I also think a fair amount of universes will survive
My theory is that by the 48 minute mark, the Zen'o will decide to Pet the Dog and give the losing universes a couple days to prepare for the end and say goodbye to their families. The wish from the Super Dragonballs will be "I wish the universes that were in the tournament safely combine into one", resulting in a super-universe which has an average mortal level higher than 7 and thus exempt from Zen'o destroying them. Now that would be a smart usage of those balls
True, but the transformation on its own drains huge amounts of stamina, so the most efficient way to use it is to wait until you have to, transform once, and stay in Blue from then on.
Or at least, that's what Goku said back in the U6-U7 Tournament. Wouldn't be the first time Toriyama was inconsistent.

Now the question is, do we trust them to do the logical thing?
I mean, remember Piccolo wishing himself to Namek, thereby putting their efforts to restore the balls in jeopardy?
Remember Goku and Vegeta refusing to just hunt down Gero and kill him (or at least stop him) before he could build the Androids?
And again for Goku and Vegeta, refusing the Fusion earrings a second time, despite the fact that it would have let them kill Buu with ease?
Or actively choosing to not summon Gohan and instead come up with a far more complicated plan?
Logic and Dragonball do not go together when it comes to the direction they want the plot to go in.
One Strip! One Strip!Unless the form is less efficient between power increase & energy drain than Super Saiyan 3, this doesn't work. Even regular Super Saiyan was flat out always a better option than fighting in base, because even with the energy drain the power difference is too great.
Blue should be a big enough deal that it makes up for the stamina problems, especially because anyone that he can even remotely challenge as a base Saiyan can be easily swept away in Blue.
Staying in base and prolonging the fight (as well as taking damage he doesn't have to a risking a ring out) is more exhausting than one-shotting all the fodder and moving on.
It's inconsistent with how transformations are used in the manga, and inconsistent with how powerful Blue was shown to be previously.
Dragon Ball Super is inconsistent? No way!
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Oh shit, check out what I found:

Frieza merchandise. How awesome is that?
Or is it Toei, Lol consistency!
Lets be sure we're going after the right people here.
One Strip! One Strip!

Depends on what the form actually means. I like the idea of it just being using Super Saiyan to access the power of Super Saiyan God (also, no blue hair), after achieving an Ultimate-like state where Super Saiyan was no longer needed to draw out a Saiyan's own dormant power (to build off something previously established).
Saiyan Beyond God and Super Saiyan Beyond God, however the latter would just be referred to as Super Saiyan because it really is just Super Saiyan 1 used for a different purpose, and the old method of transformation wouldn't be used by Goku and Vegeta (so no confusion when they're talking about it in-universe).
