[up] In Goku's case blame Chi-Chi for that. Its always Chi-Chi's fault cause she is a nigh constant ballbuster who looks upon sports & anything not in the intellectual filed as something for barbarians & considers it to be completely useless in getting a job.

Don't know what's Vegeta's excuse considering how chill Bulma is. He's just an ass then.

It doesn't seem that sad...

These new Saiya-jins are willing to learn, so it makes sense.

[up][up] But Goku has shown that he can and will defy Chi Chi if it's something he really wants to do something. He's simply not as interested in training his sons unless they go up to him and ask. But they don't.

Self reinforcement. Goten and Trunks are useless, but they'll never grow out of it because no one wants to end their uselessness.

Then his children are to be frank disappointments.

I don't know what to say.

[up] Goten does show interest in training but he always gets shot down by whatever force is there.

In universe there is no reason to see them as useless even with no improvement from their Boo arc selves. It's really frustrating.

It seems they just don't want to do anything with Goten and Trunks in this series.

Its irking, but what can you do.

Its sad Goku & Goten don't get many father-son moments much.

Compared to Superman who is really nailing it in the dad department, hanging out with his son & teaching him life lessons & shit.

If nothing else you'd think that Goten and Trunks would be interested just to get closer to their dads; we know that's something they care about.

And I feel like Vegeta would force Trunks to train anyway because of SAIYAN PRIDE!

It's just extremely jarring that they have absolutely no interest in their children, and I know it's mostly because Super prioritizes what's "cool" and "popular" over any potentially interesting story developments.

Really makes you wonder why Toriyama even bothered making Goten and Kid Trunks to begin with if he had no interest in developing them in any meaningful way.

Well, it would be weird for there to be a future Trunks if there was no Trunks in the main timeline.

I wonder if Toriyama apparently liking subverting expectations is the only reason Bulma and Vegeta even happened.

Yeah Goku & Vegeta don't even feel like dads most of the time.

They are just so disconnected from their families.

Though honestly, I'm actually a bit surprised Goten and Trunks haven't gotten Super's artificial spotlight like some others. Do people just hate Goten and kid Trunks? Are they not popular in Japan?

Super in general operates under the assumption that everything past the Namek arc sucked and just kind of ignored it. I'm greatly surprised they even allowed 17 and 18 a spot and not Yamcha and Chaotzu.

They might be too recent. While the Boo arc wasn't unpopular, the height of DB's popularity was from the Freeza - Android arcs.

Just like Majin Boo, I think they missed out on the nostalgia train.

Also, Super doesn't seem to mind giving them screentime, it just seems to have a serious problem remembering that they are actually really strong. Which could be the fanon osmosis that permeates Super.

Nobody takes Yamcha seriously, and nobody cares about Chiaoutzu.

As for 17 and 18, I'd assume if there was anything about the Cell Saga that would stick, it'd be them.

A lot of people never liked Goten and Trunk's strength to begin with, so I guess it's not that hard to image why Super would downplay it.

Which is silly, since they're barely younger than Cell Games Gohan and closer to the weaker Boo arc Gohan in power.

Like when you compare them to Gohan their strength doesn't stick out as much as it is made out, except that they didn't need RoSaT training to get there.

I guess the fact that they look so much smaller (and younger) than CG Gohan is what colours people's perceptions of what they should be.

Well the difference between Goten/Trunks and Gohan is that we've seen Gohan's power grow through multiple arcs of hardship, while Gote/nks just have that power for no reason. That's why Gohan is much easier to accept.
