I'm not faulting Trunks at all. I'm pointing out how inaccurate it is to say that he won when he failed.
And I don't think there can be adequate build up for his sword. It's so illogical and ill-fitting that more time spent on it would just make a plot tumour of it.
Yeah, exactly. It's very out of place.

True. Trunks using his Ki to replace the blade on his regular sword, and then using the energy of everyone on the planet to create a super blade isn't something we've ever seen out of the series.
Then again, hardly anyone in DBZ fights with weapons (and even in DB, the only one ever worth a damn was Goku's Nyoibo) so no one has ever tried it before.
I might like it because it reminds me of Kuwabara's Spirit / Dimension Sword.
One Strip! One Strip!Fighting with weapons is already very un-DB because we've seen that they're not very effective
Fighting with Super weapons made of ki and strengthened by everyone's hope is incredibly un-DB and the reason why we don't see people try is because it's not-DB
I like stuff like online talking about Goten/Trunks developing techniques to channel ki into weaponry but that would feel quite jarring in the main series

There's just something about it, I can't place my finger on it- God.
Its like, its like, its like- fuck I can't properly explain it, shit.
Its like.... uhhhhh something out of SAO or something like that I guess. (shrugs)
At least when the Spirit Bomb its used, its after everyone is told to give up their energy instead of it being a random moment with most of the party unaware of what's going on.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."@Rob: I'd just like to remind you that Future Trunks is about 30 years old during that saga. Calling him "kid" is rather inaccurate.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! It's different in use...
But more less memorable...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Trunks channeling his ki into his sword was fine. It was nice to have more ki based moves besides generic energy waves for once and it didn't feel too out of place.
Trunks suddenly being able to use the Spirit Bomb, and channeling it into his sword while prattling on about hope is when it got ridiculous.
Wouldn't have been too bad with proper execution, but then it still feels pretty out of place in Dragon Ball. In this sense, I prefer the manga since while it's not as thematically satisfying...still Feels very much like Dragon Ball.
But yea, Super is flawed...very flawed.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I'm pretty sure the Genki Dama thing is just fanon that everyone quickly adopted because it's the only thing that makes even the smallest amount of sense in that scenario.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I dislike Trunks having his sword back in the first place after it stopped being used in the manga once it broke. It's clearly there for the iconic factor than anything else.
Him having the Z Sword in his flashback was sensible and a better way to fit the iconic image. He didn't need a new one after that.
But then that would need to break to release Old Kai.
They never fixed the original Z sword either.
I guess that, outside of the Nyoibo, Toriyama just isn't a weapons guy. That's the only one that was ever useful in the long term.
Why did Trunks even have a sword anyway? Was it just to make him look cool?
One Strip! One Strip! Thanks to Inverse Law of Utility and Lethality, that does less to differentiate him and more to limit him. The sword doesn't change his fighting style in a meaningful way, anyhow. It'd take really diving into the concept of channeling ki into weapons, giving it its own advantages and disadvantages to make something of it.
I agree with that. I wish him having a sword had had more of a point.
Perhaps he thought having a weapon would give him an edge in fights with the androids somehow.
T'is a shame Power Levels rule everything in this series.
One Strip! One Strip!

The law of the universe said Zamasu is immortal.
Destroying Zamasu's unstable body doesn't make that rule go away, but destroying the universe that decrees that rule does.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
